Favorite Vampire... 'Style'
 

I didn't know how to word this thread. Anywho, what vampire style do you like the most? The classic older vampire films that showed Vampires (mainly Dracula) as gentlemen. Not pure blood-sucking monsters who have a blood lust like a damn leech are my favorite. Today all the vampires our blood crazed. All they do is bathe in blood and shit. I like the classic vampire much more. Just wanted to know all of ya'll's thoughts about the subject.

..character wise the classic "lugosi style" vampires dominate.and one would reason that if you had eternity to walk the earth you'd be quite the charming and very well educated immortal.thus your prey or "victims" if you will...would quite literally just surrender to you.the whole vicous attack method just seems inditcative of werewolves or some "lesser"creature.

Interesting question.
 

I kinda like 'em a little different from picture to picture, I guess. For example, I like Chris Lee's Dracula in "Horror of Dracula," very polite, even friendly when you first meet him, and then nasty as anything when he discovers you're trying to give him the stake. Something very pleasurable about that.

And then there's another favorite, the big bad vampire in Tsui Hark's "Vampire Hunters," which is totally devoid of humanity, it's more like a floating blood magnet from hell that can suck your veins dry without even touching you. That version was cool because the vampire felt very dangerous--the kind of thing that if you heard it was anywhere NEAR the area you were in, you would just drop whatever you were doing and get very, very far away. Or farther if possible.

Classic "older", I guess.

my fav vampires would have to be the vamires from saloms lot. were they are just blood firsty wild animals. but with a more intelligent uber vamp in charge. a great mix.but the older style vamps are also cool imho. i guess all vamp movies are ok, as long as they dont try and seduce their victims first or carry guns.

Anne Rice made Vampires WEAK...She gave them feelings (yuck)...love, guilt, remorse, eternal torment...Vampires aren't SUPPOSED to have souls...Fuck that shit...

John Carpenter and Quentin Tarrentino know that Vampires are MONSTERS...Bloodthirsty...Callous...Brutal...Evil. ..Soulless...They know REAL Vampires:cool:

anyway i like the very wise intelligent charming vampire......can be a wretched decrepid old man or a gemtelman if he chooses.....he can be a werewolf or control your mind......i think that vampires are supposed to be wicked but NOT mindless..........i think that they should be able to call their victims from miles away.....seduce them and make them see whatever they want to see.........if your an immortal why not.........noble to some extent but completely dark and bereft of any human guilt or weakness........

Lugosi was too reserved. Christopher Lee was much better. But give me Max Schreck's character Graf Orlok in Nosferatu any day.


Of course....the space vampires in "Lifeforce" weren't bad.:)

I agree with Bloodrayne on the Anne Rice style of vamps. She completely ruined the vampire-genre (caused a bunch of freaks to start running about claiming to be vampires because that was the only way they could pick up a chick (who was equally the freak).

But I don't like the bloodthirsty monstrosities that are the recent vampires. They're just not as scary as the classic Stoker-style vampire. If you think about it, the vampire's good looks and charm are a necessary componenet for his survival. He must be accepted by humanity if he is going to hunt, otherwise he will just make himself known as a monster and be constantly hunted. His charm not only deters suspicion, but also aids him in attracting prey (like a cobra, who mesmerizes its victims before striking.) Besides, with this type of vampire, you get the feel that it could be real ... as opposed to some beasts running about slaughtering everything in sight.

Jerry Dandridge, in Fright Night, was the perfect vampire for my tastes.

My favorite is Christopher Lee. He comes across as a sophisticated, polite gentleman with a lonely type of charm able to seduce his victims with just a stare. But don't let a first impression fool you, when it's time to strike he is a deadly, cold-blooded, soulless blood sucker!!!!! Beautiful isn't it??????

Older vampires are awesome. But then again some of the new ones are alright. I dont like Blade though.......but Bloodrayne......:D

I like the Near Dark Vampires

Anne Rice is the closest to an ideal vampire for me.... Sexy, sultry, intelligent, cunning ... nice clothes, nice digs..

Yeah but ... they have a conscience, for chrissake. Don't give me some weepy, crybaby vampire ... sheesh. I mean, you can DO it, but leave that shit on Lifetime so I won't be tricked into watching it.

In my opinion, it ceases to be a horror movie when you not only sympathize with the evil ... but also fall in love with it. Then it just becomes some teenage romance rip-off.

I dont like what tarantino (and Robert Rodriguez) did to vampires. they turned them into zombies with wings. Big deal that they suck blood and turn into bats. everyone has a super-soaker filled with holy water. And what kind of threat are they when you can put a blunt fucking stake through their sternum with a rough shove?

I'd like to see a vamp movie made with the ones from Blade II, where they hunt other vampires. Interesting concept, and hella hard to kill. Just keep Snipes out of it though, bad mofo in real life he may be, but Count Blackula he is NOT!

Another show that turns killing one of the toughest forms of undead around into a commonplace event. One of the things i loved in Dog Soldiers was that they were up against werewolves, and bullets hurt them and pissed them off, but didnt klill them.

If they made Dusk til Dawn with werewolves, everyone would just happen to have a belt of silver-bullets on their waist, and they would be able to put a silver spoon through a werewolve's skull....:rolleyes:

but gary oldman in bram stokers.. holy fuckin siht!! thats what blew me away about van helsing, the dude tried sooo hard to be just like oldman. i mean he did alright but come on!

anyway appearance wise i thought that both van hellsing/bram stokers bitches were pretty cool. although van hellsing ones were much too over done (elaborate costumes, acting and such). i like the chicks kinda slutty, sultry, that type of shit. also like the dark, mysterious kind. I do like the feelings actually in a vampire, dont care for the bloodthirsty monster (seems more like werewolf to me). maybe they dont have soul i dunno, but its not likeu can really define one either. are u born with it? or do u get it evenetualy or what.. i think its more interesting to have a range of creatures, bloodthirsty to coniving etc etc.. i think vamps fit the bill.

Romantic vampires suck (Pun intended) and I really hate the S&M techno clubbing Vampires that have been a staple of the genre of late!
