Chillerama (2011)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ama_Poster.jpg I would say that this is 1/2 an incredibly enjoyable movie... I thought that the Wadzilla and I Was a Teenage Wearbear segments were utterly spectacular (the latter being my favorite, while the former was my boyfriend's favorite)... I thought that The Diary of Anne Frankenstein was really a missed opportunity and a disappointment and Zom-B-Movie was an OK way to tie them all together... Regardless, all and all, I had a fun time - If you watch the trailer and it appeals to you, then you'll like it; the trailer gives you exactly what to expect (though the movie itself is definitely more gross). Recommended... If you liked the trailer. ;) 3/5. ... The Machinist (2004) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../Machinist.jpg Really strong direction, writing and acting... Christian Bale was a colossally brilliant train wreck to watch... I still can't believe the commitment he put into the role; I was almost distracted at how disgusting he looked. It's really a great psychological drama that takes a few pages from Lynch's book... It's been a while since I've seen a nice absurd "thriller," so I was really taken in by this one... However, unfortunately, while I applaud it for being original, I was disappointed at how neatly it wrapped itself up in the end... There's a point where absurd psychological "twists" simply become cliche, and if you've already seen and enjoyed the likes of Memento, Insomnia, and Spider, then The Machinist is a little predictable and disappointing in that predictability... To be honest, I was hoping that it would go in an entirely absurd dreamscape direction (a la Mulholland Drive), so I was disappointed at the neatly packaged end. Brilliant performance from Bale - Just wish that director Brad Anderson had challenged his audience a little more on this one... ... Spoorloos ("The Vanishing") (1988) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../vanishing.jpg This was my first time seeing this Dutch classic; it's a really gripping, slow-burning character piece about a man who pursues his wife who disappeared three years prior, and the sociopath who committed the crime. What shocked me about this movie was how truly matter-of-fact it was... It didn't use mood music to build tension; all of your emotions, be it fear, frustration, or anger, were truly derived from the writing or the artful acting of our thespians. This was one of those rare films that I just couldn't stop watching because I had to know what happened (very much like our protagonist). Bravo, George Sluizer; you have inextricably bound me to our main character. Doesn't happen very often. Recommended if you want a true character piece. 4/5. |

Classic B-movie 80s stuff. And the cast - Bruce Campbell, Tom Atkins, Richard Roundtree, Robert Z'Dar - fans like me getting a geekgasm! Add to all of it, the experience of watching it on superbly sharp grainy VHS. No words can suffice. After watching Women in Black a couple nights back and Maniac Cop just now, I have a confession to make - I feel right at home when I pop in an 80s film, specially if it's an 80s horror. It's like I have arrived back home after a tour of an unknown city far, far away. The background music, the cinematography of the city the film is based in (specially at night), the 80s fashions, and the whole feel-good feeling...oh yes! Apologies to all fans of contemporary horror, but I love my 80s films to bits. Your films might be brilliant, but mine are...nostalgic. Simply put, I love them. And they are my home. Now to catch up on the sequel. :) |

Sir Campbells role in that movie was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too little concidering he was actually the hero and especially especially because his character was by far the most interesting in that movie. I personally watched it again a couple of nights ago and i actually ended up swithing over to something else about 15 minutes before the end. I frankly thought the storyline just went worse and worse. I remember the sequal being better tho. And more Campbell. :) |
Well put ____V____ you know I definitely back that man :)
Maniac Cop is a classic and one of the best from the era. ------------------ Savage Dawn http://i2.listal.com/image/955189/60...awn-poster.jpg Long lost 80s biker trash with Lance Henriksen goes head to head with William Forsythe. Pretty good watch that was definitely made by the cast which included Karen Black, Richard Lynch and George Kennedy. Dug how it was action the whole way though with no dragged out filler bits. Could've done with a better soundtrack however... the Casio keyboard sounding original score was terrible. The Tower Heist http://www.nextmovie.com/wp-content/...r-Heist420.jpg A bit muddled really in it's balance between being a robbery and a comedy flick. Not overly funny or edge of your seat excitement but entertaining enough if your in the mood for something lightweight and fun. Alan Alda was great. |

I'm not in the mood. Thanks, i'm skipping it. Alan Alda?? Is he still alive? |
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/..._V1_SY317_.jpg This was awful. The kid was the most annoying little bastard i've ever seen and it made me really hard to care at all about what he was doing. There was absolutely no connection between him and his father and the whole mystery with the key didnt feel like a journey for him to deal with his father's death. It just seemed like the kid was obsessive compulsive and needed to know where it went. |

http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/...R00214317_.jpg I really enjoyed this. It doesnt play out like any other baseball or sport movie i've seen but that actually works for it. Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill's performances are pretty good. |

The Innkeepers (2012)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ers_Poster.jpg I have to say that I really enjoyed this one. I think there was actually a lot going on with and between the characters, and it really kept me engaged the whole time. I think this film really shows how much we've come to be conditioned to expect scary set-pieces and jump scenes, but it doesn't have to be like that. It can simply examine the state of being stuck in a rut, working a dead-end job, and the need to grasp on to something to get out of it. I thought West did that in a really interesting and compelling way, and so it didn't bother me that he used a cliche horror template to do it. He's really doing interesting things with the genre, and I'll continue to look forward to his output. |
I agree with your sentiments for the most part fortunato. I thought it was a brilliant film up until the ending which just didn't gel with me.

