LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH (1971). Slow, but very creepy film dealing with insanity and vampires. Even the daylight is unsettling. ***

madman-1982 Haven't seen in probably 20 years but remembered pretty much all of it-love love the campy low budget horrors of the past

"Mirror Mirror" 2/10

A total waste of time.

If you're a big fan of Oculus I would still advise you to avoid this crap.

"Witchboard" 7/10

For an 80s b-horror movie it contained surprisingly decent acting from the 3 lead actors. Also had one evil looking male ghost, but sadly he wasn't shown enough.

horcrux2007 12-17-2014 05:28 PM

Guess the "biggest fan of Oculus" is referring to me because I'm pretty sure I am the biggest fan of that movie on the planet ::big grin::

You might be right about that. 😁

The Wicker Man

The ending completely turned the movie around for me because I was somewhat bored in quite a few scenes in the first hour. The ending was so shocking and memorable. Other than that, the movie is very disturbing, unsettling, and perverse. I definitely need to watch this one again. One of the best films I've ever seen.

MADMAN 1982

Just watched this tonight! Did you recognize Gaylen Ross from Dawn of the Dead (1978)? For some reason she went under the name "Alexis Dubin". A true -to-form 80's slasher. Loved it.

The one I posted in the contemporary thread is the remake. The one I posted here is the original. I own the remake on DVD, which I've seen twice, and I'm buying the original on DVD soon, which I've seen once.

ANTHROPOPHAGUS 1980

A group of tourists get stranded on a Greek island off the beaten path. It appears the whole island is strangely deserted…or is it! Unfathomable horror ensues.

Absolutely stellar!

horcrux2007 12-24-2014 02:11 PM

Suspiria (1977)

Italian horror movie about a series of murders at a prestigious ballet school.

I really enjoyed this one. It was highly stylized, gruesome, and very suspenseful.

Nice atmospheric story about a woman "alone" in a big house with a corpse and old people. Pretty creepy, but the ending wasn't what I'd hoped for.

SPASMS 1983

A man has a psychic connection with a deadly serpent that years earlier killed his brother. For some reason, he imports the serpent into the country and it kills many people. Didn't really seem to make sense but it did have Oliver Reed and Peter Fonda in it. That didn't seem to help matters...

PSYCHO 3 (1986). Seems to be a lot of hate for this, but I thought it was a pretty decent little effort with solid direction by Anthony Perkins. Certainly better than PSYCHO 2. ***

DAWN OF THE DEAD is an all time fantastic five star effort that should be seen by everyone!

If you like DOTD, you might also enjoy MARTIN (1977), also by Romero with an unusual take on vampirism. Really enjoy this and neat seeing a lot of Romero regulars in here. ****

Tragic Theater

In February 1999, a group of spirit communicators attempted to exorcise a film center in Manila of ghosts. These supernatural beings were believed to be those of the victims from a fatal accident during its hasty construction.

Unknown to them, something had long ago taken sanctuary inside the building, feeding on the anger and misery of the victims’ souls. They learned this secret too late and walked into a horrifying encounter.

Starring Andi Eigenmann / Christopher De Leon / John Estrada. Brought to you by Viva Films. Coming this January 8, 2015. Watch this Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8yFuTnQTc4

Paganini Horror, 1989. 7/10

Thumb resize.

The movie deals with a female rock band who buys a lost sheet of music that belonged to legendary Italian violinist/composer Niccolo Paganini who was said to have a pact with Satan. The band turns the sheet music into a synth tune called "Paganini Horror". They rent Paganini's old house and film a crappy music video, suddenly Paganini returns from his tomb, with a golden mask and a switchblade violin and starts to kill one after the other...

Its not really good but its charming..he killed his girl and supposedly strung his violin with her insides...I like that! : )

The Amityville Horror (1979)

A family moves into their dream home only to learn that it was the sight of a mass murder a year earlier.

This movie had a couple of genuinely scary scenes, but it had a lot more lame and dull ones. It dragged on a lot of times, but I felt that the biggest problem with this movie was that there really wasn't anything to be scared of. The "villain" in the movie is really just the house, but even then, they could just walk out of the house like normal. The film was just very underwhelming.

Have you seen the remake starring Ryan Reynolds?

I liked them both, but the remake the best actually.

The remake was terrible and the original is a classic. Also the house may have been the villain but it was using the father and your complaint about them leaving the house could be said for any haunted house movie

I caught the last 20 minutes or so on TV a couple of years ago, but I don't really remember much except that he went full Jack Nicholson unlike the original. I plan to watch the remake, however.

There are quite a few movies where it's not the house that's haunted, like in Paranormal Activity, but even if it is the house, then it's a certain demon, like in Poltergeist. And, if it's not a specific demon, then that location usually is isolated, like in The Shining, or the building itself changes in order to trap the victims, like in Grave Encounters.
