Still waiting/hoping for a remake of this franchise.

Thought the story in this one was incredibly confusing. And i can't stand the "superhero" action.

That being said, it's one of the better RE movies.

Am I really gay if i'd totally marry/sex/ravage Milla Jovovich? She isn't an incredible actress or anything but if you watch her in interviews and stuff, she's one of the sexiest personalities alive in my opinion.

I agree though, even though I enjoy the franchise movies for what they are, entertaining, no brainer (hurr hurr) action movies, I think a true horror version would be intense.

The Master (2012)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...2012Poster.jpg

Finally got to see this tonight. I don't want to get too much into the film without seeing it a second time, but I will say that it's a confounding and fascinating experience, if not occasionally frustrating. A logical step in Anderson's ouvre, The Master is an almost-abstract character study/studies, a nearly microscopic examination of two characters (but mainly the one, Joaquin Phoenix's) and the strange gravitational relationship they share. It eschews nearly all back-story and explicit motivations in favor of stewing in moments. It is also one of cinema's great study of faces. Framed in tight, telephoto shots, we can see the subtlest internal movements transmitted on the surface. And that's to say nothing about the 65mm spectacle of the whole thing.
Definitely recommended, but it will warrant and deserve an extra viewing or two.

Couldn't agree more. First one was one of the best martial arts movie ive ever seen. Second one was a let down. Why go in that east vs west kinda direction.

I watched The Cabin in the woods which was entertaining and featured evil Unicorns so I was best pleased.
I also saw The living and the dead,a difficult watch .The sons descent into psychosis was brilliantly done and although it makes for a depressing view I highly recommend it.

Yeah, that is definitely one of my BOTTOM TOP 5. Long and boring as all get out. I put that movie in when I have insomnia. Puts me right out every time.

As others have said though Exorcist III is a great movie.

The Thing from Another World

I've been holding off on watching this movie. I started watching this yesterday but unfortunately something came up. However the first 30 minutes or so were easily better than the recent version. But I don't think it will top Carpenter's version.

I got to watch Ip Man 2 last night. I didn't like it as much as the first but I still enjoyed it. I understood why they went the route they did though. During that time period when Ip Man moved to Honk Kong you did have a lot of that British vs. Chinese sentiments going on. Ip Man didn't fight a British Boxer as far as I know in real life, but it works on that Rocky 4 mentality. They were being oppressed and here, one "humble" Chinese man stands up for the whole country and beats the arrogance and vanity of the ruling class into the ground. Movies like that always sell tickets especially if you live in the country that was being oppressed.

Watching the Joy Ride duo recently made me dig into my DVDs and pull out one of my favorites of the 90s...

Still as excellent as I remembered it. Yes it resembles Spoorloos and The Duel a bit, but still stands on it's own, and surprisingly stands the test of time as well.
Superb little edgy nail-biter. Recommended to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

She neither saves it or ruins it for me.

The Corridor (2010)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps2f3d0b4a.jpg

This is one of those rare, quality indie horror flicks. While it does have its faults (someone who shaved his head instead of having bald makeup, for example... And at some some pretty poorly exposition), it's unique, has genuinely creepy moments, and had enough mystery and weirdness that I was just glued to the screen.

When I say "quality little indie horror flicks," it's of the same ilk of Dead End, yellowbrickroad, The Caller, etc.

I would say that the only dissatisfying part of the film was the ending, but it's probably because the story was so bizarre I'm not sure how they could have made it satisfying (and believe me there were a couple of cliched places that it could have gone but it didn't), so definitely cheers to that. Reminded me a LOT of yellowbrickroack in that it's bizarre, keeps your interest, and the end leaves you sort of perplexed.

Honestly, when it came down to it I really liked this. Wish that more horror films split the mold like this. Hats off.

The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps774f49cd.jpg

Uhm. Ok. Wow.

I was really trying NOT to keep my hopes up for this one because I was worried that I'd be disappointed... But to be honest, this is truly one of those rare movies that remind me of what I absolutely love horror, gives me hope for modern horror movies, and just satisfies me as a fan. Simply stated, it's a horror movie lover's horror movie.

I love the nod to pretty much every movie trope ever (though my boyfriend kept pointing out the very obvious and prolific Raimi nods which drove me nuts but that's OK)...

I have a slight qualm over the ending, probably just because the scenes leading up to the end were so ridiculously AWESOME, GORY, SCARY, and esoteric, I didn't want it to end... And also I think this is one of those movies that's almost too clever for it's own good, meaning the story is so odd, unique, and dark that no ending would be satisfying.

