Thought the last half was quite alright and well made. The first half was... well, boring yes. Less talking, more action please. |
"Season of the witch" 7/10
Fairly entertaining fantasy flick. In the middle of the movie i was sure this was the beginning of a new franchise. I could just picture the sequals. Season Of The Wolf, Season Of The Vampire, etc. Nevertheless. The final narration was godawfull lame and unnecessary. Made me think of Blacks last line in Jacksons King Kong. Yes... it was that bad. |
Let me see over the weekend I have seen:
Paranormal Activity 2 Mosquitoman Megamind And not long ago me and my hubby watched The Last Airbender. |
Mum and Dad (2008) this was quite a grisly and an uncomfortable watching experience but it was very well done-very gritty and effectively unpleasant. Worth a look
Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) This was more warped than I expected. Its a little bit cheesy but pretty enjoyable. Xtro 2 (1990) Not a patch on the all out weirdness of the original. But quite gruesome and gory. Not the best sci fi horror out there but a worthy sequel nonetheless. Makes a bit of sense-look forward to watching the third film soon. |
Paranormal Activity 2
I felt like this needed an extra 20 minutes or so. All the overt action comes rushing in so fast at the end it felt a bit forced. I wanted more buildup. |
Dog Eat Dog (2008). This Colombian thriller gives a rare cinematic peak into the streets of Colombia, where the stories that we hear of are brought to life for our horror.
The story was a crafty little number. There is a lot going on here, and by its denouement, all of the loose ends are nicely tied up, all pretty like, and then tossed into a vicious pool of blood. There is even a creepy little supernatural element that really pushes this one close to the edge. The characters are fun in their polarities, happy sociopaths mingling and bitter thugs, a love-crazed crank caller and the scummy hotel clerk all interact with commendable enmity, all very entertaining. The acting was pretty solid. Marlon Mareno holds his stoic and bitter character until the end. But somehow the audience still comes to cheer for him. Óscar Borda is perfect as the uber-tough guy whose life is out of his control. Blas Jaramillo overacts a bit for the film, but coming from a theatrical background makes this not only acceptable but even part of the fun. The rest of the cast is are perfectly supportive and never a crack does show. The direction was laudable, especially when we learn that this was Carlos Moreno's debut. The photography really gave the feeling that you were right there alongside the antagonists (they really were bad guys all of them), sweltering in the heat. The camera moment was intimidating, suggesting that violent tension was so furiously bubbling just under the surface that a bloodletting maneuver might erupt at any time. The Afro-American score was awesome on its own accord, percussive beats that kept things moving and our pulses racing. At its finish, more than anything else, you'll have that privileged feeling that you just visited, or should I say escaped, a land where where only the titular types survive, and for long either. d |
I liked Paranormal Activity 2, but it did not feel as real as the first movie.
Anyway I just watched Blame a Spanish film (La Culpa) I liked it, it was very slow and moody, however at the end the phasing sort of got off for me, there is something called to slow to. |
""Triggerman" (2010)
Terrance Hill, Paul Sorvino Plot : IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1726622/plotsummary) A drifter (Hill) comes back to the town of Holy Sand and wants to help the locals by building a hospital, but needs money. In the sequel to Doc West (not necessary but helpful to watch first), Doc West (Hill) is still in high demand as a doctor. After half the town gets hurt in a bar fight he realizes its time to open up a hospital. He turns to the only way he knows in order to make money, a poker tournament. When an evil Dutchman rides in to town, (to compete and stop West from getting the money he needs) West must decide what is more important, the money or love. Phantom's Review: Basically "Doc West Part 2". This film picks up immediately after the original film and follows "Doc" on a new adventure This film suffers from the same flaws as the original, lousy acting from the supporting players and very light on action. But it has all of the same good things too. Fine performances from leads Terrance Hill and Paul Sorvino, beautiful cinematography and some fun humor. A low budget film to be sure, but it's not awful. Its a decent little movie. I wish it had been better, but I have seen much much worse. |
Zombies of Mass Destruction.
mediocre. |
a different kind of war movie
I enjoyed it you can too....if you have Netflix streaming |
As far from a horror movie as it gets, but me and hubby watched Dr Strange last night. It is a cartoon. I include it here because it do have monsters, and some of them rather gruesome, and for a cartoon it was rather dark. Anyway I will take monsters and magick no matter if it was intended to scare me or not. It was a good movie.

