What a piece of crap this was.

A movie about an urban legend about a killer who will kill someone on a videochat if you type in "I did it for the lulz"......

Seriously?

Who thought that was a good idea? That stupid premise alone nearly killed it for me. This is supposed to be a horror movie, i felt like i was watching a scary movie bit. This movie tries so hard to be Scream but barely even comes near it. The first kill which should be iconic and set the feeling for the rest of the movie was rushed, boring and not scary at all.

The characters are the most annoying, fakest, immature morons i've ever seen in a movie and if Smiley wasn't so stupid, i would've been rooting for him.

There are also so many visual flaws in this thing. There's scenes where you would see characters behaving a certain way but then it would switch to the videochat POV and they wouldn't be doing that even though you could still hear them behaving that way and sentences in the chat would be switched around mixing up who said what.

The acting is terrible, the writing sucks and nothing about it is scary. Avoid this one.

ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2

I barely remember the first one. But I decided to watch the sequel. It was short and had a few notable actors. But what a horrible movie this is. It's like the writer or director really hates women. The girls in this movie aren't just killed they are maimed in some of the worst ways I've seen. This is far worse than the one scene each in Hatchet 1 and 2 that I have problems with. Also the main girl is given a health problem I assume for us to feel bad for her or to continue the whole let's make everything bad for the women theme. Which by the way continues to the after the credits scene. Thomas Dekker should have his fill of bad horror movies at this point too. Avoid this one at all costs unless you like this sort of thing.

Dark Night Of The Scarecrow-Good supernatural horror with some quite believable characters though the acting was so-so but the elemental menacing mood is pretty enchanting and the gruesome death scenes were very effectively done. Recommended to atmospheric horror fans.

The Abominable Dr Phibes-Thanks to Dara for the rec. A very unique film with minimal delivery that really shows just what great presence vincent price has in his movies. The creative death scenes (including the legendary sprout juice death) are very garish and flamboyant and were certainly a direct influence to some of the puzzle solving scenes in the saw movies. Though as a warning I must say the film is aiming for an artists impression rather than story or characterization of the victims. This didn't bother me however as I couldn't help but smile at the lavishness of it all.

General chit chat about movies you've recently seen

Sooo, last night I watched a few horrors, Excision, [REC] 3 Genesis, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Killer and Grace.. Excision I was dissapointed with and it was frankly quite disturbing, it reminded me of a couple of other Horrors I'd seen before, has anyone else seen it, thoughts?.. [REC] I liked it, I wasn't overly impressed but I liked how Zombie reflections were this strange creature and it played more on Gods punishment rather then a virus that was contracted out of no where, also it was really cute how when the just married couple died even though she was Zombie and had just bitten his tongue out, they still reached out to hold hands :) .. Abraham Lincoln was too hyped I think, don't get me wrong it was good but I thought it would be a lot better, definately Blade and Underworld over it anyday.. Grace surprised me, I didn't expect to ever see a film like that, a Zombie born baby and a mother that kills and breastfeeds for that baby is crazy, I was hooked I couldn't stop watching, it was one of the strangest films I've ever seen I think, one thing I didn't understand is that at the end the baby is teething, the mother is still breastfeeding but she doesn't contract the virus :S .. Anywho that's me done, comment your thoughts :)

Hmm,The teething bit..Id say that when a baby is teething the teeth arent actually out, just causing considerable pressure behind the gum forcing them to chow down on objects to relieve the pain.So The baby didnt break the skin?? ....or something!!!

Dara 10-18-2012 12:30 AM

As for the Mother breastfeeding and killing for her baby.I find this completely plausible as id kill for my three sons as they can be demonic at times!

I didn't think of the teething part.. Yeah I'd kill for my son, I think I'd switch to formula, but on the otherhand if I had lost my baby mid pregnancy like she had I wouldn't carry full term so this wouldn't happen to me :D .. Basically she had a miscarriage but chose to go full term and after holding her baby for a bit after the birth the baby came back zombie :S ..very strange..

She would also probably die of some hideous infection...or absorb the baby and find it years later as some calcified mummy in her womb. But thats another potential horror!

Yeahh, it didn't make sense to me.. I swear I read about a woman who was pregnant but didn't give birth for 40 years and the baby was literally mummified..

Intruders (2011)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../intruders.jpg

Didn't really have high hopes for this one, as it seemed to be universally panned... But with my Man Clive Owen and an incredibly intriguing movie poster, I just couldn't help myself...

