The Exorcist franchise leads 5-2 over the Sherlock Holmes franchise!!

more votes needed to decide this one...

Shazbut 07-01-2007 02:33 AM

The Exorcist I and III (pretend II doesnt exist!).

But hail to Jeremy Brett - the last Sherlock - he was bloody fantastic - gave his soul to the character :D

Kane_Hodder 07-01-2007 04:28 AM

I have not seen many of the Sherlock Holmes films, and I am sure some of them like the Hammer Horror classic of Lee and Cushing shown here are masterpieces.
But it is kind of hard to go against the Exorcist films, simply because they share a bigger legacy.
The Exorcist films.

The Exorcist ... rolls head ... then spews green vomit!!!

The Exorcist films.

POINT OF ORDER:
I'm sorry, I must remark on this statement. Regardless of which films you like better, few characters share a "bigger legacy" than Sherlock Holmes. One of the most popular characters worldwide for over 100 years there are groups form,ed just to celebrate Holmes existance, dozens of scholarly works disecting the Sherlock Holmes stories, books and films taking off where Conan Doyle left off. Doyle himself tried to kill off the character but public outcry was so vehement he had to bring it back.

The Exorcist films are great. But a bigger legacy than Sherlock Holmes? Not even in the same league.

My apologies for the interuption of the tournament- I just couldn't let that statement pass.

Doc Faustus 07-01-2007 09:12 AM

Kevin Smith. And I'm with you, Neverending. Holmes has been around forever and has inspired generations of imitators.

Kane_Hodder 07-01-2007 10:29 AM

This might come as a surprise to you but I totally agree with your thoughts and sentiments. Sherlock Holmes is indeed unparalleled in his legacy.
But my friend, this is a film franchise tournament, and for all money, not many Sherlock Holmes films have come close to creating and maintaining the film legacy that the original Exorcist film did.
I have not seen many Rathbone/Bruce films, although I did see the Lee/Cushing adaptation of Hound of the Baskervilles, and my judgements were based on the films of Sherlock Holmes only, considering the voting in this tournament.
If most of the films of the marvellous detective would have been huge, I am sure the Exorcist franchise would have lost that match to a huge shutout.
That being said, my vote in this one is for the Jay & Silent Bob films.
