But lately I got a sms & e-mail from my internet provider & they just informed me that (to ensure a minimum level of smooth connection to its all users) if I download more than 30 GB in a month then they'll slow down the speed drastically to 128 kbps for the rest of that month!! That sucks! as I've already downloaded more than 22 GB this month so far.:(

Super 8 (2011)

http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...hdc/SUPER8.jpg

One of the best films of the year so far, IMO. Loved the 80's set up & loved its beautiful & simple story that delivered a fantastic homage to Spielberg's 2 best creations to date. But the interesting thing is while watching & enjoying the film last night, I cared pretty less for a major element of the story...the alien. I really wasn't that much bothered about it...when it'll show up next time on the screen or why it's acting so crazy or what would happen to it later. The thing is the heart of the movie is it's assembling of excellent bunch of child actors who totally carried the film all the way. It's not the alien; it is the character of Joe Lamb and the other kids in the cast who delivered the magic & kept the nostalgic momentum throughout the film. Kudos to them for their marvelous job.

Quarantine 2: Terminal
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/...er-535x792.jpg

It follows the same basic formula as the first except without the found footage technique which may be a good idea since that genre has become over saturated. However i feel it is a part of what made the first one as good as it was. I like that it is going on its own instead of just continuing to remake REC but if they're shooting for a franchise i just dont see what else they can do from this point on and still make it fresh and exciting. Besides that, the characters were annoying and the acting was pretty bad. Good effort but a bad job in the end. I prefer REC 2.

johann 08-13-2011 01:44 PM

A Nightmare on Elm Street, the remake. Damn you HBO for have this movie on and me being to lazy to turn it off!!

ferretchucker 08-13-2011 04:26 PM

Incredible. I thought the first part was a little fast but after awhile i just didnt care. This movie is awesome.
SPOILERS:At the "Damn Dirty Ape" part everyone in the theater started laughing until Caesar screamed "NO!" Everyone was instantly quiet. I havent seen a reaction like that in the theaters in a long time.END OF SPOILERS

The Deaths of Ian Stone (2007)

Never really got into any of the the After Dark stuff...unless I'm forgetting something (which is quite possible, heh) I'm pretty sure this is the first one I've actually got around to checking out. Glad I did though...pretty cool movie.

Every review I've seen tends to liken it to a mix of Groundhog Day/Dark City/Jacob's Ladder/Butterfly Effect/The Matrix (take your pick), and even though it did obviously take inspiration from a bunch of different places, I still found it surprising original compared to a lot of modern horror. The concept kind of fell apart toward the end, (SPOILER: Really would have liked something a little better than the same ol' "love conquers all" cliché.) but overall I thought it was really well-executed.

The acting could have used some work here and there - the main villain chick really brought down the whole final act, and even though I thought the CGI monsters were pretty damn cool, they got a little overdone by the end. I had fun with it though, not a bad movie at all.

Saw that^^ Thanx for pointing it out, it was nice!

Saw The Hills Have Eyes remake once again, but I still don't like it. it takes 50-60 mins before the movie really starts and it's pretty stupid and boring except for the last couple mins.
The 2nd was better, but the breed-thing was stupid and ruined it imo.

If.... (1968)

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h.../if-poster.jpg

My personal favorite film of all time, If takes place in a British boarding school, where Mick Travis (played by Malcolm McDowell, who is fantastic as usual) and his fellow "degenerates" revolt against the "whips" (seniors of the school who dominate their classmates) and the authorities of the school.

If is a very fascinating and unique film. The style is most noteworthy in the way the film switches between black and white to color, seemingly for no reason.

A very dark and surreal film, highly recommended.

Days of Heaven (1978)

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...Heaven_US1.jpg

Days of Heaven tells the story of Bill and Abby a couple posing as brother and sister in beginning of the century America who travel south to Texas to escape poverty. They find work in the fields and harvest crops, on the farm of a wealthy man who falls in love with Abby and sets off a chain of violence and jealousy.

Directed in a visually stunning way by Terrence Malick, Days of Heaven has some of the most breathtaking poetic cinematography in film history.

-9/10

Down by Law (1986)

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...277551020A.jpg

One of the first films I've seen by Jim Jarmusch, I was very pleasantly surprised by this little gem.

The story is pretty simple, three men (two of which were set up, and one of which murdered a man in self defense) are sent to prison in Louisiana, and plan to escape to freedom.

A very idiosyncratic ensemble (Tom Waits, John Lurie, and Roberto Benigni), a very minimalist approach, and the melancholy mood throughout make this film a very interesting viewing experience.

I heard McDowell's performance in this is why Kubrick chose him for A Clockwork Orange. I'm gonna have to check it out.

Beetlejuice (1988)

:)

>>: A-

Blitz (2011)

Pretty average cop thriller where nothing much happens actually.

>>: C

Necronomicon: Book of the Dead (1993)

Pretty solid Lovecraftian Horror anthology. Liked it.

>>: A-

Closed for the Season (2010)

The idea was decent as it centers around a forgotten-abandoned amusement park and even it had several scenes shot at the long-closed Chippewa Lake Park-Ohio, and featured some of the park's derelict attractions as backgrounds. But this low budget horror feature is quite lengthy (almost 2 hrs!) with a kind of repetitive materials and that made it pretty dull overall.

"The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" (1962)
-John Wayne, James Stewart, Vera Miles

Plot: IMDB
A senator, who became famous for killing a notorious outlaw, returns for the funeral of an old friend and tells the truth about his deed.

Phantom's Review: One of the true greats in movie history. This film is damn near perfect. Acting, direction, story and action. This film has it all. John Ford's last GREAT film. A classic..

horrorzack 08-16-2011 09:49 PM

urban legend: 6/10. http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/...anLegendBQ.jpg A vastly underrated movie. The acting was decent but the goth chick was a terrible actor and the killer in the backseat kill was too obvious and the script was somewhat lacking. The kills other then the killer in the backseat kill were very well done and interesting. overall not the bad movie critics always say it is.

I thought that the reason why they switched from black and white to color was that they ran out of money... The color scenes were shot first, then they ran out of funds and shot everything else in black and white.

It was one of my dad's favorite films of all time - he was the one that told me that story. Been a while since I've seen it.

Maybe, who knows. In an article I was reading it said that the cinematographer wasn't able to guarantee color consistency in a lot of the church scenes, so the director decided to switch back and forth throughout the film for aesthetic reasons.
