Vampires (2010): Fake documentary about a Belgium vampire community. Quiet dark in tone, with a decent slice of dry humour. Not really a blood and guts type of vampire flick though, although there are a few decent feeding scenes thrown in for good measure. Little bit slow and the ending drags a bit, but thought it was pretty well done and well worth a watch for any fans of vampire flicks and/ or fake documentaries. (Belgium/ French with subtitles).

Sculpt: Thanks for the documentary recommendations! Have you seen Inside Deep Throat? Really interesting (and also very sad). Good call on the TEDtalks shoutout; I like Lifehacks.
The Hubby just watched all of The Avengers animated series. No idea if it was good but it held his interest. ;) ... Quote:
... Still switching between Doctor Who and Breaking Bad. Interesting combination. ... Also: Not sure if you guys are Podcast-listeners, but one of my favorites is Filmspotting SVU: Streaming Video Unit. Good source for reviews on all things streaming, Netflix and otherwise. |
I've seen that Vampires film. and recommended it when it was On Demand. It's really good. with a very dry sense of humor.

Yes, LifeHacks is great! Especially liked 'Your body language shapes who you are' and 'How to start a movement'. TEDtalks has really good stuff. One of the best and funniest ones I've seen is 'power of vulnerability', which is in the TEDTalks: Sex, Secrets & Love. Paul Zak: Trust, Morality and Oxytocin is really good from that set too. |
Yes! The Body Language TEDtalk was fantastic and really inspiring. I'll check out the other one you mentioned too.

Noticed a couple of British flicks on Netflix that some of you might not have had the chance to see yet;
Harold's Going Stiff: I'm sure I've mentioned this before somewhere, but not sure if its been recommended anywhere in this thread, either way its a quality movie. Unique and incredibly endearing take on the zombie genre. Hard to call it a horror as its much more drama with a slice of comedy. Basically about an elderly guy who is suffering from Onset Rigours Disease (he's turning into a zombie) and his carer. Beautiful story about their friendship and loneliness, well worth a watch. Just don't expect a full on zombie flick with blood, guts and action. Four Lions: Hilarious comedy about an inept, British born, terrorist cell aspiring to become suicide bombers. Obviously a controversial theme that is going to make for uncomfortable viewing for a lot of people, but its all handled incredibly well. Not sure how the movie would translate to an international audience, but I think its the type of movie that if you aren't laughing after watching for 10 or 15 minutes then its probably not for you. Probably one of the best British comedies in recent years. That said, this is more of a tentative recommendation as I really don't think it will be for everyone. |
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I'll be sure to check them out. Not sure which one I'll check out first but once I watch them I'll let you know what I thought of them. =)

Blackfish is streaming now
Haven't seen it but hear its a must see http://d1zhdulzy5lsh5.cloudfront.net...200_294_85.jpg |
Blackfish was very good. Very sad, but very good.
|
Just finished watching Blackfish myself, quality doc... I gotta be honest though I am left feeling a little naïve and incredibly disappointed. For some reason I assumed the US had already stopped these types of shows. Tragic.

not much of a plot but a real grindhouse kinda feel
|
I just watched Kill Em All. I never heard of it until I saw it on Netflix. The cover looks kinda dumb so I almost avoided it until I noticed a name... Gordon Liu. I couldn't believe it. That name probably means nothing to most of you, but anyone who is a fan of old school kung fu also knows that Liu Gordon is the king of it. So I gave it a chance and it satisfied my martial arts craving. This ain't fine art, it won't win awards, but if you wanna see some heads bashed in with good fight choreography and the main man Liu back in action then this delivers.

Sightseers is available. I liked it a lot.
|
Really enjoyed Sightseers too, well worth a watch.

Devil's Pass
Oh no...not another "found footage" film but this one surprised me.....worth a watch |
Yeah, I'm curious about that one.
Oddities: San Francisco is On Instant. Love these show. So fascinating! I want to work in one of those stores and know everything about the bizarre and macabre. :danger: |
I meant to post this a couple months ago but never got around to it.
Resolution was pretty good if you like indie, mumblecore, subtle meta-horror (not plainly spelled out like Cabin in the Woods or Behind the Mask), and perhaps some tongue in cheek (or maybe not). I think ChronoGrl might find it interesting. |
Yes!! Resolution was a great little gem! Loved it. So odd and perfect in its absurdity and smart too. Reminds me a bit of yellowbrickroad and The Corridor.

Ninja 2

I'm guessing they aren't all first time viewings? Kind've jealous if they are though, some good flicks there. |

It's too bad about Twixt... I've heard such poor things about it but I'm still so damn intrigued. Also too bad about Killer Inside; been curious to see more of Casey Affleck). |

Curious to see what you think of a few of the other flicks though. Y Tu Mama Tambien is quality and I think you'll find Existenz interesting. The rest are all varying degrees of watchable to good. Only one I haven't seen is Intouchable , and I'm only like halfway through season 2 of Parks and Recreation so got a ton of catching up to do. |

Twixt is an interesting watch. it won't change your life - but i didn't regret seeing it ..

But it's Coppola … so there's no way i'm not going to see it .. |
yeah...really torn with Twixt
its been on my list for awhile but with all the shitty reviews, Ive been avoiding it. |
i never let reviews disuade me from seeing anything ..
almost every film is worth seeing - even the 'bad' ones |
For Mumblecore fans, Drinking Buddies is available on Netflix.
Also, All The Boys Love Mandy Lane is available. I liked this movie with the exception of the end. Amber Heard is stunning. |
