Not a very brilliant story, but it had some laughs and 2 strong lead actors to entertain us through the fast paced road trip. If it hadn't been for the nicely picked cast Identity Thief wouldn't have made half the income it's made (crazy $100.000.000+).
Budget: $35.000.000.
IMDB rating: 5,8.

The story could've been told better and the acting could've been better as well.
But it sure had some powerfull/beautiful scenes and a couple of scenes that totally grossed med out. The blood coughing scene taking the prize with the huge leg wound coming in close second. Yuch!

Budget: 30.000.000 euros.
IMDB rating: 7,6.
Gross: $18.000.000 (WTF???)

Can't believe Identity Thief has almost made 110.000.000 and The Impossible hasn't even reached 20.000.000 yet??
I guess people just want to have a laugh when they go to the movies?

Should've been 1 maybe 2 hours shorter, but i really liked the universe of Discworld and i'd like to see a lot more of it. More stories. It's the fantasy's Star Trek added quite a bit of crazy (Simon The Sorcerer anyone?).
Also helped that the great actors involved seemed like they really enjoyed playing their characters.

There's always been good number of people who go to the movies just to get entertained by having some good time & laughs; that's all, nothing more.

I actually like Blair Witch, but I have a history with that movie, which I won't get into here.

I really don't know where it comes from. I guess I just see it as a gimmick.

GWAR is a fun band to see live, but now that they've done it, if someone else came along in foam rubber suits and doing the same shtick, I wouldn't like it as much. Then if you see about 30 other bands doing it, it would get old and stale quick. But that doesn't mean GWAR sucks. I'm also not saying that Blair Witch did it first, either. I'm just saying that it gets a lot of unnecessary hate from people who blame it for spawning that subgenre.

Riddle (2013)

Boring 'thriller'. Saw it mainly for the hottie Diora Baird, but even she was pretty dull like rest of the movie.

>>: C-

Tower Block (2012)

The residents of the top floor of a London tower block faces a battle for survival when a murderous sniper begins picking off anyone careless enough to get close to the windows. Pretty fast & solid thriller, worth a watch.

>>: B+

Life of Pi (2012)

The Days with 'Richard Parker'! Surely one of the best of 2012, as I expected. Though there are many amazing moments but loved that scene where Richard Parker is staring at the sky & Pi lying on the boat, very tiredly calls him from behind and he just slightly turns back his head (as if that tiger was thinking some serious stuffs i.e. what's going to happen next or when/where this journey will end or who knows may be he was praying or talking to God:) Even that '2nd or backup story' added an extra spark to this incredible tale of survival. Loved it.

>>: A

The Helpers (2012)

Another Vacancy rip-off.

>>: C

Lincoln (2012)

Nothing new to say about great Daniel Day-Lewis as well as the rest of the A-list Hollywood actors. I'm not sure but there was something missing; probably it dragged too much on cabinet delegation and congress discussions, not enough about Lincoln's life, only a very specific historic part of his presidency.

>>: B

Mama (2013)

There are some fine creepy set-pieces, particularly loved the scene that shot from the passageway & we see through the door that the little girl is playing with a looonngg shadow in the room! But there's quite a lot of drama at the end. Still, pretty decent overall but nothing spectacular.

>>: B+

The Lorax (2012)

Unexpectedly very average.

>>: B-

Come Out and Play (2012)

A scene-to-scene Mexican remake of 1976 Spanish Killer Kid flick Who Can Kill a Child?. Though it provided decent amount of dismembered body parts as playing tools for the children but it was quite dry in story progression.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps6431c399.jpg

HA! Pretty unnecessary addition to the series... Actually had some pretty entertaining scenes, but was ultimately uneven... Turns out (who knew??) that taking away the shaky cam reveals how incredibly cheap a movie is.

nightmare_of _death 03-08-2013 02:14 PM

http://horrornews.net/wp-content/upl...2011-movie.jpg

It was decent, but not something I would rewatch. It was too similar to Devil. It was hard to like any of the characters. Also I somewhat felt there were too many characters as they didn't really focus on all of them as much as I thought they should have. Cheap thrills don't really waste your time.

Geek 03-09-2013 03:45 AM

The Collection.

What a pile of wank. I would not watch this movie again nor would i recommend it. The ridiculous looking villain uses traps which are not in the slightest bit believable and you can just tell that they want to make it as exciting as a bland movie can get by making it so damn fast paced! If you blink you miss things its like they scrapped anything other than action. The movie keeps giving not so subtle nods to better films that you could be watching instead. There is no suspense, no fear and no interest here.

