Yes, LEATHERFACE is somewhat underappreciated (certainly in the UK, where it was unavailable for many years - and only recently released fully uncut).
The night-time setting makes for a nice atmosphere after the daylight in TCM, and the new family are sadistic enough to lift this way above the kind of trash released in 1990. Also, TCM4: THE NEXT GENERATION has lots more going for it than its detractors allow - again there is an unsettling air about the family, and the "terror" that defines TCM movies is present and correct throughout. Granted, the film is more-or-less a remake of the original, but is far superior to the recent "re-imagining" (or whatever) and it's fun to see stars Matthew McCaughtney and Rene Zellweger conspiciously omit any reference to it from their now glossy filmographies. TCM2 was a bit strange though, with none of the above qualities apart from the rather nasty hammer attack... and the saving grace of nutty Dennis Hopper. |
tottaly forgot about the hammer attack that was brutal
|
since theres talk about tcm2 ill break out my old choptop avy
|
The first 3 installments are good. The 4th would've needed a little work. The 5th worked for me but there was something missing : no dinner at the table, no calibalism.
|
TCM5?

I think he must mean the remake....because theres only 4 I havnt seen any of the sequels, or the remake....but the original was very good. I loved Grandpa! Ive seen the trailer for TCM 3: Leatherface....It looks like a fucking comedy! And a bad one at that... |
oh i spose 5 but u cant really call it 5 as its just a remake
|
which the remake is awesome gave ol Leather a good look
|
yes, but the remake brought in too many teeny boppers who thought leatherface's name was chainsaw massacre, and it's just.... stupid football players..... dammit....

Im not dissin comedys!!! Dont think that! Comedys are definatly the 2nd best kind of movie there is! All I was saying was that TCM 3 shouldnt be a comedy, it should be a full out horor film. |

"QUOTE" you insulted tcm3 its actually a good horror movie especially the ken foree-leatherface fight |
i liked the third one. I like all of them except the fourth one.

The 4th in the series, Next Generation/Return to the Texas Chain Saw Massacre, is definately a movie in serious need of re-evaluation.
Renee Zellwegger made another pre-fame indie movie in 1994, True Romance-inspired Love & a .45 (with Jeffrey Combs in a great, drugged-out role), which is also well worth tracking down. |
