GODS AND MONSTERS (1998). Great film detailing the last days of James Whale, director of FRANKENSTEIN (****1/2), BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (*****), THE INVISIBLE MAN (*****) and THE OLD DARK HOUSE (***-not really too crazy about this but the wife loves it). Wonderful turns by Ian McKellan, Brendan Fraser and Lynn Redgrave (who deserved an Oscar for this, in my opinion).
While it plays a little loose with the facts, still very much seeing and would make a good companion piece to ED WOOD (1994). ****1/2 |
