Woman in Black---from all the hype I half expected to shit my pants...I may have farted once or twice but that could have been from the beer. Good movie though

The Sound of My Voice--Is she a time traveler or just a dangerous cult leader...well made low budget little movie...great acting and the plot will keep you watching

House of the Devil---much better than Innkeepers [IMO] nice 70s/80s feel to it.

Straker 10-09-2012 09:18 AM

I thought Tom Noonan was awesome in House of the Devil...

InfernusChickx 10-09-2012 09:20 AM

The Barrens....with Stephen Moyer, All about the Jersey Devil.

It wasn't bad...all twisty, turny and a bit of a shocker at the end x

The Thing (2011).

I've been watching and listening to this one a bit over the days. I'm trying to find the good parts. Really attempting to see if it's worth owning. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is one of those actresses who should be able to make a movie worth owning by herself. But this is The Thing. A prequel and in some ways remake of one of the best sci-fi horror movies. A movie that really takes away from the opening of Carpenter's The Thing if you've never seen it before. The 2011 version has good acting, a good soundtrack, and even the CGI isn't that bad. But that deep feeling of dread and paranoia is gone. Or it is certainly no where near as strong as in the Carpenter version. I can't bring myself to own this movie despite all of Mary Elizabeth Winstead's strong scenes. I even think her intro humming "Who Can It Be Now?" is pretty cool. I'll leave with a good two part video review I found which breaks down many of the problems with the 2011 version of The Thing.

I think the first film I remember seeing him in was Last Action Hero. :o

Well strictly speaking it would have been The Monster Squad I guess, but I didn't realise he was Frankenstein until years later.

Prometheus: 9/10

Not half as good as imax 3d, but still madly in love. My mom shit a brick at the end, she's an Alien fan boy like myself and I was so happy I got to show her the movie.

Crowsnest (2012)

Another average found footage horror with a bunch of stupid characters.

I totally love the Thing...the first one anyway, I haven't see the new one as the first one would take a lot of beating so why bother!

Werewolf:The Beast Among us - 19th century village being menaced by werewolf yarn, pretty average and ultimately forgettable. 5/10

Cargo - Swiss sci fi thriller where the crew of a space freight ship discover their cargo is not what they thought and neither is their destination.

The film was solid on all levels, the story was interesting, the design was good and the cast were competent. It just lacked a little something extra to make it really standout. 7/10

Watched that myself about a year or so ago, thought it was pretty good too...Good atmosphere to the movie, although the ending kinda just fizzled out for me and the CGI outside the ship towards the end of the movie was a let down. Felt like it went from dark, moody sci- fi to TV movie, which was a real shame. Still enjoyed it though.

Just watched a movie I had never heard of before called "Prometheus" from 2012. Seems to have slipped under the radar and is directed by a man named Scott Ridley.

Nothing like a Punisher night to test out a new premium sound card and a fantastic speaker system.
Head & ears still ringing.

Quarantine 2: Terminal.

I thought this one was pretty good. I love the stuff on the small airplane. This isn't a reality/found footage thing either which was surprising. I thought the original Quarantine was ok. But wasn't really needed as it was for the most part the same as [REC]. Maybe English audiences really hate reading subtitles. Anyway, the lead actress in Quarantine 2 is good. I believed the performances which is what matters. If you like the fast rage type zombies this is a good one.

fyfjoe 10-11-2012 10:33 PM

Grimm Love - same story as the movie "Cannibal" by Marian Dora (which I also own and watched recently) about a man who searches through the internet for a person willing to be cannibalized, of course somebody replies. A quick google search will let you know it's all based on a true story. Grimm Love focused more on the story behind the two men involved. Keri Russell, while hot, is involved in an unnecessary feeling side story about an American traveling to Germany to research the story for her thesis. She gets the tape, watches it, which leads to one of the most awkward rushed endings I'd ever seen.

Cannibal- focuses on the acts committed by these two men, in graphic detail. One of the most infamous facts of the story is one attempting to bite the penis off of the other, then after removing it with a knife, feeding it to the man whom's penis it was. In the beginning of the movie "Feed" I believe this story was explored a bit as well.

