Agreed. Couldn't have had more fun. Godzilla take note, if you're gonna be all dark then at least handle the important topic with care (nuclear fear and responsibility), OR just have a hell of a lot of fun.

'Kong: Skull Island' (2017)

Plot: IMDB
A diverse team of scientists, soldiers and adventurers unite to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific, as dangerous as it is beautiful. Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and nature. As their mission of discovery becomes one of survival, they must fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong.

Phantom's Review: Let me say right at the beginning, I liked this movie. It delivers everything it promised. Decent acting, great special FX , monster fights and lots of big dumb action. If anything the film reminds less of the original film and more of the Japanese Kong movies. Leave your brain at the door and have a good time.

Star Wars: Rogue One (2016)
B/C
Not bad, but didn't think it was great or anything.
It all seemed a bit forced and felt a bit like watching another one of Disney's superhero flicks.
The female lead did a solid job. I think we might see more of her in the future.

Rob Zombie's 31, which, to be polite, was not at all to my liking. I seem to either love RZ's stuff (Lords of Salem, House of 1,000 Corpses) or hate it, like this one.

It was a slow day and I have an unlimited card at the local Odeon.

Thumb resize.

No surprises here. The CGI has that bizarre shimmer/sheen that most films seem to carry these days, the beast in particular looks uncanny and moves too fast for his size. It adds very little new and what it does add is plagued with painful exposition. None of the new songs are remotely hummable and pretty much all of the performances are weak.

Josh Gad is enjoyable enough as the (controversially) gay LeFou, with glimmers of depth added to his character, including a conscience.
