I’m reading Down There by David Goodis, a crime novel from the 1950s set in Philadelphia. It was the basis for Truffaut’s Shoot the Piano Player.

The Vampire Prince by Darren Shan.

Highly recommended teen horror. it's the 6th book in the 12 book "Saga of Darren Shan"

I'm about to start East of Eden by Steinbeck.
I hated Of Mice and Men, but maybe this one will be better.

I'm also about to start the next book in the Troy Game series. I heard it's out and I'm uber excited.
:p
I'm not sure what it's called yet.

HATED Of Mice and Men? Surely you jest..... ;) Steinbeck is one of my favorite writers, and East of Eden is one of my favorite books, for what it is worth.

Right now I am reading Don of the Dead by Casey Daniels. A cutesy mystery; and yes, I picked it up because of the title....:p

Yes.
I liked some of it.
Loved it's symbolism.
I just hated it as a whole.
It really wasn't that good.
Then again I'm picky when it comes to books and movies.

I'm hoping I'll like East of Eden.
Steinbeck seems like he has talent.
I'm just hoping for the one where it blossoms.

I think in some ways Of Mice and Men comes across as boring, though I happen to find it to a very honest novel. The characters are very well drawn out, considering the length of the work, and the ending is inevitable and tragic, but apparently it is easy to feel a kind of disconnect with the events leading up to it (from what I have heard other people say, I do not feel this way, I find it very moving, very sad, and I actually like Steinbeck's straightforward style).

East of Eden is FAR more entertaining actually, there is so much going on in that novel, and the characters are so very complex. I also think Steinbeck created just about the perfect example of a sociopath iin this novel. Steinbeck definitely did approach his characters in a different way here.