Its a ridiculous waste of time. 1/10

Deadly Detour (2011)

When car troubles leave a group of Florida-bound friends stranded in rural Maryland, a deformed maniac (The Goat Man!!) emerges from the forest to slaughter them one-by-one.

Very poorly directed, horribly acted a low budget slasher with decent amount of gore and so yeah...it's worth to call an utter crap; BUT at the end unexpectedly they've added a hilariously enjoyable sequence...One hell of a bloody massacre in a school bus full of blind retards!!:D I'm sure they had huge fun while shooting those scenes. So may be it's a bad idea but thinking of an evil plan to upload that sequence on a video hosting site & save others to go through the whole horrible movie. ;)
Anyway, I was almost determined to give it straightaway F or hardly a D but just for that gruesome funny ending...

>>: D+

Bad Meat (2011)

A group of so-called problem teens are sent by their parents to a repressive Boot Camp in the middle of nowhere, in the hope that the strict regime will transform them into youthful model citizens that their parents can be proud of. However the kids refuse to play ball, and tensions emerge between them as they try to resist the guards' sadistic methods.
Meanwhile, the camp's down-trodden cook has also tired of the abuse meted out to him by the guards, and fixes them a meal of illegal, diseased meat...a final "screw you!" before he abandons the camp. But he doesn't know that the meat is infected with a virus, which instead of simply making the guards ill as he intended, transforms them into flesh-crazed maniacs!

Oh, man...this is really a sad case! A mildly entertaining horror flick with a good cast just terribly suffers for "an ending"!! The thing is there is actually almost 'no ending' at the end. Near the end, when the final survival action part or head counts about to start then it just suddenly ends forcefully. And that's surely can be a shocker & frustrating thing for any regular horror fan, as by that time it was kinda turning into something decently funny and enjoyable watch. It was like the production ran out of money and they couldn't able to shoot the 'scripted' ending. Now, here comes the surprise part...it was actually the case! After watching the movie, I did a little online research & found this link where the sad mystery of Bad Meat resolves.

>>: C-

Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning (2012)

Quite slow burn but there's some good fight scenes.

>>: B-

Lawless (2012)

Guy Pearce steals almost every moment he was in. Liked his wicked take on the role of a bad ass Special Deputy 'Charley Rakes'. May be the character demanded but Tom 'Ben' Hardy was kinda robotic & at times appeared in a sort of mentally challenged manner! Overall, a good crime-drama.

>>: B

Gangster Squad (2013)

Pretty average; adds nothing to its genre of Hollywood gangster flicks in 50's set up. We've seen, I guess more than dozen of similar kinda films before.

>>: C+

Brave (2012)

And this wins "Best Animated Feature" in Oscar! I guess then 2012 was a very average year for Animation films.

>>: B

616: Paranormal Incident (2013)

Another low budget addition to the growing craze of found footage flicks. It was bad but I've seen worse.

>>: C

Children of the Corn (2009)

A pointless TV remake. Just gave it a watch as it was the only film left in my 8 in 1 (single disc!) Children of the Corn film collection.

Just watched 3 Low Budgeters...

Wolf Town (2011) - Pretty dull and lifeless yarn about an old mining town that was killed off by wolves back in the 1800's. Four college kids go exploring and end up in a battle for their lives against a pack of wolves. Not much action and probably worth skipping for most, although I admit that I now think I'm in love with the only female in the film, Alicia Ziegler.

Amphibious 3D (2010) - I expected a little more from Brian Yuzna. SyFy Channel should add this one to their playlist. A giant amphibian scorpion kills a bunch of people who deserve to die.

Underground (2011) - Not as bad as it seems, although it's probably another one that SyFy might pick up some day. A bunch of party goers attend a rave at an old military base. They get in a fight with what appears to be a gang and hide in an underground bunker/laboratory. A German WWII scientist brought over by the USA after the war spent years creating a race with DNA combined from the most ravenous creatures on the planet in order to build a more perfect soldier. They kind of look like the vampires from Blade II. Of course they are hungry and start eating the party goers one by one. Some nice effects, but nothing really new.

Geek 03-10-2013 10:57 PM

Smiley (2012)

Really not a good film. Its basically the same concept as candyman, only you're supposed to type "i did it for the lulz" into an internet chat three times and the killer pops up behind your chat partner and kills them. Basically there are loads of badly done jump scares and the film tries to show that the main protagonist is getting paranoid but it just gets annoying really. Surprisingly enough shes seeing a psychiatrist having been treated in the past for bipolar disorder. Why is it all the new films play on mental disorder? It doesnt add anything.