HOWEVER...

[SPOILERS]

I was just pontificating over how incredibly neat it would be if they released an extended Blu-Ray edition that had 4 alternative versions, based on what they were about the "choose" in the basement (the conch, the Pandora's ball, the necklace, the movie reel, the musicbox) - Would there be any difference in the ending based on there choice? I think it would be a neat way to extend this concept of modern sacrifice having to be based on the victim's will - If their will is different, does the world end? o.O The geek in me wants to find out.

Oh. OH. And I cheered out loud when Sigourney Weaver stepped in the final scenes... GEEKGASM!!!!!!!

I ALSO totally and absolutely geeked out to the nod to Portal - I mean... As a horror-loving console player, I've pretty much just wet myself with excitement over that.

[/SPOILERS]

Ridiculously good. Also one of those RARE self-conscious movies that isn't annoying and pretentious. It was very fun, very well-directed, and acted, and thoroughly enjoyable.

HIGHLY recommended.

4.5/5.

Yeah the Purple magazine picture has nudity. By the way, I tried using the Attachments option in the Control Panel for some pictures and it wasn't working. Are attachments turned off on the forum? Maybe I'll just use my new photobucket.

The Dunwich Horror (1970).

I wanted to watch this after seeing the poster. Plus, it's Lovecraft which always gets me a bit interested. However, the movie sucks. It's barely interesting. The lead actress redefines the term "dumb blonde." It's like common sense doesn't work with her. The best thing about the movie was a seaside altar shot.

Posher778 09-24-2012 12:38 PM

The Cabin in the Woods- 9/10

For about the 6th viewing so far. I love watching people complain about it online when it was the most entertaining movie in a long time. Scream 4, Trick R Treat, and Cabin in the Woods would make for an EXCELLENT halloween party line up and I might actually do that.

The only word that comes closest to describing this film is "transcendental." And even that word is just the tip of the iceberg.

Quite possibly Ken Russell's best work, even better than The Devils, IMO. Fans of El Topo and other Jodorowsky works would love this one. Watch it after midnight, when the sounds of the living world have died down, and have your speakers set to surround mode. You will love the experience, if you are a surreal film fan like me.

V/H/S (2012)

I was really impressed by this found footage anthology. I was concerned at first since it had received some mixed and mediocre reviews on here, but ultimately I really enjoyed it.

Just as with any anthology, there were some films that were stronger than others (Amateur Night, The Sick Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger - which made me jump and scream out loud, by the way; great jump effects, and 10/31/98, which was successfully scary but also just fun to watch the effects and see a filmmaker play with a sub-genre within a sub-genre. The main story arc was also very well-done and deliciously creepy.

Even the "weaker" films were above average found footage and fun to watch. Part of what I like about found footage films are the effects - Sure, some directors use "static" or the camera panning away to cover a low budget... But some directors are very clever when it comes to objects flying, appearing and reappearing, etc.

All-in-all, I really liked this movie and was honestly impressed. I feel like I'm a 2-for-2 now, watching two very strong horror movies in a row that give me hope for the modern horror tale.

Highly recommended. Don't let the fact that it's found footage turn you off. Lots of good stuff here.

I gave it the same score. I thought the first half was amazing, but closer to the ending it almost began to lose the horror. Some parts I thought in the dream world seemed too fairy tale like.

I love the entire thing, especially showing us the Further, which other movies chicken out or just refuse to do because *blah blah use your imagination*. They showed you exactly what the netherworld looked like, and it was creepy! I loved the empty, melancholy feeling. The first 2/3rds of the movie is an atmospheric haunted house flick, and then you sit down in a little cart and ride a haunted house ride. That's what it feels like to me.

The Uninvited- 7/10

I hate that lots of people don't like this. Considering all the truly horrible remakes and adaptations that were coming out in this time frame, this one is great. Emily Browning is a really good young actress, and when you watch the film a second time a lot of interesting things come to light.

I saw this once and the twist was a surprise. I'll probably see it again as Emily Browning was an unknown to me until I saw her in Sucker Punch.

Baby Blood (1990)
French horror comedy offering a lot of entertainment value and absolutely gallons of blood. Definitely not for everyone but its unabashed quirkiness really does work surprisingly well. This does mean that some of the scenes are a bit campy but in a good darkly comical way. I probably shouldn't like this but I actually did so I'll rank it as a guilty pleasure.

Scowled Jekyll 09-26-2012 06:19 PM
