sex in horror movies?
Who here thinks sex should be in horror movies...me n my friend is takin a poll on it... hit me up wit sum opinions...
skrapz:confused: |
Sex is a staple of the genre. If it doesn't fit in the film I don't think they should throw it in there. Like in Cabin Fever, the first sex scene was fine. But the next one (where they knew about the virus) was pointless and dumb as hell on their parts. Otherwise, I'm all for it.

I'd have to agree with avenger....

Sex is absolutely fine in all genres of film, its a natural thing so to leave it out would be completely upto the director and the writers.
However since sex isn't the main denotation of the film then it shouldn't be over done. Although I do remember a good kill in Friday The 13th Part 9: Jason Goes To Hell, when some teens (as usual) were having sex and Jason killed them...very good, indeed. |
yeah if it fits in the film then put it in, if it doesnt then dont..
|
I`ve also started a thread on this in the past, PEOPLE needs to look at old threads ..... QUIT starting new threads without reading all of them... :D

depends, if it's really graphic and nasty (i.e rape, or just something overly kinky) then no. but, like many b4 me have said, if it fits into the story line then its ok. if it's just to get a bigger audience, then it's pointless.
|
Sometimes. I like it in stuff like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, but I think it's overdone in other films (like "I spit on your grave") .

I agree with everybody that said it should only be in if it fits in with the story. I also agree with avenger.

On my own...
I guess I'm all alone here because I personally cannot stand it when they put sex in horror movies!!! When I was a kid, I loved horror movies...many kids love horror movies and you can't let them watch them because of the stupid NUDITY!!! I don't think sex is EVER necessary in a "HORROR" movie...I, for one, have NEVER been scared by a boob or an ass...If I want to see sex in a movie, I will watch a porno (which I wouldn't)...When I watch a horror movie, I want to see blood, guts, gore and HORROR!!! If Stephen King can keep it clean, so can everyone else...Remember to think about the HORROR LOVING KIDS!!!

im pretty aganst sex in all movies, its usually done so badly. you wouldnt want "acting" in a porno vid would you?
|
good point neverborn. I think it should be in only if it fits in with the story like I said earlier. I myself think that parents shouldn't get mad if a kid sees somebody naked. two reasons. 1)it's nature and 2)if it's the same gender then wats the problem? the kid sees it everyday. wasn't there a time when everybody ran around naked and nobody minded it? yes there was. the sex is something kids at the age of at least 13 should be able to see because 1)there gonna learn it in school and 2)there gonna do it in life sometime soon.

I think there is something fundamentally funny about anyone who gets some kind of "charge" out of watching someone else have sex.
While it might fit into the context of the story to have two people intimate with each other, there is almost never any reason whatsoever to devote several minutes to a scene of it; any half-decent director should be able to convey the idea without showing any suggestive body parts. A lot of horror moviesthese days are aimed at younger teens, especially young men, who have this hormone thing going on and will pay the big bucks for even a corny horror movie if they know they'll get to see some bimbo in her drawers. It's pure fantasyland. If you have a good enough HORROR story, you don't need to pump it up with sleazy cheescake just to increase the paying audience. :o |
I don't belive I can think of a scenario in which gratuitous nudity is absolutly neccessary in a horror movie. After all, it's not really scary is it?

I agree with avanger and freddyfan

personally i think its pointless to have it in any movie (horror, comedy, action, etc.) except porn, its not scary, its not usually funny so whats the point? and i agree with bloodrayne if stephen king can keep it clean than i think everyone else could to, his movies get along pretty good w/o all the ass and boobs you would see in most horror movies. you dont need sex to make money. i think horror movies would be scarrier and better if the directors would focus on the scary shit and not on the sex. but if you can make it fit the type of movie (i.e. make it funny or scarry) than throw it in, but it mostly takes away from the movie in any genre if u ask me.

I agree with teenagezombie, it takes away from the real story if you have too much, especially a really over-the-top sex scene in any movie, unless of course it's a movie ABOUT sex (and again, why are people so taken up with that??).
If it's really graphic, (such as Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thorton in "Monsters Ball"), then you might get so focused on the sexual aspect that you don't get properly engrossed in the STORY itself. I thought that movie rather sucked, but then I realized I didn't really focus on what the story was about, I was to distracted/disgusted by that scene. When the movie ended, I found myself thinking "What, what? What happened?" Someone told me later what the story was and I realized it was probably better than I gave it credit for. |
I think sex can be an integral part to setting up the suspense and atmosphere of a film.
You only have to look at "last house on the left" or "strawdogs" to see this and se how effectively this works. However sex is used in 90% of films just to make a $, sex is a powerful marketing and money making tool so directors use it to either gain more hype or promotion or to just get some extras bums in seats. |