But it was really a waste a time. You have a fairly interesting concept, two parallel stories that are intertwining, but ultimately the "twist" winds up being fairly easily predictable and the latter-half of the movie is incredibly overwrought.

It's a pity because I would say that at least Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later and Intacto) was trying something different (and I do have to say that the daddy/daughter scenes between Clive Owen and
Ella Purnell were utterly charming), but it was ultimately boring, predictable, and over-done.

Carnage (2011)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...rl/carnage.jpg

Carnage is Polanski 's latest feature film, adapted from the play God of Carnage by French playwright Yasmina Reza and stars an utterly brilliant cast of Jody Foster, John C. Reilly, Christoph Waltz, and Kate Winslet. The drama centers around two couples trying to settle a strife between their school-age sons civilly, but awkward conversation soon devolves into an incredibly tense character-driven black comedy.

The acting is utterly ridiculously good, which is no surprise. Christoph Waltz is as menacing as a passive-aggressive egomaniac while Jody Foster is pathetically anxious and high-strung and Reilly and Winslet bring in fantastic performances as well.

My only issue with this movie is that I'm not sure it translated all that well from stage to big screen. Plays have a certain claustrophobic element to them, being that all of the players are literally trapped on stage... But in this environment, I found myself asking what I ask all victims of a haunted house: "WHY DON'T YOU JUST LEAVE?!"

Reminds me a bit of Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf but ultimately left me wanting more. It's not terrible... Just not as great as I had anticipated giving the cast, director, and source material.

Red Lights (2012)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...red_lights.jpg

I have to be honest; I'm such a fanboy. Just seeing that Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy had top billing was enough to me (despite the red flags of awful trailers and the fact that I am now wary of anything that stars Robert De Niro). I should have listened to the part of me that said Wow. That movie looks just play awful. No wonder I haven't heard of it.

Interesting concept (paranormal investigators who seek debunking "activities"), great cast, but it was BORING. BORING BORING. And then when it actually got interesting, it was so far-fetched that I just lost interest.

It's worthy of note, though, that I experienced my first earthquake during an exciting table-shaking seance scene, so that was pretty horrifying and off-putting... But, sadly, it was the best part of the movie.

2/5.

Martin (1976)

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...l28/MARTIN.jpg

My all-time personal favourite film. It is beyond me why this film is so obscure and overshadowed by Romero's zombie trilogy - it is in fact probably his best film (in my opinion).

The story gets me - I love the idea of a 17 year old boy who believes himself to be an 84 year old vampire (or perhaps he is indeed a vampire, who knows). I love the way they don't need to give the audience the answer to this question and leave it open to interpretation.

I just really dig the vibe of this film. The music is haunting and melancholy, Amplas' performance is beyond perfect (it was like he lived the role), and all the elements just come together to make this one of the most beautiful and haunting films out there.

VERY highly recommend this to anyone who hasn't gotten the chance to see it.

Basket Case (1982) Never seen the sequels to this so thought I would start by watching the full uncut version of this. The difference is obviously the death scenes are more bloody and longer. Still the blast I remembered it to be. Hilarious on so many levels. Really looking forward to seeing the sequels now.

fyfjoe 10-19-2012 08:43 PM

Vile- It started off promising enough, showing a doctor cutting open someone's chest then pouring salt in the wound by literally showing handfuls of salt into the man's chest. The story ended up being somewhat close to that of saw, A group of people woke up in a house and had to torture each other to extract chemicals from their brains and only when a certain amount is obtained are they let out. The acting was so bad my GF didn't want to watch it anymore, So I'll have to revisit it later on.

The Devil's Rock- Holy shit was the cover of this movie misleading, I thought it was about an actual rock group based on the picture. It's about a couple commandos who head out to a Nazi fortress in an attempt to sabotage their secret weapons, which turns out to be a shape shifting demon. Based on that description I thought I'd like it more but ended up falling asleep because it was pretty slow and the sound quality was shit. Will have to rewatch this as well.

Romero's Dead trilogy are my all time favorite films. However, I own Martin as well as a few other Romero films, and I agree. Martin is a must see for any horror fan. It is a very depressing movie in a very good way. I agree with your 10/10 rating.

Thanks to all the random fanboys who recommended it, i'm so glad I wasted my money.

Entire movie was utter garbage except for:

The last 3 seconds of "Amateur Night"
The cute guy from "Tuesday the 17th"
Most of 10/31/98

Really poor film, and I haven't had to say that for a while.