"Sucker Punch" 6/10
Visually a 10. But the story as well as direction left much to be desired. Most of the story was actually in the intro. The rest of the movie was just repetitive to the point where it became dull. I even managed to fall asleep during one of the many shooting scenes. |
Battle Royale: Special Edition: I finally got around to watching this. Honestly I'm not quite sure why this movie is rated so highly. It's good, but way, way, way too fricking long. About half way through I started looking at my clock. It's an interesting enough story and the acting is fine, but it just drags way too much for my liking. Plus there's just so many kids involved that I really didn't care for the majority of them, making their deaths pretty pointless and time consuming.

Insidious- 8.5/10
Scream 4- 9/10 |
Tony:London Serial Killer (2009) At first I thought what is the point of this film but then I saw a documentary about it which explained things for me. It is very gritty and shows the grimness of life without meaning or purpose but I don't know if I would recommend it or not an odd film nonetheless.

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005). The opening credits/scene pretty much guarantee that this is going to be a great movie, which is lucky because things get confusing rather quickly. This film feels real because its characters are so perfectly imperfect. It also makes a strong statement about humanity without ever feeling preachy. It instead lets the audience come to its own conclusion.
The story is complex without being unrealistic. Though it does become ostensibly discombobulated, patience will serve its audience well and all questions and confusions are answered with aplomb. This is a story about the boredom that is bred in a boring town and the complexities that develop by its bored citizens. Of course it is one of these bored characters that instigates the drama to follow, but all of our various players contribute in their own unique and problematic ways. This is definitely a character driven drama, but these characters, whether vain shallow or complex, are all developed with their depth of character in mind whilst amazingly coming off as being as real as can be. We deplore their shenanigans but concurrently understand their plight. It is also a story whose denouement seems easily guessed but becomes perfectly bent just when we think we've got it all figured out. And lastly, as the story unfolds, we are privy to the personal revelations that our characters must undertake, but how these revelations play out is subtle, and therefore marvelous, in application. The acting was incredible. With multiple characters with their own demons to convey, they all accomplish their roles with aplomb. Tommy Lee Jones was absolutely amazing in his role of a man on the edge of insanity, and we can almost feel his arms swinging wildly as he tries to keep from falling off. Barry Pepper is just as solid in a role that brings unimaginable depth to what seems a shallow man. Dwight Yoakam is delightful as the cop we want to hate but whose comedic shortcomings only serve to draw us in. With Tommy Lee also behind the camera in his cinematic debut, and with such a complex story, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada seems an overambitious project that will prove rife with problems. But Tommy rises to the challenge and has created a movie worthy of the term movie magic. The photography wisely took full advantage of its environs in such a way that these people's stupid mistakes seem all the more believable in such a barren land. The score was just right, always there in full support of the scene. The editing was complex but ultimately sublime. At this wonderful modern western's conclusion, even when are fully satisfied with our 121 minute investment, that last bit of dialog fully revels in the moment of personal revelation that this character has undertaken. d |

Really enjoyed this. It was pretty much as I expected so had some good twists and the bits slagging off remakes/rebootswas funny.. http://www.colesmithey.com/.a/6a00d8...d7b1970c-250wi Very strange and a bit too disjoined for me but there were some fantastic bits and it ended on a really strong note.. http://www.movieprop.com/tvandmovie/reviews/reddawn.jpg Just as amazing as always. C Thomas Howell steals the show as the best Wolverine and its great to see Ron O'Neil and William Smith too...Makes me pround to be American.. |
There was nothing good on TV last night, so I watched the first half of Storm of the Century.

Scream 2 - Probably my personal favourite of the series, I like how every one of these is a piss-take on one type of film - it's like scary movie needn't have really existed in this form, they did it already.
Decent "true sequel", yet still enough tension-comedy ratio. Scream 3 - In all honesty I never liked this one, from the overall "too much comedy" vibe, to the characters personalities in numerous cases completely changing, to the annoying Gale Weathers clone...to the quite ludicrous motivation for the killer. Watching it again trying not to judge was difficult. It was ok I suppose. Bought a few interesting things to the table like the mother apparitions, the killer posing as others etc. So off to see Scream 4 today. Hoping, it's maybe a little better than the 3rd. ...I doubt the whole "new trilogy" theory, but we'll see. Also going to watch the Burn Notice prequel movie "The fall of Sam Axe" later on today. |