Anyway.. It shows this girl getting more and more stressed after summoning smiley and she believes that hes after her. She goes to the police but they dont believe her because they have no missing persons, no bodies and no evidence of any crime. They basically lauhh her out of the station when she admits shes seeing a psychiatrist.

After a long drawn out period of smileys after me no hes not maybe he is, we get her to discover a body, the police laugh at her again and she heads home. Loads of smileys come after her and she ends up dead. The smileys demask and they are all high school kids in one very well planned prank. The congradulate one another on s job well done and then you get one last look at smiley in an "oh god he is real" scene.

To be honest it actually looks better in writing but its been done before and its been done better. 1/10

The Horror fan 03-14-2013 01:36 PM

I have not posted in section for a while

Spider-Man 2 (2004)

This is another re-watch, I wasn't to keen on it when I first saw, It seem this movie as gown on me over the past few years

I really enjoyed it on second watch, I feel liked the fact that this movie had nice mixture of action and some very humourers moment in this movie.

I did laugh a few times in this movie as i found some jokes really funny, it blanded in really well with the action scenes.

There were some really good action scenes in this movie, really well made, there were some action that did go little longer they should, those scene kind of took edge of it.

I enjoyed most of the movie, I felt the ending was bit of let down, That really let the movie down.

The acting was really good from the whole cast!

Spider-Man 3 (2007)

I seen this a least twice before, I loved it, when it first came out. I thought it was best of 3 at the time (I didn't like second one at that time)

This movie a lot stuff happing and there could have least done first half movie that could easily fitted in the second movie.

I found this movie was trying to put way too much stuff in this movie, I loved it,

I was like Give Spider-man a break

This movie was really fasted past and Action packed and I don't think took my eyes of TV at all until the ending credits

There action scene in this movie was very gripping to watch, really well made and
not sure what make of the Series Twist at the end.

8 out of 10

The Hunger Games

I heard this was bit like Battle Royal (Which I think it classic) That is one reason, i wasn't to keen on seeing this movie.

I found the first hour of the movie very slow, I didn't think it would have been that slow, I yawning a few times.

There were some decent action just after the hour into but that scene was ruined by the
Shaky Cameraman, Swear I could make what the hell was going on in that scene.

That just really annoyed me and some of effect did look a iffy at times, what those thing like lions/dog are something, I could not really make them out.

I did found some thing to silly like, the Apple scenes fallen on to the land mind, I was give a break.

as some Similar moment to Battle Royal no were near a good as Battle Royal.

6 out of 10 good movie, could have been better!
I don't know they going to make sequel to this movie (it's most likely ending being like Battle royal 2)

I saw Paranormal Entity 4: The Awakening , I thought it was little bit better then Paranormal Entity 2. but that not saying much

Also seen half of village of the damned 1960 Could not get into at all.

Maniac (1980) I had to see this before remakes

I Really enjoyed this movie, As some cool tense moment in this movie, there was some really good nasty gory moments, which I really liked

His one hell of A Maniac!, Bloody movie, I Don't thing is aged that well, there some dated stuff in the movie but really minor, Which really dosn't really affect the movie.

The acting was really good from the whole cast

I give this movie 6 out of 10 good movie

Asylum (1972)

There were some good story in this anthology movie

The first was, Well i was little confused but I really liked how the story went, there were some odd moment in that segment.

The second Story, I found it very dull and boring, I did like the end of the story came to the end was not a good as the first story.

The Third story was not bad , I did enjoy that story but I found the whole thing very predicable

The end of the movie was very decent, Well that crazy doc sure dose have one crazy laughing voice

6/10

Trilogy of Terror (1975)

3 tales of horror and not one of them that were that good.

The first story was called

"Julie"

A student who fancy his teacher in this story (Why people in the early 30 acting like teens in this movie?) the cast just seem wrong

This short little bland, I didn't like it, it was boring and I didn't get point of the whole thing,

the story was too predicable and I knew how the story would ended way before it did,

The acting was decent but that about it!

Millicent and Therese"

(I found this really funny, so two different movies and yet both second ones were ended the same way)

I could not get into this segment at all, I found lead too annyoing and was acting way of the top in some scenes .

