The Triangle. Not a slasher or anything like that but pretty cool none the less.

Hey did he get into outer space? It was never explained. Worst of the series so far. Only 2 to go, I hope they make a little more sense. because the leprechaun character is awesome.

4.5/10

Space is probably my favorite one! 8/10 for me. I laughed hysterically the first time I saw it. The next 2 were quite annoying to me, although the fact that I have zero interest in Rap music didn't help.

V/H/S

By far the best POV movie and definitely one of the best horror movies to come around in a long while. Camera work was great. The different uses of the POV theme were unique. Scary, gory, and with all the better upcoming or already established writers and directors. Had very high hopes for this one and it delivered soundly. Hope Sinister lives up to its hype now........

Snow White and The Huntsman (2012)

I'm not sure but may be that almost expressionless, fade Twilight girl had some contribution to make the film an utterly boring watch.

"Dark Shadows" 6/10

Looked really amazing, but lacked storywise. In fact i managed to fall asleep several times.

"The Tall Man" 7-8/10

Loved the originality, the weirdness and all the twists throughout the first half of this movie. Only thing i didn't like was the final "answer", and i would've loved to see much more to the hidden cave.

"Necromentia" 5/10

The whole movie felt like an intro to a REAL movie or a series. The 3 chapters were way too short (especially 1 & 3) and didn't really have a lot of depth, which was too bad coz the idea was really interesting. But in the end this "teaser" didn't do much for me.

I really liked Kristen Stewart. Then Twilight happened...

Straker 09-12-2012 03:03 PM

The Possession: Just about as average as films get really.... Somewhere between The Exorcist and Poltergiest in terms of plot and feel but nowhere near as good as either. Nothing much happens really, not much character development, not much tension, kinda just hits the marks you would expect and does what it says on the tin. Can't even bring myself to really criticise it 'cause it was just so ordinary.

The Villain 09-12-2012 04:42 PM

The Sitter
Actually really funny. Jonah Hill delivers another hilarious performance.

Invaders From Mars (86)
This used to terrify me as a kid but now i find it kinda silly, but in a good way.

And Halloween 2 is not even close to the original. Multiple viewings will confirm this.

I'd say its a little wrong to say this as this is more of opinion. I agree with him IMO that the second one is almost as good as the first. I think if they would have stopped at just the first 2 it would have gone down as a much more respectable set of movies.

ImmortalSlasher 09-12-2012 08:01 PM

Freddy vs Jason.

It's on for free so I watched bits and pieces again. I think the idea of kids fighting both Freddy and Jason is good. Just that Freddy and Jason should not fight. That is what's stupid. The movie does have some good scenes. The opening at Crystal Lake is great. Maybe second or tied for the best nude swimming scene with the one in Friday the 13th Part 2. The songs during the credits are good. There are many funny lines. They probably should have figured out a way to keep Katharine Isabelle's character. She's a good actress and steals the show for the opening 1/4. It's kind of similar to Katie Cassidy in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake. Even though Rooney Mara was in the Nightmare remake I think her dislike of the movie probably affected her performance. The Nightmare remake did suck. Largely because of the people behind the scenes.

I wouldn't be against another Friday the 13th / Nightmare on Elm Street movie or comic for that matter provided the right people were in charge.

I watched Disco Pigs again..Its a sad tale in all but really worth a watch .Cillian Murphy plays a blinder.

Pontypool

All the action takes place in a radio station in a small canadian town as the station staff try to learn whats causing violent attacks all over their region.
Good slant on a common virus epidemic type story, the second hand nature of learning whats going on worked for me,as phone calls with eyewitnesses and interviews with other media outlets slowly fill in the gaps.

Defo worth a view.

Vampire Journals (1997)

Nice sequel to Charles Band's excellent "Subspecies" series. But still easy to follow and get into if you haven't seen those films. Well thought-out script and good effects. 7/10.

