I liked The Bay. Seriously eeked me out...

Re-posting these here:

This Film is Not Yet Rated (2006)

Fantastic expose of the MPAA - I liked this one a lot.

...

Cleanflix (2009)

Great documentary about a video rental business in Utah that purchases R-rated videos and then edits out the sex, violence, and language so that the wussy Mormon community can watch them. Amused the Hell out of me.

Definitely recommended.

Continuum -- Excellent sci-fi series. If you liked the Sarah Connor Chronicles, you'll love this more. Top notch all the way around the block.

Elvis_Christ 07-22-2013 12:28 AM

Ripped through this over the last couple of days (last episode to go tonight) and thought it was great. It was a bit hit and miss to begin with but a few episodes in I was sold. Hope there's a second season...

I really liked the "Last Day of Earth" episode, where the last Earthling is just skin stretched out like canvass. I think that's the 3rd ep. It slowed a bit for me after that ep. I think I stopped at about the 6th or 7th ep.

YES! That episode is fantastic!

So I have an odd relationship with Doctor Who... I'm going to be honest; it took me a loooooooong time to get into the reboot - The only reason why I kept watching is that - true story - I wanted to be part of the Doctor Who Tribe (guess that means I was a wannabe?) - I felt as though it was a show that I should like, so I kept at it -

But ultimately it pulled me in - I had a similar experience with Buffy; I hated it at first, then thought of it as a guilty pleasure, then really got pulled in by the characters... I LOVE Rose Tyler and her family and got really attached to them. I love David Tenant. Season One is really a mixed bag - If you want to get into the show I recommend skipping The Unquiet Dead and moving forward... The show definitely picks up in Series 2.

Bastion1023 09-28-2013 06:45 PM

Stick with the reboot of Doctor Who cause there are some legitimately scary episodes. The Weeping Angels episodes and the Silence episodes come to mind immediately, but there are many others. I was reluctant to watch the new shows but once I was in I was hooked.

My friend Sven told me the same thing -- that there are some early duds, or a bit slow, but it picks up. When you say Series 2, do you mean Season 2? Have an idea of which Season and Ep that starts after The Unquiet Dead ends? Thanks! I was really pumped with the Last day of Earth ep so I'm planing on watching more.

Right now I'm enjoying the last of the Netflix Supernatural eps, angels and demons, it's cool the writers were willing to jump in like they did. I'm so glad the "back story" kicked in, cause they were getting pretty redundant for me.

Bastion1023 09-28-2013 11:40 PM

I started watching American Mary tonight, but did n't get to finish due to some chores needing done. The beginning was promising. Has anyone else watched it? Good? Bad?

Recalled earlier another movie I saw on Netflix called Dead Girl. I highly recommend it. Small film with an interesting take on a zombie movie. Very focused and more emotionally and morally horrific. I thought it was quite good.

Skip The Unquiet Dead? I loved that episode. I did really like the David Tennant years the best though.

Bastion1023 09-29-2013 05:44 PM

Agreed, David Tennant is my favorite Doctor so far. He chews up the scenery so well and his mannerisms and quirks were the most endearing. I also feel that he had the benefit of some of the very best writing in the series. Matt Smith was a good Doctor but I felt a lot if the stories were a bit flat in comparison and I know there was a change in the writing staff at the same time as the shift from Tennant to Smith.

Dude. Must have missed this post because not all pics load when I'm on at work but I absolutely agree - I was really impressed with this show - Also agree that the earlier episodes are a little weak (the chicken episode almost caused me to stop watching), but as soon as it picks up, it takes off - I adore the character development and acting; quite a layered show and I'm psyched for next season.

Yeah, "Blink" (Weeping Angels) was really great - Almost at Silent Library, which I'm pretty psyched about. I'm loving Katherine Tate (Donna) as a Companion.

Yeah - I meant Season 2 of the reboot - Some people call it "Series" vs. "Seasons" (maybe it's a British thing?) - I use it interchangeably.

I've never seen Supernatural - I need to check that one out...

I honestly was REALLY disappointed by American Mary (I was hoping it would push the envelop a bit more and truly be a shocker)... As for Dead Girl, folks seem to like it, but it wasn't for me (can't say that it's a bad film; just too icky for me).

V H S 2 [ better than the first]

Also..Pumpkinhead 2 [ not better than the first]

Just watched the original Manic film. That was weird. The film stops the story with text on various psychosis, explaining what they are. The acting in the movie is pretty bad. And the occasional nudity is bizarre to see. And talking to the camera. Seems like a torn film. I look forward to seeing the remake. The original is special for it's time, but fairly simple minded.

That's not the same Maniac that this is a remake of. I think you watched Sex Maniac (1934), which also goes by the name Maniac. Yeah, that movie is total cheese-fest, but a fairly notable exploitation classic.

This film is a remake of the 1980 shocker, which is also a classic, but one that doesn't suck.

Ferox13 10-28-2013 08:08 AM

Dwain Esper's Maniac is a fantastic film. He did an excellent one called Sex Madness too. Its a depressing tale about the dangers of VD and quack doctors. Also check out some of his 'anti' drug films...

The Following is now streaming.

crazy_loot_fan 10-31-2013 02:15 PM

I recently watched a youtube video recommending some 80's horror films then realised after searching that the US seems to have a better selection as opposed to what UK denizens have because when I searched hardly any where on there :( I have watched these though which are on the UK Netflix...

Beyond re animator
Puppet master
An American werewolf in London
Phenomena

I also have these on my list to watch...

Puppet master 2
Puppet master vs Demonic toys
Carrie
Return to horror high
Student bodies

hacelikewhoa 11-09-2013 11:37 PM

Maybe not very horror-esq but I have been re-watching Dexter since they have finally added it. (s01-s04)
I was actually wondering if v/h/s II was any good, so from the looks of it, I will be watching that soon
I need to finish maniac also...Watched part of it, got busy and forgot to finish it.
How is the original btw?

(EDIT: I just now realised that you were asking about Maniac and not the V/H/S movies... sometimes I read too fast)

I recently watched both movies back to back, and trust me, I am very prejudiced when it comes to found footage stuff. But I thought the first one was pretty ok, good enough to make me want to watch the second one... and the second one I thought was awesome :) I really liked the mood and the atmosphere that both movies created.

I just added Grabbers to my list. Watched Olympus Has Fallen yesterday - I'm a sucker for disaster movies, so I really liked it. Plus I'm a big fan of Gerard Butler.

Just watched Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh last night.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psefbea802.jpg

I was pleasantly surprised. It takes a while to build up, but it's legitimately creepy. It's not a perfect movie but if you're looking for a creepy little flick on a Sunday night when you have nothing else to do - It's perfect.

Ferox13 12-02-2013 09:45 AM

Here's a pretty good list of ' PSYCHOTRONIC' films on netflix (from Daily Grindhouse).

YEAH......get their list on facebook. Nice site.....watched "Targets" yesterday. Pretty sure I have seen it before...."back in the day"....kind of a split personality movie. The sniper half was pretty creepy. Love seeing Boris in the wraparound.

Let me know your thoughts if you get around to watching it - I think part of the reason why I was so "impressed" is that it was put out by Rue Morgue (so I guess I assumed it would suck!).

While I don't think it'll win any best movies of the year, I appreciate that it's not our average fare.
