Favourite remake

Probably done before but anyway in the age of recycled movie ideas and versions that people find they can improve on,whats your favourite remake?

KRUGERKID13 11-06-2004 06:18 PM

salems lot

The STE 11-06-2004 06:27 PM

If we're counting Shakespeare adaptations, then far and away the best is Kurosawa's Ran

If not:
Magnificent Seven (remake of Seven Samurai)
The Ten Commandments (remake of The Ten Commandments)

FilthyCannibal 11-06-2004 08:44 PM

The Thing

MichaelMyers 11-06-2004 08:50 PM

if he liked the book better then maybe

also gotta give you points for saying the thing sometimes i forget its a remake

Demonic Faces 11-06-2004 10:53 PM

TCM, night of the living dead, and Dawn of the dead

Dawn of the Dead, I also liked the tv version of the Shining. It was much closer to the book though I must say the altered Hollywood version scared me a hell of a lot more as a little kid...of course there was that massive age differance...

The remake for TCM sucked terribly.

I'm not a huge fan of the remake, only because I think its a classic for a reason and there's no way to make a classic better, and the harder they try, the worse it gets.

But I have to say the Dawn of the Dead remake wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. The Grudge really wasn't that bad either, but they still both pale in comparison to the originals.

God, that TCM remake was hideous crap.

Horror remake ... John Carpenters "The Thing"

Non Horror ... "Fistfull of dollars" ... great remake of Kurosawa's "Yojimbo"

... The TCM remake was pretty lame stuff IMO

urgeok 11-07-2004 06:19 AM

i really didnt mind the TCM that much .. i didnt bother comparing it to the origional .. that wouldnt make sense .. you cant recreate that kind of atmosphere today .. so i just looked at it as another modern horror movie and really liked it for what it was worth..
(until the end - the 'news footage of the cop going into the basement) that was the only time they really tried to emulate the origional... and it was a mistake

kpropain 11-07-2004 07:52 AM

Dawn Of The Dead
The Thing

The only thing that saved the TCM remake for me was R. Lee Ermey playing the sherrif, He cracked me up... Though I think the movie wasn't that great...Nothing can compare to the original or the insanity that was Jim Siedow for that matter.

urgeok 11-07-2004 08:00 AM

yeah i thought the sherrif was mint !

well last house is basically a remake of the virgin spring.

The STE 11-07-2004 11:26 PM

yeah, Last House is more or less a remake of Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Spring. If you ever find a copy, I highly recommend it, it's a great movie.

IDrinkYourBlood 11-14-2004 10:05 PM

i liked for remakes
night of the living dead (just as good as original)
TCM (wasnt really a "remake" but a "retelling" much like TCM 3 and the god awful fourth one)
the thing (this movie is so awsome, some of the greatest special effects of our time, damn its good.)

horror_spooky 11-15-2004 05:31 PM

House on Haunted Hill
Dawn of the Dead
TCM
The Thing

Definately not The Shining though. I didn't even watch it all.....ABC SUX!
