To All a Goodnight (1980)
http://i2.wp.com/www.horrorsociety.c...aagnposter.jpg
Finally got around to seeing this. Only really of interest because it was directed by David Hess - otherwise all you get is a very average by the numbers slasher flick. Oh and Harry Reams is in there somewhere..

I've got this same Beta version

I still think it's one of the most solid horror films ever made.

it's in my top 5

The Gate
First time I saw this movie.
Started out alright but I got bored towards the end.
It was funny to see Stephen Dorff as a little kid.
And his buddy was a metal fan who was wearing a Killer Dwarfs patch,
always a plus in my book.
The little creatures were cool too.

urgeok2 02-27-2014 10:58 AM

one of the Killer Dwarfs came into the book store I was working in 30 years ago and shot the shit for a couple of hours (we both collected Doc Savage books :)

Khaleesi 02-27-2014 01:02 PM

The Legend of Lizzie Borden (1975) I believe this was a made-for-TV movie. Elizabeth Montgomery plays the title role. The movie itself was ok, but I watched it with my grandmother (who is a total Lizzie Borden/True Crime nut) and her running commentary was excellent. She sure knows her stuff when it comes to gruesome murders. ::wink::

Cool! I read they're touring again.
But no dates in Europe so far.

I remember when that aired on TV!! Elizabeth Montgomery was in her prime. Funny that I still remember it after all these years.

The French Connection II

not a bad watch but definitely weighed down in the middle...could have been paced better.

I love this film.

Roddy McDowall is excellent in it.

Drug addiction, alcoholism, sadism, beastiality, mutilation, murder, vampirism, necrophilia, cannibalism, not to mention a gamut of sexual goodies. Shall I go on?

I know! My favorite role of his. Also loved Pamela Franklin in it.

I read the Legend of Hell House before I saw the movie, and it is a great read. I got caught up in the first few pages and didn't really put the book down until I was done some hours later. The movie is very good too, I think one of the better haunted house movies that have been made, definitely in the top ten if not the top five.

The Book is a bit nastier than the film - I wish they didn't reduce the history of Hell House to a few lines from Ben.

C.H.U.D

Pretty solid monster flick. It went for the Jaws mode of saving the monsters for the final reel which would've failed miserably in most other films but the great cast kept it rolling.

The Stuff

Lots of fun. Enjoyed the dig at fast food chains. Some of the effects got pretty goofy towards the end but it just added to it's charm for me.

Rabid (1977)

Not my favorite of Cronenberg's, but still pretty interesting. The body horror was great, the overall story arc seemed a bit one dimensional. I doubt I'll revisit it as much as his other stuff, but glad I finally watched it.

Khaleesi 03-06-2014 01:32 PM

Eraserhead (1977)
I tried REALLY hard to like this one (it's my first David Lynch film) but I just couldn't get into it. I actually found it a bit repulsive, to be honest, not that I think it's a bad film, I just have trouble with some aspects of the surrealist genre.

The Bloofer Lady 03-06-2014 01:58 PM

SHIVERS 1975
A parasite infects occupants of an apartment building and madness ensues but its nothing like"Rec". Really.

FRIGHT NIGHT PART TWO 1988
Jerry Dandridge's sister moves in to seek revenge on Charley Brewster.

CRAWLSPACE 1972
An older couple find a troubled young man is secretly living in their crawlspace and they more or less try to take him in. Its thoughtful and really good.

I hope you mean this in a good way...

The Bloofer Lady 03-07-2014 01:34 PM

Defo in a good way. Just as I was writing the description, I realized how much it might sound like "Rec" and if you've seen "Shivers" its really nothing like it at all.

FryeDwight 03-08-2014 01:56 AM

Watched THE HOWLING (1981) last night...still a fun little flick with great cast, still impressive Rob Bottin FX and loads of "in jokes" ***

The Bloofer Lady 03-08-2014 04:32 AM

Loved "The Howling"...so 80's.

Khaleesi 03-10-2014 10:35 AM

Santa Sangre (1989): Very impressed with this one. Reminded me a lot of "Freaks", another of my favorites.

Scarecrows 03-10-2014 10:40 AM

Carrie(1976)....great horror movie..old version is much better than the remake..well i think so anyway.

Baron Von Marlon 03-10-2014 07:23 PM

Malibu Bikini Shop
Silly eighties comedy with a couple of fun moments.

Dead and Buried

I watched Dead and Buried tonight, a ridiculous horror film from 1981. The plot is people are being brutally murdered in a northeastern coastal town, and the crimes are being perpetrated by the town's residents. Not everyone is in on it, and the town sheriff is on the case. From what I have read, the movie was originally going to be a black comedy, which would have suited this material a whole lot more, but instead the producers changed it to be played straight, and what's more they wanted more gore, so they added some extra kills after initial filming. I could see this movie working as a black comedy, but it's much too silly for straight horror, so ultimately this movie did not work for me. The kills were way too over-the-top for a serious movie, for starters. There are many lapses in logic which would have been fine for a comedy but stretches the notion of 'suspension of disbelief' well past the breaking point for something striving for plausible. The twist ending would have made for a great comedy gag, but here is just unintentionally hilarious.

The movie isn't completely without merit though, there were some good make-up effects, courtesy of Tom Savini. Like I said above, there are a couple of laughs in it, albeit unintentional. Also a brief but welcome topless scene featuring a hot blond. A minor but early horror role for Robert Englund. However, all told, there just isn't enough to make this movie worth an hour and a half, given all the much better movies out there. Dead and Buried isn't terrible, there are plenty of much worse movies, but it just isn't very good, in my opinion. This is another case of the movie poster being much cooler than the movie.

Ferox13 03-11-2014 12:01 AM

^I haven't seen it in some time but I love that film.

Yea, good question.

Maybe because i've seen it too many times by now. So the experience just isn't the same as it was 20 years ago. Or maybe i just wasn't in the right mood today, coz it definitely is one of my favorite movies.

Any chance you saw the One Flew... scenes they did in It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia? (I love that show)
Was a short but cool tribute.

No, never seen a single episode of that show.

Been awhile since seeing a 70's/80's movie. Last one I saw those was beetle juice lol. That's such a classic and super funny.

Most people either love it or hate it.
It's about a group of friends but instead of one crazy character in the bunch, they're all sociopaths/psychopaths.
Danny DeVito is one the main characters and plays his best role ever.
