If we're counting Shakespeare adaptations, then far and away the best is Kurosawa's Ran
If not: Magnificent Seven (remake of Seven Samurai) The Ten Commandments (remake of The Ten Commandments) |
The Thing

if he liked the book better then maybe
also gotta give you points for saying the thing sometimes i forget its a remake |
TCM, night of the living dead, and Dawn of the dead
|
Dawn of the Dead, I also liked the tv version of the Shining. It was much closer to the book though I must say the altered Hollywood version scared me a hell of a lot more as a little kid...of course there was that massive age differance...

The remake for TCM sucked terribly.
I'm not a huge fan of the remake, only because I think its a classic for a reason and there's no way to make a classic better, and the harder they try, the worse it gets. But I have to say the Dawn of the Dead remake wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. The Grudge really wasn't that bad either, but they still both pale in comparison to the originals. God, that TCM remake was hideous crap. |
Horror remake ... John Carpenters "The Thing"
Non Horror ... "Fistfull of dollars" ... great remake of Kurosawa's "Yojimbo" ... The TCM remake was pretty lame stuff IMO |
i really didnt mind the TCM that much .. i didnt bother comparing it to the origional .. that wouldnt make sense .. you cant recreate that kind of atmosphere today .. so i just looked at it as another modern horror movie and really liked it for what it was worth..
(until the end - the 'news footage of the cop going into the basement) that was the only time they really tried to emulate the origional... and it was a mistake |
Dawn Of The Dead
The Thing The only thing that saved the TCM remake for me was R. Lee Ermey playing the sherrif, He cracked me up... Though I think the movie wasn't that great...Nothing can compare to the original or the insanity that was Jim Siedow for that matter. |
yeah i thought the sherrif was mint !

yeah, Last House is more or less a remake of Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Spring. If you ever find a copy, I highly recommend it, it's a great movie.

i liked for remakes
night of the living dead (just as good as original) TCM (wasnt really a "remake" but a "retelling" much like TCM 3 and the god awful fourth one) the thing (this movie is so awsome, some of the greatest special effects of our time, damn its good.) |
House on Haunted Hill
Dawn of the Dead TCM The Thing Definately not The Shining though. I didn't even watch it all.....ABC SUX! |
