 Kick-Ass
Finally saw it this afternoon while the kids were in school. Fun. A little heavy on the needle-drop soundtrack, but good fun stuff. Chloe Moretz is going to be a star. 8/10 |

Shutter Island was ok... I wouldn't go around riding it's dick. Nice to look at but predictable as fuck. Scorsese used to be great but its been years since he put out anything decent.
----- Until The Light Takes Us I always enjoy hear Fenriz talk about music and I found the interviews with Varg interesting but on a whole I found this to be disappointing. Poor pacing and shoddily put together this doesn't really live up to the hype that surrounded it. The Eroticist Dragged on a bit too long for my liking but there was some really nicely put together sequences and the satire of church and state was sharp. |

 City of the living dead
You know, it's got some great scenes and all, bit week on the story and what the fuck happens right at the end? 6.5/10 Gutterballs The characters are the most annoying characters ever put to film. The set looks cool, but that's about it. 2/10 Killer Condom Great flick, I found it hard to deal with them setting it in American but being German, I haven't seen a flick that did that before. But the humour was good and it was just some tacky fun. 6.5/10 The Seduction of Dr Fugazi Fucking self indulgent trash. Don't bother. It reminded me of "The Room" the was it was shot, but not funny at all. Not to mention about an hour in the movie makes a complete flip, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse. I wish I had the power to stop watching a movie when it is shit! 0.5/10 Samson and Delialah This movie won a lot of awards and praise in Australia last year. I thought it was a nicely put together movie, but nothing to really grab hold of you. The petrol sniffing thing gets a bit over done in Aboriginal flicks sometimes. 7/10 |

 Pan's Labyrinth
This made me wish del Toro was directing the upcoming adaptation of The Hobbit, and not merely producing it. |

Subspecies Great film, I really liked this. I can't believe I haven't heard of this until now. I can't wait to watch the sequels. |

Oh, that's awesome! I thought I had read that he was producing but not directing. IMO he has a better feel for this kind of material than Jackson's rather heavy-handed approach.
	 |

I've never read the Lord of the Rings books. So Jackon's flicks didn't really cut it for you NE?
	 |

I know I'm in the minority here, but, no, I didn't care for them. Actually, I really, really liked about the first half hour of the first film, when they were in the Shire. He really captured Tolkien's Shire, IMO, and brought it to life. As soon as they left the Shire, however, it lost the magic for me. Things and people didn't look and act like they were described in the books, IMO. They all had a very modern feeling to me, and were very much Jackson, and not so much Tolkien.

I thought Jackson did a pretty decent job with LOTR, but personally thought the animated film from Ralph Bakshi did a better job of capturing the feel of the books, it usually gets criticised heavily though. I think if you watch the Jackson LOTR before anything else you're probably going to appreciate it, but more people should check out the animated film 'cause its a really nice adaptation and has some real nice touches. Although, its worth pointing out it is only half the story and is lacking a sequel, its pretty much an unfinished project in that respect.

But you see- LOTR deserves more than a "pretty decent" adaptation. Those books mean a lot to a lot of people- particularly to those of us who grew up in the 60s and 70s when they were at their most popular.

never read the books....but loved the movies. but I can see where NE is coming from |

I like all of them, especially the animated Hobbit. Those goblins were trippy!

What fantasy flicks do you dig? |

The Echo (2008). A decent enough ghost story. Pretty slow build up that is finally rewarded with some second half action. The lighting was used to effect. The acting was actually pretty decent. The story itself was OK, a remake of Sigsaw from the Philippines. Overall it was worth a watch, though nothing special. Merci beaucoup.

 Human Centipede (First Sequence)
Very intense and graphic. A mad doctor grafts three people, front to end, into a creature he calls a human centipede. Bloody, bizarre, gross, crazy... Available On Demand right now, even though it's playing in limited release in theatres. Check it out if you're into this kind of thing. |

Borrowed the complete Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan boxsets from a mate of mine (inspired after reading Me Cheeta: The Autobiography). I've not seen this in years and all I can say is WOW. There is so much priceless stuff in this - there is some great 'pre-national geographic' footage of African tribes used on a green screen while Jane and her big white hunter cronies parade on front of it berating their customs and costumes. Other bits of note: Jane undresses unfront of her father while slagging his prudishness (Maureen O'Sullivan is a real cutie in this) The bad guys are white midgets in black face - they capture people and drop down the killer ape pit. http://www.stomptokyo.com/sings/tarz...zan-dwarfs.jpg When a porter falls over a cliff some one asks what was in the box he was carrying. White people try to shoot/kill every living creature in the Jungle. All elephants wear huge false ears - of all the gaffs in this film who people in the 30's really know the difference between African and Indian elephants. My only dissapointment is that they only say 'JuJu' once in the whole file. But disspite all this its a great Jungle romp and Johnny's hair has oodles of charm - Cheetah on the otherhand has yet to come into his/her own. It was actually a lot cheaper looking than I remember - so it'll be interesting to see how shoestring it gets onces the series is handed over to RKO. |

The Brood (1979). With a premise that sounds anything but scary, this wonderful flick is truly chilling. Cronenburg takes his real-life pain and "manifests" it onto celluloid. The result is wonderful. With a perfect balance of on and off screen terror, this film is definitely a classic. The acting was great, with perfectly perfect performances by the main players. The kills were pretty aggressive, eliciting that beloved wincing of great horror flicks. The direction of course was phenomenal. This all time classic reveals that terror can definitely come in small packages. Merci beaucoup.

The Transporter (2002). Pretty much a by the numbers action flick. While the action was over the top, the story itself was pretty mundane. The backdrop of the French Mediterranean did make for comfy repose for the eyes, but all in all it was a rather prosaic, action-laced affair. Maybe worth a watch, but nothing special. Ashe.
