Hallowe'en sequels
Recently saw Hallowe'en 3 on tv, after hearing about it a while ago - basically, it has nothing to do with the story of the original, or indeed Mike Myers him/itself, and as such was slated by fans of the series. I personally thought it was the best of the sequels I've seen (in a cheesy, B-movie-ish way), but what do you think? Do horror sequels have to be closely related to their originals, or should they be more about loosely-related new stories? What's your favourite Hallowe'en sequel.

IMO if your going to do a remake you need to do it with the original director's consent and approval to deter those that are just trying to make a quick buck by throwing together trash. A sequel should not change in tone from the first or try and change the story in any drastic way; if you don't want to do this than don't make a sequel, come up with something entirely original.

its called a sequal for a reason its supposed to follow up the one before it and halloween 3 did not i do think its a good movie in its own right but not as a halloween sequal

At last - sense!
Season of the Witch is a top horror movie, but for some inexplicable reason many folk dismiss it out of hand because it has nothing to do with Michael Myers. If viewers can get over this fact, and understand John Carpenter (who produced Halloween 3) was not trying to rip Myers fans off in selling them a dud under a marketable name (like many Italian movies are notorious for), then perhaps the film can be re-evaluated and appreciated for what it is... rather than for what is anticipated. Some horror franchise fans obviously command strict rules for each new instalment... but it all sounds awfully restrictive to me, and if one different movie comes along that upsets the neat DVD boxset up on their shelves then all the better. |
I've always liked season of the witch ...
But wasnt there one Halloween where Michael wasnt the killer .. (you kept seeing a black pointed toe boot ... and it was never explained who the guy was.) I havent seen it in a long time so I might be mixing it up with the Friday the 13th series where one of them (besides #1) had no Jason...just some loser copycat. |
season of the witch was ok, its not the greatest but its a good way to kill 1hr and 30 minutes
|
my fav sequal is number 2

i heard somewhere that the makers of halloween had an idea to release a new sequel every halloween with an entirely different storyline. but because fans were so outraged by SOTW they brought myers back.

3 is gay im mean killer masks, buttons and commercals how lame is that... i count 1 and 2 as the same movie cause it starts right after each other
|
Hmmm... yes- in light of this new evidence, Halloween 3 is clearly a homosexual movie.
Then again, doesn't Michael Myers brandish his knife rather like an erect penis? And what about all that heavy breathing? And all this while he's wearing a sweaty Bill Shatner mask??? Whoa! |

meyers is 100% bisexual ... like Elton John.
He'll stick it into men or women alike .. an equal opportunity killer ! |
I love those black pumps he's wearing in Halloween 5.
|
thats the real reason he wears a mask ..
he made a mess out of his eyebrows in a plucking frenzy and he's waiting for them to grow back. All that killin' messes up his lip gloss too. |
That'll be why he stabbed his sister- he wanted her out of the way so he could try on her bras.

Halloween XII - The Curse of Michelle Meyers

I watched 1 and half of 2 last night. I was watching and talking on the phone lol but can anyone tell me aside from him knowing his sister did it, why he turned the way he did? I mean is that it? He thought she was a harrlott (sp?) and needed to die? Being he was so young did he known about sex?
Gawd i need to know there is some deep seeded meaning to his turing crazy. |
Halloween 3 = Shitiest Sequel.....of all time......in the history.......of the world.
(Thats my computer version of James Lipton) |

I dont think he turned crazy .. he was always crazy. The embodiment of evil as Mr Plesence would say. I think he just decided to get with the killing that night. Well, it worked for the movie anyway :) |

i actually liked H3 after yrs of hating it
But yes sequels should stay with the main attraction i mean i didnt start to like myers and then have another movie have nothing to do with him i love how sequels get worse and worse it makes my fan bas keep going and shut the hell up myers isnt gay even if he was hes still a badass |

Again, it's strange how folk place the "odd-one-out"-ness of Halloween 3 above actual critique of the film itself. |
I dont look at #3 as a sequel ....
I do critique it as a film on its own ... I really dont have a great explaination as to why i like it .. its 'one of those things' I saw it when it came out ... If i saw it today I'd probably be making comparrisons and wouldnt like it as much .. maybe its a nostalgia thing for me. |
yeah fucking right myers will never be had. name a series thats good all the way through u couldnt

Then I'd get my pal Real Leatherface to saw the puff in half. |
if i was standing next to Michael Myers then i would be terrified because it would mean the the entire fabric of my univers has broken down and i would have become either completely insane (seeing fictional characters in real life) or I would have to admit that the paranormal exists which goes against everything i have ever believed in.
But i think i'm safe in saying that the guy really doesnt exist other than as a stuntman in a mask. In which case if i was standing beside him I'd politely ask for an autograph and maybe a picture together where he was pretending to kill me. |

Watching Halloween 2 for the first time in ages again, I noticed how haphazard this series is.
- Laurie Strode is revealed as another sister of Michael's, "sent away" by Mr & Mrs Myers after Michael killed his first sister - She survives Halloween 2, while Dr Loomis is clearly no more after the huge explosion in the hospital. Michael, too, is seen burning to a crisp at the end - flames even roaring from the eye-sockets of his mask - After the (welcome) plot detour of Season of the Witch, Mike is back - a little crispy, but otherwise intact (!). Dr Loomis also returns with a few scars to show for his engulfment in flames. But Laurie has been killed in a car crash with her husband, leaving her daughter to be pursued this time around - Loomis eventually carks it (they had no choice this time, since Donald Pleasance died), but, Laurie is back - her death apparently "faked". On top of these contrived plot developments - the desperate moves of greedy franchise producers of course - Michael has been shot, sliced and diced to ridiculous levels. Up 'till the end of Halloween 2 we could just about buy a semi-indestructiable monster of a human being... but what are we up to now, number 9? ...aren't you lot starting to feel a little patronised by having this same bogeyman repackaged and resold to you time and time again? |
