There's Something About Mary- 4.5/5

This is another one of my "belated" movies. To be more specific, this is a movie that pretty much everybody has seen, but I haven't. Until now (obviously). And I have to say, I wasn't disappointed. Usually, these hyped movies can disappoint my movie needs, but MAry didn't. Well, except for the long wait to finally see Ted encounter Mary after his prom night mishap 13 years earlier. Aside from that, the movie was very funny and fulfilling. It had a star-studded cast (including Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon, Chris Elliot, Jeffrey Tambyor, etc.). Sure, some of this stars weren't as popular as they are today *cough* Diaz and Stiller *cough*. Overall, There's Something About Mary was a very funny and entertaing movie from The Farrely Brothers.

Making my list in the Best Action Movie thread put this in my head...

The Shooting [1967]

This right here is a painfully overlooked western that, in my opinion, should be mentioned right along with classic westerns like Once Upon a Time in The West or The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Though perhaps not quite as good as those films, it's an under-appreciated classic nonetheless. The actors are all very good, especially a very young Jack Nicholson playing his trademark lunatic years before it was his trademark. Though his character has a fairly small role and doesn't show up until over half way through the movie, he is easily the best character involved. The rest of the actors are good as well, and Millie Perkins is one heck of a beautiful woman. The plot, which I wont ruin for you, is very well written and delivers a completely unexpected twist at the very end. The only complaint that I can think of about this film is the pacing. There are moments when it drags pretty badly, but aside from that it's a truly great film that deserves more recognition.

8.5/10

I just watched through Mortuary and 2001 Maniacs. Both were good for a laugh as long as you don't think to hard about them. 2001 is the superior of the two and worth a rent.

If you liked it, you should try and get the dvd
"There's something >more< about Mary",
It's the same film, but comes with about half an hour extra footage, a whole storyline that wasn't even touched on, and a few good jokes. All of these are actually incorporated into the film, a feature I think should be available on all dvds.
Good value all the way...
