March Break is next week, 9 days off school (inc. weekends)...hopefully I wont have to work very much because I plan to just sit back and power through DVDs all week. I already have a bunch that I need to see, but Im thinking about hitting up Blockbuster and grabbing some "must-sees" that Ive missed out on.

Anyway, Saving Private Ryan for me.

Round 1: Match 14

Rocky Horror Picture Show
http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
One of the very few musicals I like. Crazy, funny, occasionally really hot (Tim Curry in drag, mmmmm), and has one of the biggest fanbases of any movie that I know of.

VS

Platoon
http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Oliver Stone's made a lot of overblown and pretentious clunkers in his time. This is not one of them. Arguably the best vietnam movie ever made, including Apocalypse Now. Strong performances all around, tightly directed, never heavy-handed, great combat scenes, and a really intense village scene.

Round 1: Match 15

Goodfellas
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Some call it the greatest mob movie ever. While I think Godfather is better, it's damn close between the two. Even then, it's still one of the greatest movies of all time, and one of Scorsese's best.

VS

Schindler's List
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
The best holocaust movie, Steven Spielberg's best movie, formerly on my top 10 list. This is one of the most emotionally affecting movies I've ever seen. I'd put it up there with the likes of Requiem for a Dream (though not quite as high as that), with a nice grey-area protagonist and an evil 'villain,' and Ben Kingsly giving a hell of a performance as the only really good one out of the main characters. Excellent movie.

Ouch....

The Departed
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...c0eb0110.L.jpg
Scorsese's brilliant remake of the Hong Kong classic Infernal Affairs. IMO his best work since Goodfellas, and superior even to IA. Great ensemble cast, highlighted by Wahlberg's brief but intense performance as Dignam.

VS

A Clockwork Orange
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
This one actually makes me kinda sad. McDowell could've had a great career. If...., A Clockwork Orange, but then he was in Caligula. Anyways, Kubrick gives this a weird and unique feel, making it one of those movies that's tough to fit in a particular genre, not unlike Pulp Fiction. Good supporting cast, but the thing that makes the movie is McDowell's scary performance as Alex.