I swear, I already forget what happend in this segment, the whole think i liked was ending of that short (I saw this done before by another movie on same day, which also saw for first time)

"Amelia"
This was best of the worst segments, I didn't really all that great

Amelia come home find Some kind of dolls that razor sharp teeth and with some kind weapon the doll holding.

she find there is a actual spirit in, the gold chain that keep in locked in the doll but soon it's fall off the doll and as Amelia leaves the room.

There she get attacked by the doll, there some good moment in this segment but some stuff felt little muddle.

The attack scenes were handle really well, I liked how moved in some scenes but some scene were bit bland.

I liked the very last scene of the movie, That best scene in the whole movie.

I going give this movie 4 out of 10

Off to see number 2

MichaelMyers 03-14-2013 02:42 PM

Oh WOw, you liked Spider-Man 3 the best. Did not see that coming. Bruce Campbell as the maitre'd saved part III.

The Horror fan 03-14-2013 02:42 PM

Trilogy of Terror II (TV 1996)

I liked this a little better then first one

The Graveyard Rats

Not bad at all, Good start

old nasty man who blackmail is younger wife, who sleeping her Cousin, after recoding them sleeping together

She want to leave him, he giving everything to her in her will (Who know how the story goes after)

I felt some of the segment drag a little to long, i found some parts very slow and I wondering if if story as anything do with Rats,

One point I thought it was a Title of the story but as movie went on, it made more sense, I am clad i stuck in their

I did enjoyed the ending of the story, Giant kill rats were a bit silly but they were kind of Cheesy in good way , which was a little funny.

The last scene on that segment was decent, I really liked curve ending.

Bobby
This was great story (I heard it's a remake? of what?) I found this segment best of the bunch

The mum who lost her son, who drowned, while her husband away, she tries to bring back with Vodoo book.

Soon he come knocking back on the door, and acts like evil

This story did have some really good creepy moment and tense feeling at times, it dose seem a lot scary with human face on!

The ending was just very funny, the Demon face was so bad . it was so funny, I found him more scary with Human face on lol

It's a shame goofy ending ruined it!

He Who Kills

it's about killer doll again, it come back to life and starts to attack people, the same thing happens just like first one.

Maybe this was little be more bloody then first one and doll dose look a bit odd in this one. I don't find it scary at all,

I found this movie a little better then first movie

"The Amazing Spider-Man" (2012)

Plot: IMDB
Peter Parker/Spider-Man finds a clue that might help him understand why his parents disappeared when he was young. His path puts him on a collision course with Dr. Curt Connors, his father's former partner.

Phantom's Review: I personally found "Amazing" to be ...adequate. Not a bad film by any means. Good FX (if you don't mind a ton of CGI) good cast , story but the film seemed to lack the fun and excitement of the first two Sam Rami pictures. I really didn't see the point of retelling the origin over again. It made the first half hour of the film drag. But my biggest complaint with this film (as well as many other super hero movies) WHY THE HELL DO THEY KEEP TAKING OFF THE MASK!
Most of the film , he was walking around in his Spidey suit with no mask on. Do the producers feel the audience is so stupid that we would forget what the actor looked liked? It was an Okay film, I just hope the sequel is better.

The new "Oz" one.
I didn't mind it, seems to be getting a bit of a bad rap...I mean it wasn't a thing of greatness but it was fun to watch, felt respectful enough, had some interesting effects and was funny at times too.

I only felt it was lacking in the plot elements....of the "bad" witch posing as the good one and trying to set her counterpart up (that part was in itself "ok"), and the eventual "push" they were able to give their misguided sister into evil seemed to be well, not as much of a motivation as you'd think. I mean c'mon, she knew the guy for all of five minutes. that, and her green makeup didn't look as good as it could have

The cast was solidly "not bad", though personally I think that Kunis chick can't just CAN'T act for shit. Franco is a little wooden too, but hey.

Overall while I won't be rushing out to buy it on BluRay when it's out, I won't speak too ill of it. I've seen far worse a recent attempt to revisit similar subject matter...

http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps12d5505a.jpg

A small group of friends find themselves followed by an unseen/unknown entity while spending a weekend camping in the Catskill Mountains. Though the plot seemingly offers nothing new as it centers around the cliched theme of "there's something in the woods!" but still I'd say it's a well made film & the little cast did a fine job with their assigned roles. But 'sadly'...I just found the twist at the end hilarious & ruined the whole build up for me. The problem is they tried to provide a Big answer for what did actually happened with the group and which is clearly not required for this sort of films. It'd be better if they just treated it as a psychological horror through a mind-twisting evil entity!

http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps3e23f52e.jpg

After his only brother got killed by a gang of thugs, mild mannered Joe was devastated & feels abandoned by the world, until one day 'Piggy' turns up at his door, claiming to be an old friend of his brother. Piggy offers him to get justice for his brother's killing, resulting a series of events in a campaign of violence and murder. But who is this Piggy...a vigilante who just feeds on other people's vengeance or a long hidden psyche of Joe himself??