The Cabin in the Woods (2012)

Watched this for the second time. So much fun.

V/H/S (2012)

It's not a masterpiece or anything, but I enjoyed myself overall.

I agree,it did sort of fizzle out towards the end,it had a lot of potential that was not quite seen through.

Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter - I didn't hold out much hope for this one,but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

The action sequences were on the whole fun to watch, although sometimes the effects were a little too cartoonish . I thought Benjamin Walker showed some promise and will probably go on to better things.

I was quite surprised how straight faced it all was and wonder if it would have been better played more tongue in cheek. 6/10

Watched Reincarnation last night. Sadly, this is the only Asian horror movie I own. I should get more.....

abraham lincoln vampire hunter.

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, discovers vampires are planning to take over the United States. He makes it his mission to eliminate them.

good fun to watch. 6/10

grave encounters 2, not as good as the first needed more scares and less story, but overall not bad. 5/10

Great to have such films with fantastic soundtracks to test them out with a premium sound card. Pure bliss!

On a side note, the neighbors might start complaining very soon. ;)

If they really make a complain, then I suggest to invite them on the Halloween night & revisit the original Ju-On & the Ring...I'm sure Kayako & Sadako's appearance in your added high quality sounds will make this Halloween a very special one for them.;):D

No need to invite them. I'll just pop in the Ju-On: Grudge disc after midnight and crank up the volume to 100%. :)

And superb pic, Chrono!

Slaughterhouse - Slasher film from the 80's that takes place in a (where else) Slaughterhouse. This movie was great fun. I'm surprised more people don't know about it. Plenty of dark comedy elements and some great practical gore effects towards the end. Although I could have done without the process of pigs being slaughtered shown at the beginning. Read some negative reviews online where people compared it to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but I don't think that was the filmmakers intent at all.

If you like films like Intruder, some of the early Friday the 13th films, Blood Diner I'd recommend checking this one out.

this was definatley better and way sicker than the first one.if its non stop torture and gore ya looking for this is for you.
the human centipede 3 is spose to have 500 people in the centipede, getting a bit silly now,and i dont think anything will really give you the shock factor after human centipede 2

Dara 10-13-2012 01:09 AM

I watched Inbred...like the texas chainsaw massacre but set in Yorkshire. It was nowt groundbreaking but I did enjoy the Ferret and the song' EEh byEEh By gum'!as they take down the annoying victims one by one!
Emily Booth was in the first scene for about a minute and meets a mighty fine death even if I do say so myself.
One to watch if you want a drink as you dont have to concentrate on the plot.

fyfjoe 10-13-2012 12:10 PM

I know I already talked about Slaughterhouse but I watched it again and expanded on the film here

The Howling-
First viewing believe it or not. I bought what I thought was a complete set of the films online and it turned out it didn't have the first two movies. So I bought those so I could watch them from the beginning. I thought it took a bit too long to get going but when it finally did it was worth it. The Werewolves were some of the better looking i'd ever seen. I also haven't seen very many "werewolf movies", and I remember watching Blood and Chocolate years ago where they turned into wolf dogs...i'm just glad that wasn't happening here.

ImmortalSlasher 10-13-2012 08:08 PM

REC 2.

I like this one a lot. A very good sequel to the first one and a big surprising twist. This one went in a different direction than the American Quarantine 2 Terminal sequel. I think I prefer the direction of REC 2. Even though Quarantine 2 is still good. But REC 2 really ups things with the twist. The reveal and ending is shocking. There is also a new type of kill I've never seen before by a kid. Definitely looking forward to seeing REC 3 now.

Posher778 10-13-2012 10:40 PM

Sinister - 7/10

I had really high hopes for this one, and I thought it was surprisingly good. I'm sure some people will disagree, but I thought it was actually scary. The jump scares are well done and the suspense is better than I thought it would be. Lots of build up and foreboding footage. In all honesty, it's pretty disturbing. I think the reason I thought it was so chilling was because it's a very good mix of true crime meets malevolent supernatural force. The story is pretty predictable, but pacing and acting are great, with just enough comic relief to keep it scary and in tone without overdoing it like Insidious did. Another thing I really enjoyed was the amount of scares. Not too few, not too many. Go see it.