Loooved the dream/nightmare with the mother in the window. That was actually creepy as hell. Would like to see much more of that in the future Screams. But what are the odds.. |
Troll Hunter - Visually it was really cool, and I was entertained the whole time. The story didn't really make much sense (why did the government guy not just take their camera when it's supposedly a giant government cover-up) but it was fun.
Hanna - Super disappointing, it was a bad action movie disguised as an art film. Which basically just made it a slow and boring action movie with a weak story. Cate Blanchett's accent was all over the place. |

And why the hell did the guy holding the camera keep turning off the nightvision, so neither he or we could see a thing?? Moron.. |
Scream 4.
I liked it better than Scream 3, so that's my expectations met and exceeded. Though I will say without spoiling anything, I found the killers motivation this time around just...bottom of the barrel. It was decent, fans of the series shouldn't be too let down. |
Godzilla & Mothra: Battle for Earth
I love Godzilla :D |
I watched Feast 1,2 and 3 this morning :)
Hah I always have a good laugh at the end |
Hell Comes To Frogtown (1987)-This a very trashy film so has niche interest. But to its credit it knows its trashy and doesn't pretend to be serious or intelligent. If you like warped humour you will enjoy this.
|
Irreversible. It sucked. It start off fast paced. then got real boring. it went from the end to the beginning.i see this concept working only if the whole movie is fast paced. dam it sucked.

Andrei Rublev (1966). Just popping this 205 minute Russian classic that half-centers around a Russian icon painter is in itself a life changing moment. But the next one you will experience are when the credits roll. No doubt about it, this movie is slow, complex, confusing, and definitely cruel. It takes place at the speed of life, and it doesn't follow the normal cinematic guidelines so lauded by lazy moviegoers. And animal lovers beware! You will be offended. But all of this comes not at the expense of the viewer, but instead to his greatest benefit. This is a movie about an artist that is itself a fantastic expression of art. Its beauty is in the complexity of intertwined ideas and metaphors and how they are twisted up with humanity's greatest of traits, good and especially bad, to create a tapestry of human existence defined, an existence with man's inherent contradictions as his most ostensible characteristics.
This is really a series of stories told in succession, with three of them miniature works of brilliance in and of themselves. But together they blend into a whole that is truly difficult to put into words. It must simply be seen and felt. The acting was fine for what it was, but this is not an actor's movie, no matter the talent at hand. Andrey Tarkovskiy has created what can be rightfully be called one of the greatest cinematic masterpieces to date. This movie explores the nature of man and men, the paradox of religion, and of the unanswerable philosophy of life that has all but been abandoned by men today. It answers nothing, but surprisingly seems to point us in the right direction, if only to begin again asking questions that will have no answers. This movie simply challenges man into a serious campaign of introspection, knowing that it will cause pain at the expense of pleasure, but with the solid foundation that the world is again ready to foment such an endeavor. In accomplishing all this, the movie's artistry is never sacrificed but enhanced. The camera work is far from simple brilliance. Shot complexity and composition are impeccably woven together to create unfolding events of unparallelled majesty. From shots of princes squished into the corner of the screen to high above shots comically alluding to man the god, every shot is created with vicious ingenuity. It is almost too much to bear, but to turn away is to generate feeling of impotence that men are also unable to bear. But in watching this to impress our own egos is almost a tactic to get us to laugh at those same egos, intangible components of the human being that have forever led man to commit atrocities all for a simple stroke of something that Freud only guessed at. The movie's abrupt transition towards its end gives the audience a much needed respite from the heaviness just taken in, and by the last scene, one of magical proportions revealing something greater than man that was not even conjured up by us, we become privy to the ruminations that are to follow such a wonderful movie experience. Until, of course, we ready ourselves to watch it again, all at the expense of the ubiquitous conceit that mars and connotes the human condition. d |
Hobo With A Shotgun: Much like House of 1000 Corpses this movie starts off quite strong. Some pretty good character development that got me interested in what happens to these people. Both the good guys and the bad. Then about 3/4 of the way through it turns to utter shit. Sure, both movies are meant to be campy and over the top, but seriously? Why go completely stupid and add in characters like The Plague (or Dr. Wolfenstein and the ridiculous, huge mutant)? Both movies had such promise, but then threw it all away by letting a 9 year-old kid write the last act. I was completely disappointed with Hobo which is too bad because it was pretty damn awesome until The Plague showed up. I would probably have a hard time recommending this one to most anyone unfortunately.
Delicatessen: More than made up for the shitshow that was Hobo. Amazing movie all around. |
Suck
Loved it! What a fun movie! |