A good Britt, bloody revenge drama.

Blacker than the Night (1975)

Fans of the original The Woman in Black should check out this Mexican gem of 70's. It's got a ghost of a freaky old lady & a creepy "blacker than Night" cat!!...a top-notch combo for a haunted house flick! Loved it.

The Woman in Black (2012): Finally got round to watching this one, really enjoyed it. Good ghost story, few too many jump scares and not quite enough atmosphere but overall pretty good. Ciarán Hinds was excellent.... Only problem for me was the ending;

SPOILER:

They provide a nice sting in the tail by having the woman in black as the malevolvent spirit that is hellbent on revenge, even after the resolution, but don't want to fully commit to the dark ending that it should've been. Instead, Radcliffe trying to save his kid somehow allows for a sidestep of eternal limbo with the woman in black and allows he and his son to reunite with the dead wife/mother in some sort of sickly sweet afterlife.... Didn't quite work for me.

My Dear Killer (1972)

Good story, good mystery, good Giallo; only problem was there's too many characters that sometime made it bit hard to follow.

Axed (2012)

A Britt Indie psycho-drama about a man who takes his family to a surprise trip in a remote countryside house where he has already even abducted his boss for firing him from the job & having an affair with his wife. Now the crazy dad goes on a planned rampage to torture & kill them all...including his 2 children.
Found it bit amusing at times but near the end it become bit long & tedious. Not too bad, overall.

Frankenweenie (2012)

Simply beautiful! But man...that vampire cat was utterly creepy!! Anyway, it's really wonderful to see our very favorite icon of Horror...Sir Vincent Price on the screen after quite a long time. Thank you, Mr. Burton for bringing him back in such a remarkable way:)

Out of Mind: The Stories of H.P. Lovecraft (1998)

A great indie effort! This is really a good & clever combination of couple of stories of Lovecraft in one single storyline. Kudos to the actor (Christopher Heyerdahl) who plays the role of the Master...I guess, this is the most finest portrayal of Lovecraft I've seen so far.

Minotaur (2006)

Based on the Greek mythology, Tom Hardy plays the Heroic role of Theseous but as there's some changes in this adaptation, so he's just a humble shepherd, named Theo, haunted by the loss of his love, Fion, in an earlier sacrifice, is convinced that the beast is not a deity and his love still lives within the labyrinth of the beast. Rutger Hauer plays his father role & Tony Todd as the King Deucalion. The surprise package from the cast-list of this sy-fy channel flick not only ends here, as the end credit roles, it came to my notice that even Ingrid Pitt was there in the role of disfigured 'Leper'!

Overall, better than average sy-fy channel movies.

Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll aka House of Psychotic Women (1973)

A great, unpredictable Giallo staring Paul 'Macho' Naschy. It's got everything that any Giallo lover likes to see in a Giallo flick...a great mystery, brutal killing of beautiful female victims using blade, knife & other respectable tools, lustful 70's Euro babes, a creepy score for every time someone gets killed! Despite of its some minor sleaziness, I just simply loved it.

6 Plots (2012)

An Aussie SAW-influenced thriller; while attending a fun party at a friend's house, after getting drunk, Brie wakes up & find that each of her friends have been buried alive in unknown locations across the city, all of whom await a cruel and ironic fate if she doesn't stop the faceless killer in time.

Very average but the most annoying thing is there's no clear revelation about the killer or what motivated him behind his activity or to go through all those hazardous process to trap & kill his victims.

Night of the Comet (1984)

Doomsday in 80's! Great fun movie, Loved it.

5ive Girls

Er.. Not fantastic . Think they kept forgetting Ron Perlman was in it, the CGI was terrible regardless of when the film was made.

Stitches 2012

Not bad, i think it could have used being darker or being funnier. Clowns dont worry me at all so theres not really a fear factor. Some boring patches but the death scenes were interesting.

My first thought upon seeing the teenage tom - "thats kevin chalk!" - waterloo road

Great character study and some fine performances... I found it a really hard watch though.
