I guess it's alright. I remember being kinda obsessed with The Omen a couple years ago, and I watched all three of them (The Awakening doesn't exist).

The Black Cat (1981) -- 8.5/10; A meaty adaptation of Poe's classic that features some nifty camerawork and editing.

Last night I watched The Exorcist (director's cut). I still don't understand why they ever cut the scene with her coming down the stairs in the original, I think it was one of the creepiest parts of the movie!

What can I say, I will never get tired of watching this one!!

!

Probably because the scene didn't make any sense.

Hater.......::stick out tongue::

My husband watched it with me (his first time watching the director's cut) and he also thought it was a cool scene that should have been left in the original.

I get why you think it doesn't make sense but I think it's more of an "unexpected, I hope they jump" kind of scene.

SOYLENT GREEN (1973). Despite parodies of the ending (was 13 when I saw it the first time and was blown away) and lots of Heston hamminess, still a pretty decent flick and the date in here (2022) not too far off. Edward G. Robinson's last film and a great turn by him, especially in his final scene, even if being taken out by Dick Van Patton:shocked:! Lots of my favorites in supporting roles (Whit Bissel, Joseph Cotton and Chuck Connors) as well as the lovely Leigh Taylor-Young::love::::love::. ***

They cut the scene originally because it looked like shit - they fixed it up digitally in the rerelease making it look more 'realistic'/effective.

Arena (1989) -- 3.5/10; A laughable attempt at intergalactic pro wrestling that was unsurprisingly better than MONSTER BRAWL. Much work must have gone into the creation of the monster in the second fight, so kudos to the FX team.

An American Werewolf in London: 9/10

*Possible Spoilers*

I have seen this film a few times before (though it had certainly been a while since my last viewing), and while I mentioned on another thread I enjoyed the Howling more than an American Werewolf in London, it is still, without question, an incredible film. The film is able to find the right balance between horror and comedy. If you like straight horror, this may not be the film for you, but otherwise it is really good. And, what is interesting is that the comedy does not detract from the horror. It really is quite complementary. There were also some great special effects and excellent makeup. Additionally, the direction draws you in from the beginning to the end. To add to this, the score really matched the film and the soundtrack was well-selected as well. The story is not particularly novel, but that is unimportant. The film is interesting because it takes traditional elements of werewolf films and uses them in new and often unexpected ways. For example, the ultimate "werewolf causes mayhem and is tracked down" scene begins in a porn theater. There was also a really good performance by the main actor and his character was very well-developed. Sadly, many of the other major actors/actresses were not as strong particularly the nurse. In fact, that whole sub-plot just seemed a bit forced and unrealistic. Many of the other minor characters were well-done though on a more positive note. While there may be some not as well-done things in the film and it is not straight horror, it is still a very strong horror film and one of the better werewolf films. If you still have not seen this film, I highly recommend it.

The Last Wave (1977)

A Sydney lawyer defends five Aborigines in a ritualized taboo murder and in the process learns disturbing things about himself.

Different from what I expected but not a bad movie.
Some influences from The Call of Cthulhu.

80's horror-comedy starring a young Jim Carrey. The jokes held up quite well. Recommended also for vampire completists. ::cool::

'The Fog' (1980)
-Adrienne Barbeau

Plot: A Northern California fishing town, built 100 years earlier, becomes shrouded in a mysterious fog containing killer ghosts seeking revenge for their deaths.

Phantoms Review: One of my favorite ghost stories. Creepy, atmospheric and well made.
One of John Carpenters best.

THE STEPFATHER (1987). Wife and I have been watching LOST on NETFLIX and amazed she had never seen this before. Terry O'Quinn is really good as the psycho who wants the perfect family and unravels when things don't work out. You really want things to work out for him and the explosive violence scenes are quite jarring. Worth seeing although you'll be amazed at how lax the police force is here and knowing they would have nabbed him years ago with DNA testing. ***1/2

The ratings are pretty universally average to below average. The film is more famous than the film warrants. The name, idea, and/or the marketing, really made a slash.

As a teen of the 80's, Children of the Corn was one that always stuck out. At that time, it was a creepy movie.

Funny story.....my friends and I would try to scare the crap out of each other by running around in a corn field late at night yelling "Children of the Corn". Someone always ended up screaming. Oh, those silly things you do ::embarrassment::

Almost everyone I talk to hates it, and I have to agree. It's one of the most boring and silly horror movies I've seen.

