The Returner - Japanese sci fi action

ChEEbA 01-08-2005 02:56 AM

Was that (returner) any good?
The trailer looked awesome...

Really entertaining and expertly crafted slice of Japanese sci-fi/gun play action film making.
Some excellent characters, some great FX (including some marvellous CGI renditions of apocalyptic destroyed cities with alien ships and huge transformer robots roaming the ruins), some great, violent action, a solid cybertech/Industrial soundtrack and a nice streak of gentle humour.

it's not half bad really ..

Prince of Darkness. I didn't like it.....can't help it. It was too slow for the first part and lost my interest. Then when it did start to get good I was lost.

I'll stick with Halloween and The Fog for Carpenter flicks.

Illuminati 01-08-2005 06:20 AM

last movie i saw was Nightmare before Christmas for the 12th time. Tim Burton is d best there is....

movieman64 01-08-2005 06:33 AM

Tenebre, last night and I am going to watch Vamps 2, Blood Sisters and Fade to Black. We got over 3" of snow last night, so I might head out and rent a couple I don't have for tonight.

That's being mild. "Prince" is a crap heap. Moronic in the extreme. AWFUL humour dilutes even the smallest chance this cheap looking silly film had of being even slightly good.

The Devil is a stupid splodge in a jar, and then a girl with strawberry jam on her face, the scary satanic helpers are nothing but a bunch of tramps led by the suitably crap as always Alice Cooper and in suitably dumbed down fashion all the horror has to be made a joke of (the scene with the annoying Chinese guy making bad one liners while trapped in the closet is so dreadful Carpenter should have never been allowed on a film set again - which given the other crap he's done since would have been a good thing)...resulting in a true turkey!

The unbroken line of crap and below average movies since this low point shows that Carpenter should have retired years ago and done us and his legacy a big favour.

Tenebre - Now THAT is more like it. True horror class and perhaps Argento's best film.

I like Prince of Darkness...anything with Alice Cooper in it can't be bad. Speaking of which, he stars in Monster Dog too. :D

And always are.

"Shock" - 40's Vincent Price melodrama.
Not great, but actually not that bad. A solid watch.

Toy Story 2, remember to watch out for the many movie jokes and the end credits!
But no, they did not include the end credits and the short on the German channel I recorded it on!

I really liked this show too. I even showed it to my Dad who's 74 and he really liked it. He likes a lot of the old Horror stuff. He has told me about going to the theatre on Saturdays when he was a kid, paying 25 cents for a double feature, popcorn and a soda! Oh the good ole days. He's seen all the classics too.

42ndStreetFreak 01-09-2005 07:06 AM

Ahhh...I'm only 34 but i remember the double bills you used to get.
2 films for your money...intervals...usherettes...Kiora...'Orange Maid' ice lollies.

The ever entertaining "FX". You can't beat big Bri Dennehy doing a rant!!

urgeok 01-09-2005 08:06 AM

i clearly remember movies being 25 cents.
Cartoons and the whole deal.

we were given 50 cents .. the other 25 was for a popcorn and a drink but we went to this shoe repair/candy store (!) place on the way and would get a bag full of 3 for a penny candy. (blackballs, swedish berries, etc)

a show and a trip to the dentist for 1/2 buck .. cant beat that.

i love that movie ..

no werewolves but it did have every other element of a werewolf movie.

Luckily i didnt really have any expectations when i saw it so i enjoyed it thoroughly.

movieman64 01-10-2005 05:25 AM

Peeping Tom, and The Creeping Flesh today.

The only expectation I had was that it had werewolves. I didn't dislike it, I actually liked it quite a bit. If I ever see it for sale, more than likely I'll pick it up. If I get it again, I have to make sure to sit down and watch the whole thing in one sitting. I kept having to stop and start (had to get my nephew's car from where he works), so sometimes I got a little lost. But, overall, very good movie.

Just looked back at what I wrote before - should be "Brotherhood", not Brother. Sorry!

- So, I dunno if THIS

http://www.filmax.com/trailers/trl1154_480.htm

is a sequel or some kinda rip-off, but by the title, I'd say there's a small likelihood of werewolves?
I think I saw THE BROTHERHOOD, or at least some of it a while back...one of the guys played by marc dacascos?
Always wanted to see the rest of it, damn...

That's who that was!! I knew he looked familiar (obviously I didn't look at the credits). Yes, Mark Dacascos plays a Native American. The clip that Netflix shows made me think it was about werewolves. That's what I was going by.
