Favorite horror characters

List your favorite characters from any realm of horror and why . ("I just think he is cool" is acceptable)

special thanks to zwoti for reminding me what the point of this borard was. Especially so close to halloween)

For me:

I love Cooper, Sgt Wells and Spooney from Dog Soldiers. Maybe they dont have the most sophisticated dialogue in the world, but they are godamn entertaining.

Cooper is the typical caring strong guy. I love White Knight type characters because that is always how i have seen myself.

Wells is the good, well Sarge character.

Spooney...Well, Spoon single Handedly kicks a werewolf's ass. If its buddy hadnt shown up, he would have kept kicking its ass. I always loved the part where they decide they need something "loud and fast". Everyone looks at spoon, and he says "What? You what?" hehe, classic.

I also love Ripley from the Alien series (she was even cool in Ressurection, which doesnt count....) Hell, i named my pet rat Ripley. She is the ultimate kick-ass female lead, and she never went nuts like sarah conner.

Always loved the Space Marine from Doom. hell, I like the guy from Quake too. Those games still scare the piss outta me.

I like most of theprotagonists from Lovecraft's stories. Read a couple that are set in the back country... that guy really didnt like rednecks....

Speaking of Spoon, what the hell happened to our beloved Ds_Spoon?

-------------------------
Freddy and Micheal are slashers, not characters, so they don't counts, so...

Nancy from A Nightmare on Elm Street. She is one brave ass bitch.

Clarice Starling from Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. The 'relationship' bond she shares with the good doctor is just... interesting.

The chick from Resident Evil. See kicked some serious zombie ass.

That one guy who said 'I kill for the lord!' or something like that. I can't remember anything right now. To shit-faced.

Theres more but I'm too tired to keep typing.

Vodstok 09-24-2004 05:28 AM

The preist from Dead Alive:

"Its okay, son. I kick ass for the Lord!"

newb 09-24-2004 08:38 AM

Some memorable characters in horror for me would be.

Renfield--Dracula 1931--Dwight Frye

Larry Talbot--The Wolfman 1941--Lon Chaney Jr.

Ed Harley--Pumpkinhead 1989--Lance Henricksen [ My son was the same age at the time of this release so I could relate to his anguish ]

Ash--Evil Dead 2 & Army of Darkness--Bruce Campbell [ I thought his acting in the first one kinda sucked ]

thats it for now...lunch is over....why do we have to work for a living?

Oh...and it would be ashame if we lost zwoti.

massacre man 09-24-2004 10:22 AM

Cooper looked out for sam, he called for him before he got attacked by ryan at the end. he also risked his carreer to save a dog in the beginning... you got cooper all wrong.

I got that extra post you had in here vod...

Vampenguin 09-24-2004 12:26 PM

Ah, now this is my kind of topic, my favourite part of movies is usually the charcters...

Frederick Loren(1959)/Stephen Price (1999) House on Haunted Hill, they are definatly my favourites. Vincent Price close to the top of his game, and the best Ive ever seen Geoffery Rush. Just the nature of the character, and the dark comedy....Amazing characters.

I gotta go, Ill post some more later

ummm

Patrick Bateman from American Psycho- The most quotable horror character of all time. AMAZING acting.

Tony Todd (the mortician) in FD and FD2- He just rocks my face off at everything.

Jamie Kennedys character in Scream- He just so effing funny.

Vampenguin 09-24-2004 04:47 PM

John Doe, Se7en. Very awesome, but he wouldnt have been naerly as good had anyone but Spacey playd him. His beliefs, his....skills for torture...Just terrifying

Vampenguin 09-24-2004 04:56 PM

Dr. Anton Phibes, The Abominable Dr. Phibes. "Nine killed you, nine shall die........nine eterities in doom". One of the creepiest, most memorable lines in the history of film. Simply the nature of this twisted Doc, his bussiness only attidutwe while carrying out his murders, his percision....His sheer grace.

Greatest character ever alluded too, but never actually made an appearance in a story (outside of 2nd hand accounts):

Cthulu

Really?

HP Lovecraft wrote a ton of stories involving ancient alien gods, and Cthulu is the biggest and baddest of them all.

Plus Gary Klar played a tremendous role in that film as well.

I also liked all the 50's guys from Dead Alive.

The Abominable Dr. Phibes.

Frankensteins Monster

Still waiting for the game.

98% of the movies "based" on lovecrafts work SUCK. It slike Dean Koontz movies. They suck and blow with equal intensity.

Dagon was awful. I have been reluctant to see Reanimator or The Beyond (think thats what it is called....) because they are not even very closely based on the stories they take the title from (although reanimator is a classic... i will catch it someday....)

Hell, Dagon had absolutely NOTHING to do with the story, it was actually a bastardised version of "The Shadow over Innsmouth". it was set in a spanish town, rather than new england (which is blasphemy), and they "cleverly" called the town "Imboca"(sp?). Boca being spanish for mouth.....

Turds.....

Anywho, back on topic... I always liked Shub-Niggurath.. Another God of lovecraft's that i dont think ever makes a personal appearance.... it might though....
