- It tries too hard to be artsy. I hate art films that are too pretentious and not self-aware. "Garden State" is a movie that ISN'T like that. It too is an art film, but it manages to skip all the bullshit and just be a MOVIE.

Why Juno tries too hard, and ends up sucking:

"It began with a chair." - first line.
What the fuck began with a chair? They had sex on a couch. This line is an example of being "artsy", but in all honesty, it means absolutely NOTHING. Terrible writing.

- Walking around with Sunny D.
- Completely retarded music.
- Orange Tic-Tacs.
- Hamburger Phone.
- "It ended with a chair."

Actually.... you can see the chair they do it in pretty clearly in the beginning of the movie, hence the line. But I can understand your not paying attention since you seemingly went into this movie prepared to hate it.

But fine, I will not argue. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. From what I see, hating a movie on the basis that almost everyone is raving about it is in nowadays.

EDIT : Gotta admit though, the music is a bit overbearing at times. ;)

Looks like I'm not seeing this movie then, if only to protest lame artsy films like this.

EDIT: as an aside, I think Michael Cera better start expanding his horizons in acting a bit more. Below is a sum up of all the roles he has played:

Arrested Development: Awkward teen

Superbad: Awkward teen

Juno: Awkward teen

I like the kid, but he seems about as versatile as Keanu Reeves.

Hey Keanu has diversity,

Confused Moron in Teen movie

Confused Moron in Sci Fi movie

Confused Moron in Thriller/Horror movie...... etc,etc.........

I, too, do not want to argue... but you are incorrect. I was very excited to see this movie, I had high hopes, and this was my movie highlight for the whole week, next to Atonement. And then when I walked out, I was like, "What... the ... fuck.... was that shit??" Easily the worst film of 2007 for me, easily.

I mean, really, it's like Knocked Up for the kids who were too young to see Knocked Up... but Knocked Up is 1,000 times better, yet there is no Oscar recognition... and Juno gets the best picture nom. It baffles me.

The difference, my friend, is that Juno has heart. :p

BTW, why the hell is it called "Juno" anyways?

I liked both films... Anyway, I think the reason Juno is nominated for best pic is because it's a good film, and the director is Ivan Reitman's son.