Let's Jessica to Death: 8.5/10

I finally managed to watch this film; I have been wanting to watch it for a while. I have to say I really enjoyed this film. At times, it felt a little standard, but that changed as the film went on. I was definitely wondering exactly what was going on throughout the film. I figured out certain things, but did not know what they meant. I definitely did not see the ending coming. Another thing was I was able to connect with the characters particularly Jessica. I often wondered if what was happening was real or imagined. They played that angle real well. I definitely agree that the film had a very eerie and creepy feeling. I was definitely on edge at several points. This was enhanced by the simple, piercing score. The film also seemed to posses a somber, depressing feel like as if the situation was hopeless. Overall, an excellent film.

House Of Dark Shadows (1970)
-Jonathan Frid

Plot: Released from his coffin, after 200 years, by local drunk Willie Loomis, vampire Barnabas Collins goes on a killing spree, while at the same time charming his modern era relatives. Soon he meets local girl Maggie Evans and becomes convinced she is the reincarnation of his long dead fiancee Josette and he plans to go through with the wedding.

Phantoms Review: One of my all time favorite vampire movies. Even if you've never seen the tv show, you can follow this movie. This is a well made, well acted horror story. The plot is based on a story from the show, but condensed down to movie length. The film has kind of a Hammer Films style to it and it works well. This is a fun entertaining movie.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)

http://s15.postimg.org/qf5fhd84r/Fri..._manhattan.jpg

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097388/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Some say this is one of the worst movies of the franchise, but if youre a big fan of Jason V you will watch it anyway. Its kinda goofy (but not even close to Jason X). It was also way less bloody than usually. The actual Manhattan part comes way late in the movie and it is disappointing. They could have made something great out of the "Jason in Manhattan" concept.

The Prowler (1981)

http://s29.postimg.org/q0iqax66f/the_prowler.jpg

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082951/?ref_=fn_al_tt_4

Watched it again some time ago. The movie has really original death scenes and very nice special effects made by Tom Savini. The plot is well written and it had a bit of twist at the end. Basically; GI gets dumbed by hes girfriend and after returning he goes on a rampage. The atmosphere stays cold blooded throughout the movie.

All things combined; a above average slasher and a definite classic.

Edit: the years of the movies.

This was one of the worst Halloween sequels. I thought 4 and H20 were excellent though.

WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH HELEN?(1971)-Quirky yet entertaining BABY JANE style flick. Shelley Winters and Debbie Reynolds (singing dancing and bitchy at times) head to Hollywood for a fresh start, but find you can never leave your past fully behind you. Good supporting cast includes Dennis Weaver, Agnes Moorehead, Yvette Vickers, Timothy Carey and Robbi Morgan who does a great Mae West impression here and went on to play the doomed hitch hiker in the 1980 FRIDAY, THE 13th. ***

I have mixed thoughts on Halloween II. I love they picked up the second Halloween I left off. I thought the beginning was horrific & compelling. I thought it stuck to the 'cannon' of Halloween, and there were some excellent scenes (like Laurie and Michael in the Hospital parking lot, and then up to Michael through glass back in). But of course most of it in the hospital seemed pretty uninspired. Carpenter should have directed it, but maybe he thought the story was played out dry.

Deathstalker still looks like it had a great budget. The look and feel is every bit as good as Conan The Barbarian, but because it was made in Argentina the story line and characters just have that "foreign" feel to them. It's like watching an Italian horror movie made by Lucio Fulci. It has a totally different feel to it that an American film. Still, it was enjoyable.

Deathstalker II didn't have the budget and they reused some footage from the first film, but they added the comedy element. All sorts of sexual jokes. "Is that your sword or are you just happy to see me?" kinds of things. Very, very cheesy but in a typical 80's way which made it also very fun for me.

I still have to watch part III and IV. I haven't seen those since they were released and have very little memory of them. I'd re-watched the first two films in the last 5 years so they were a little fresher in my head but it had been long enough that it was time to re-watch them. But yeah, I still enjoyed them and will probably watch them again in a couple more years.

'Fright Night' (1985)
-Roddy McDowell

Plot: A young man enlists the aid of an aging horror actor , when he finds out his neighbor is a vampire.

Phantoms Review: One of my favorite movies. Filled with humor, scares, and homages to classic films. One of the last great vampire movies. AVOID THE REMAKE AT ALL COSTS! .
Watch the original and enjoy.
