The worst of the series. This was just terrible. The acting, the dialogue, the writing...its all bad. The movie focuses so much on the 3D and just completely ignores the story which is why i hate 3D movies. The deaths in this one are also really stupid and unrealistic and i know that the deaths are supposed to be over the top but in the others they always seemed plausible. In this one stuff happens for apparently no reason. This is the only one i havent liked. Hopefully the fifth will be better.

I told ya bro. :D

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

In a lot of ways this could be the worst major movie I've seen in a very long time - the script ranges from painfully cheesy at best to nothing short of pandering at worst - and even though the cast list is phenomenal, most of their talents go completely wasted.

But, on the other hand...this could be one of the best movies I've seen this year. Normally I'm not big on CGI, but the motion capture work here is stunning - Andy Serkis's performance as Caesar was absolutely breathtaking. I can't even begin to describe how impressed I was not just with the effects, but with every movement, every look, every expression...everything came through with such an incredible power that the flaws of the movie just seemed to disappear.

On top of that, once the real action scenes get started...nothing else really matters. I'll admit that I'm a sucker for large-scale destruction, but only when its done well - and believe me when I say that this is some of the best I've seen.

I was genuinely surprised at how much I loved this movie...went in expecting very, very little and left thoroughly impressed. If you can look past the flaws, which aren't too difficult to forget, this one shouldn't be missed.

It sounds like a silly premise but its actually a very serious movie about a man going through a mental breakdown during a depression. If this movie doesnt get Mel Gibson's career back on track i don't know what will. His performance is amazing. He puts so much emotion into every scene he is in even when talking through the puppet. This is an incredible movie and anyone who lets Gibson's indiscretions keep them from seeing the movie is missing out.

We Are What We Are:

Awesome movie. Very brooding and intense. Not your typical cannibal movie. It's not without it's flaws though. Spoiler: It was quite unbelievable that they would suddenly forget about Gustavo. Of course if he didn't escape then the whole last quarter of the movie wouldn't have happened, but still I thought it was a very weak way to progress the story. Even with such a gaping plot hole, I loved this movie. It is quite simple, but highly effective.

this movie disturbed me quite a bit, plus i was eating dinner while it was on.

Strigoi (2009)

http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...goi-poster.jpg

Strigoi is about Vlad, a failed med student who returns to his small Romanian hometown and ends up in the middle of a murder mystery. Vlad investigates a mysterious death in his grandfather's village that raises questions about land ownership in the community that somewhat beautifully captures a universal tone of village politics. The trail points to ex-communist Consantin Tirescu and his wife, but when Vlad confronts them, he discovers that the richest landowners in the village have become something other than a living human being.
But the thing is thought there are some certain horror elements but this isn;t actually a horror film at all. It is more of a slow burn dark comedy that's currently facing marketing mishandling; as far I've noticed the movie has been pitched as a vampire flick and when people will pick it up for that reason then they will be sorely disappointed for sure.
If you have any kind of appreciation for a fun and interesting story embodied in a well-crafted & well-acted film, then you should give it a try. Other than that skip it.

Red Hill

I was a bit mixed about this, the Villan was great, but the movie fell into the trap a lot of Aussie movies do with to many flashbacks, just not great storytelling.

A bit more of a mix in his kills would have been apreciated as well. to many guns.

5/10

Green Lantern
It's liked it, some very impressive effects.
Minor complaints were that I think Ryan Reynolds was miscast as Hal Jordan, and the use of constructs vs "firing green energy" was kind of lacking.
The cast was ok, and it served as an alright (if not chronologically unusual) origin movie. It was enjoyable.

"Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes" (2011)
-James Franco

Plot: IMDB

An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

Phantom's Review: Sci-Fi fans rejoice! "Planet Of The Apes" is back and it's kicking ass! Terrific, well made origin film. Great FX. well written (and sorta plausible) story, fine acting (Andy Serkis as Cesar is amazing) and some damn good action scenes Far, far Superior to that God awful "re-imaging" of the original film made 10 years ago. This is an "Apes" worthy of the franchise. Can't wait for the next one.

Don’t Let Him In (2011)

http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...ntLetHimIn.jpg

Though the title may sounds like a sequel to the 2010 Matt Reeves film Let Me In but this is a low budget indie Britt horror where two couples spend a weekend in the country and become potential victims of a serial killer known as The Tree Surgeon. Not bad but could have been interesting if they could punched up the suspense levels somewhat more in the middle. The ending was a disappointment also.

La herencia Valdemar II: La sombra prohibida aka The Valdemar Legacy II: The Forbidden Shadow (2010)

http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...dowCthulhu.jpg

If I consider only the visuals & special effects part of the film then this is a pretty decent watch indeed but the problem is there was a clear rush in the development of the story where it seems they wanted to tell so much more in a limited time period. But the funny thing is this a sequel of The Valdemar Legacy and in that 1st part they already wasted a good amount of reel in portraying the back story of the Valdemar family which they could shown in a 5 to 10 minutes flashback rather than making a complete movie-part out of it.
Anyway, the sad thing is they had a fantastic premise & a decent bunch of cast to make a great film based on Lovecraft's universe...specially when the plot elements include Necronomicon to Mythos of Cthulhu aka Outer Gods and Great Old Ones! Although the overall package may let down the original fans of the Rhode Island's great writer but I think it's worth a watch at least...the Cthulhu attack in the final segment was pretty entertaining, IMO.

Super 8. It was like a mix between E.T. and the Goonies. I really enjoyed it - the child acting was superb, and the direction was great. My only issue was that, whilst the "slow reveal" by Abrams is almost Jaws-worthy in it's suspense, the eventual "monster" is uninspired and the same thing we've been seeing for the last 5-6 years. Where are the Gigers of this generation of film making?!

Yeah I caught this the other night and felt the same way. Great stuff but it kinda fizzed out towards the end. Quite the nostalgia trip for me.

Despite not coming from that era, even watching this film I got a sense of that nostalgia. It seemed to capture the time very well. But yeah, I agree with you about the ending - although the stoner character did make the last act pretty entertaining.
