Great hard hitting 70s film.

Savage Weekend 1979

Competent psycho backwoods killer film. A few interesting plot elements including a gay character who wipes up a bar with some rednecks. William Sanderson once again plays a redneck weirdo.

A couple of attractive women who keep shedding their clothes make this a perfect newb film.

sold!

I actually don't think I've seen that one

Delirium (1987) Lamberto Bava film starring Daria Nicolodi (Deep Red, Tenebrae, Phenomena and Terror At The Opera) in a reasonable supporting role. Lacks the wow factor death sequences of Bava's previous work-A Blade In The Dark but quite good especially towards the end

The Stone Killer

about 10 years ago Bronson was shooting a TV movie up here in Toronto - Family of Cops

I worked with the wife of the location manager at the time and knowing I was a film guy (plus I designed a web page for him) - he got me Bronson's prop business card from the movie with Bronson's autograph on it.

I just remembered that I had it now ..

The Hidden (1987)-Starred Kyle McLachlan (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet) and Claudia Christian (Babylon 5, Maniac Cop 2). It was pretty good I enjoyed it- nice little sci-fi horror with the aliens taking over bodies and taking anything they like which is a good pop at consumerism.

Also has the guy that was the sherrif in Twin Peaks- Michael Ontkean.

Fearonsarms 02-07-2014 05:17 PM

Him and Kyle McLachlin were great in Twin Peaks great show. Lin Shaye was in it as well with a small part-she was excellent as Elise in Insidious.

Just watched Mario Bava's 'Baron Blood'. I know this was a hit in its day but I don't think it is among Bava's best, however it isn't his worst either. It felt like a Hammer movie. Baker's role was clearly written with Vincent Price in mind, and I think Joseph Cotten was somewhat miscast in that part. It's as though he tried for a Price impersonation in his performance, likely at the direction of Bava. I felt the direction and pacing were a bit clumsy for a Bava movie. Coincidentally I recognized the little girl as the same actress who would play the hot, spooky usherette in Demons years later, I am a bit proud of myself for catching that. To the movie's credit, the location they filmed at, that castle, was terrific. Elke Sommer was hot, but the real star of this movie was the castle.

Watermelon Man (1970)
http://people.uncw.edu/smithms/ace%2...gle/o87370.jpg

Oddball comedy/drama movie by Melvin Van Peebles, made a year before his more famous Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song. This film had some great ideas but it lacked a little in execution. It is definably a product of the times too. Mantan Moreland makes an appearance in one his last film roles. Keep an eye out for Blaxploitation regular, D'Urville Martin too.

urgeok2 02-10-2014 04:37 AM

Herman Raucher?

He wrote Summer of 42

he also wrote a cool little horror novel i really like.

Both Summer of 42 and the horror novel (i can't remember the name) are the only 2 books that ever made me laugh out loud while reading them.

Wanted to curl up with a good snow-themed horror today and this did not disappoint. A very unsettling Yeti. Won't be venturing out in the elements anymore today!

The Amityville Horror 1979 (5/10)

I don't like assessing films based on second viewings, as I think the 1st viewing is part of the quality. But I saw this last as a child, and a lot of films don't stand up well to a re-review as an adult. Amityville was not an exception.

It was quite slow moving until the last 30 mins. Up until that point, I didn't find the story that interesting, and the characters seemed rather flat. This time around, the last 30 mins, and the ending was a bit anticlimactic, especially in the sense the going-ons appeared rather disjointed and arbitrary from what had happened through the first 2/3rds. It didn't retain the creepiness and scariness I remembered as a kid.

Thief (1981)

http://www.retrohound.com/wp-content...ll-600x337.jpg

70's (shot in 80's) Heist film, well crafted by Michael Mann and starring a particularly unlikeable James Caan.

Love that movie. great Tangerine Dream score

Khaleesi 02-19-2014 04:59 AM

Deliverance (1972)
I don't know why I haven't watched this film before since I've heard so many good things about it. Anyway, I really enjoyed it, especially the performances of both Voight and Reynolds. Excellent acting. And the dueling banjos scene was all kinds of awesome. I think I'll have to read the novel now.

I kind of agree I was a bit let down seeing it a second time after seeing it as a kid but I much prefer Amityfille 2: The Possession overall.

I think I saw Amityville 2 a long time ago. I see on rottentomatoes and IMB it got horrible reviews. It's on youtube for free. ATM.

The Thing (1982)...A horror movie you never get fed up of watching..::cool::

cheebacheeba 02-22-2014 12:20 AM

The first "Death Wish" movie.
First time viewing.
Quite enjoyable.
Haven't really seen Bronson in anything other than ?I think? The great escape.
Was the accent put on?

Anyways yeah I found it solidly entertaining, chilling in parts, funny in others.
I've recently acquired all of them, so I'll check out the rest.

Ferox13 02-22-2014 03:33 AM

The sequel is a good watch - pretty mean spirited too. After that the DW series goes a bit nuts but still worth your time.

Straker 02-22-2014 07:16 AM

The Streetfighter is probably my favourite Bronson performance, such a quality actor.

When I first saw it in the theaters in 1976 it scared the heck out of me..even watching it now Sculpt it still provides enough action and chills..so yeah to me this movie is one of the classics of the 70s..great movie to have in your collection::cool::

Sculpt 02-24-2014 11:55 AM

I noticed many films of this era get hit with being plodding, and many are. I read that of this film. Of course actors like Peck and Remick can help alleviate a plodding script. Did you find it plodding or very engaging all the way through?

Fearonsarms 02-24-2014 11:23 PM

Gargoyles (1972) This was a low budget tv movie that I really enjoyed. It was fun, definitely not scary but it was good for what it was-very much of it's time but a blast.