Forbidden Planet.
Very impressive effects for the day. Leslie Nielsen is good as the square-jawed captain which he would later play completely for parody over and over and Anne Francis is just beautiful. |
Harold & Kumar 3 (or Christmas or whatever)
I liked seeing the characters again, though how much of an asshole Harold had turned into was a bit annoying, all the fun of his character was drained and most of the movie felt like you were putting up with him. There were a few scoffs but really I just didn't find this one all that funny...the storyline was pretty standard fare for something that's been given the Christmas treatment, but where the first two had some weird tripped out scenes, this one was honestly like watching a kids film with swearing. Aside from what I'm sure was meant to be the hilarity of getting a baby high, and the obvious dick scene, this was as though they'd made an attempt to make a much more "family friendly" film, which is fine and all, but really - wrong franchise. I'd say this would have killed the franchise. Just got back from "Safehouse". I liked it for the better part. An OK plot, though nothing we haven't seen before. The dialogue was good, Denzel was solid as always, Reynolds was pretty bland (if only he could channel the intensity his character had in "Smokin Aces" more often). The action and driving scenes were well done, and the fights seemed quite realistic and painful. The overall plot, while I don't have an issue with it, tried a bit too hard to be convoluted so as to throw you off. Like, it's a good movie...just not one I'd anticipate my next viewing of. |

S. Darko
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...op/S_Darko.jpg It was kinda meh. Samantha dies 2 times mid-tangent-universe and the first time the slutty chick sacrifices herself and the second time a nerd kills her. The best scene was when the nerd head butted the town drunk so hard he got knocked out. > D |

Blood and Bone: Decent action/ martial arts movie with Michael Jai White. Cliched story, its pretty much an updated version of A.W.O.L (Van Damme) and there isnt a whole lot of plot. With the exception of Eamonn Walker, who is always entertaining, the characters are fairly one dimensional. That said, its very easy to watch, the fight scenes are good and the story doesnt drag its heels. Worth a watch.
Frostbiten: Swedish vampire flick. Billed as a horror/ comedy I thought it might be good for a few laughs. Was light on comedy and the story just plodded along. Quickly lost interest and even a couple of scenes with talking dogs werent enough to save it. Bill the Kid and the Green Baize Vampire: Absurd musical starring Phil Daniels (Quadrophinia). Rock opera about a snooker match between Billy the Kid (cheeky cockney, Phil Daniels) and The Green Baize Vampire (its not just a name, he really is a vampire). Directed by Alan Clarke, it has to be seen to be believed. |
I started watching Beneath The Darkness. Fell asleep after 20 minutes. Wondering if i should bother finishing it. Anyone else seen it?

...continuing the series. I agree that the sequel is slightly superior to the original in terms of effects and budget, at least. And there's that fantastic police station assault sequence which would put bigger budget actioners to shame. Very entertaining, over-the-top, and complimented by some notable appearances by Charles Napier, Michael Lerner and a very young Danny Trejo. And I must admit - Laurene Landon has superb lips! ;) http://i.fanpix.net/images/orig/g/3/...a7j6vsatjc.jpg |
i watched a lot of movies this weekend
i watch the woman in black, i went to the theater for my bday, my dad took me, and at first he wanted to choose the movie, i stood up for myself cause he always chooses, and it was my bday after all. he doesnt like horror movies.. i would of probably chosen to see the phantom menace in 3d but with me only having sight in one eye that was out of the question. i choose the woman in black. http://moviebuzzers.com/wp-content/u...ack-Poster.jpg now although it wasn't that scary, it had a lot of cheap scares. i thought it was a pretty decent movie. my dad he hated it... lol i also watched last night the girl next door http://www.nzbmovieseeker.com/images/poster/0830558.jpg omg this is an insane movie, i have the book and it's just as bad. and being based on true events too! i looked up what really had happen and the real woman looks like a real witch. my moms a horror freak too so she watched it with me, she was covering her eyes during some scenes. i didn't but was still shocked about what happen. sad story though. i also watched the ward http://images.moviepostershop.com/th...1010703324.jpg another movie my mom and i watched, i was kind of confused throughout this movie, and couldn't piece it together. the ending through me for a loop. i actually wasn't expecting it. mom and i watched one more movie was the a&e mini series bag of bones. i didn't get to see it in its original air so we found it on instant netflix http://www.liljas-library.com/img/ot...movietiein.jpg i love stephen kings books, and the adaptaions his books get made into. i think they generally do a good job. i hadn't read bag of bones yet, but watched this and was shocked and a bit saddened. i think this shows part of kings softer more drama side which i like. id say the one that's scared me the most is IT. lol i think that about cover's it for this weekend of movies. i've been watching a lot of investigation discovery lately where the real horror is. :) |
The Ghostly Galleon (1974)This is actually the third Blind Dead Film (Tombs Of The Blind Dead, Return Of The Evil Dead and fourth still to watch-Night Of The Seagulls) and was a HUGE improvement on Return Of The Evil Dead which was just about having a high body count and seemed to copy scenes from the first movie of the Blind Dead. Excellently creepy and gothicly atmospheric with long drawn-out scenes that truly heighten the horror all around. There may be some plot holes but this is of the standard of the first film with again some breathtakingly gothic scenes of the Blind Dead in this scenario and the ending bodes very well for the next film very excited to see that at some point soon.

The House Of Whipcord (1975) Excellent UK horror directed by Pete Walker (Frightmare, House Of The Long Shadows, Schizo). I was surprised at how effective this was and quite believable of the time it represents. There was no campness here instead it was tough, harsh and gritty-looking forward to The Flesh and Blood Show next.