Boogeyman, Boogeyman 2, Boogeyman 3. Triple-Feature Back to Back To Back

Boogeyman: My 3rd time watching actually. I like this movie. I dont care what people say. 8/10

Boogeyman 2: Very different than the first. This one is more of a slasher movie. However its Decent my main disappointments were with Paul's death and the Ending. 7.75/10

Boogeyman 3: Sucked. End of Story. Don't watch. 3/10

I watched Magic last night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezkx07HYylo
I was pleasantly surprised by this psychological thriller, great atmosphere, great acting (Anthony Hopkins, Burgess Meredith), funny yet disturbing and the creepy ventriloquist dummy puts it over the top. I give it a 9/10 rating, do yourself a favor and watch this one.

realdealblues 09-14-2012 05:24 AM

I finally saw "Prometheus" last night.

I didn't think it was bad, but I didn't think it was great either. It kept me entertained but didn't keep me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I'd give it a 6.5/10.

Great movie....and as a bonus, a topless Ann-Margret .

You need to watch it as a standalone film, separate from the Alien franchise, to appreciate it a bit more, specially the questions it leaves you with. Think of it as a spin-off.

-------------------------

Watched Prometheus again last night. My 6th or 7th viewing, and I love it a wee bit more again. As for the questions, all answers are given in the movie if watched carefully, IMO. I still say it's a great sci-fi film with a dash of surreality.

Gh0st 09-14-2012 03:46 PM

Thank you me and dara had been wondering what that film was called as I haven't seen it in several years going to have to rewatch soon :)

Dahmer (2002)
This was an ok fictionalised account of Dahmer's antics. Peaked very early on and never really gets as thoroughly insightful as it should be but it has a good try.

Charlie Bartlett (2007)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...e_bartlett.gif

Cute, charming, well-written and well-acted. I'm not necessarily the target demographic, but it was a good coming-of-age/youth-rebellion film. Also I absolutely adore Kat Dennings and Hope Davis. Great casting.

3/5.

The Haunting of Whaley House (2012)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...aley_house.gif

Watched this based on feedback from this forum and I have to say I'm pretty torn:

On the one side, there is some incredibly awful writing, acting, and direction that you would expect from an Asylum B-grade horror film. I almost turned the movie off in the first 20 minutes.

But on the other side, there are some surprisingly good scares (some of the cheap, granted) and a lot of the haunting was well-done. I also really loved the ending.

I'm starting to really enjoy supernatural/haunted house movies so maybe I have a soft spot, but this movie was OK. I guess the fact that there were some merits makes it harder to swallow what was just plain awful about it.

2.5/5.

...

Also, I started watching Snowtown but then got plastered and had to turn it off. Definitely a well-done and incredibly unhappy movie. Hard to say I "liked" what I saw per se, but a very very well-done and gritty movie so far. And the ick factor might just keep me away from finishing it. We'll see.

I really liked that one. Loved the ending too. I'm going to be honest, I do enjoy the franchise; the weakest in my opinion was the second one, but I think it's because we didn't necessarily see anything new per se (plus the haunted pool cleaner was a little much after a while).

The Devil Inside (2012)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...vil_inside.jpg

Going into this movie, based on all of the mediocre to bad reviews I read I thought that I wouldn't like it at all... But to be honest, it really surprised me. I thought that the pacing was well-done (at the outset at least) and that it had both very creepy and incredibly horrifying moments (the contortionists, either real or FX absolutely made my skin crawl).

Biggest complaint, is the same complaint that I heard from Rue Morgue and folks around here: Just when it starts to get really good and exciting, it abruptly ends, and in an incredibly dissatisfying way.

Sure, they direct you to "find updates on the Rossie Files website," but that's just not enough for me.

http://www.therossifiles.com/site/ <-- In case anyone is interested.

I'm really torn here. I'm absolutely fascinated by real-life exorcism and the concept of "exorcism school" (or the fact that it's taught when people go to get their priesthood), so a lot of the scenes that people complained were "boring" I actually found fascinating.

But it ended way too abruptly. And now I feel sooooooooo dissatisfied.

I think I liked it more than the average horror viewer (I really did truly like it), but MAN did the ending irk me. The word "dissatisfied" only scratches the surface in terms of how I feel - This is like cognitive blue balls. I need something to finish me off.

3.25/5.
