Round 2 - Match 5

Our next two competitors both claim very convincing 9-1 Round 1 victories, but only one of these two can survive to make the quarterfinals...

John Carpenter - Halloween, The Fog, The Thing, Christine, Prince of Darkness, They Live!, Memoirs of an Invisible Man, In the Mouth of Madness, Village of the Damned (remake), Vampires, Ghosts of Mars. {John has also made a number of notable non-horror films including Assault on Precinct 13 (original), Escape from New York, Starman, Big Trouble in Little China and Escape from LA.}

James Whale - Frankenstein (1931), The Old Dark House, The Invisible Man (1933), Bride of Frankenstein (1935), The Invisible Man (1966) {James also directed several other non-horror films as well.}

First one to 7 wins...

mothermold 05-14-2006 10:11 PM

I dread making these kinds of decisions.....but I gotta go with John Carpenter.

_____V_____ 05-14-2006 10:40 PM

Although his movies sucked later...but for the early brilliance...Carpenter...

John Carpenter - After watching Cigarette Burns I see he still has some left in the tank.

Zero 05-15-2006 04:54 AM

with all due respect to Whale for making the first American horror masterpiece ( - Dracula was first but, in all fairness, not a masterpiece) . . . i still vote

John Carpenter

Carpenter wins in a 7-0 shutout!

David Cronenberg - Shivers, Rabid (aka Rage), The Brood, Scanners, Videodrome, The Dead Zone, The Fly, Dead Ringers

And his opponent.... Who managed to best Guillermo del Torro by a score of 7-4 in the opening round...

Cronenberg. Not much direction involved when you basically make all zombie movies ("stumble around and grunt in a convincing manner" LOL).

The Fly is one of the remakes that surpassed the original.

Tat2 05-15-2006 08:19 PM

I like Cronenberg, but I gotta go with:

FULCI

bwind22 05-15-2006 08:30 PM

Cronenberg takes out Fulci 12-3 to advance to the quarter finals.

Next match will be up soon...

bwind22 05-15-2006 08:34 PM

Round 2 - Match 7

He advanced through the first round after a hard fought 8-6 battle with DOn Coscarelli...

Stuart Gordon - Re-Animator, From Beyond, Dolls, The Pit & The Pendulum (1990), Castle Freak, Dagon, King of the Ants {Stuart is currently working on a horror film called Stuck, due out in 2007.}

And his opponent crushed the master of puppets 7-1, but can he stand up to the man behind Re-Animator?

Rob Zombie - House of 1000 Corpses, The Devils Rejects

First one to 7 wins...

Yellow Jacket 05-15-2006 08:38 PM

Stuart Gordon

Zombie may haev two great films under his belt, but Gordon's got a ton under his!

P.S. I have just decided on the tournament I will be running next and I, for one, am pretty excited about it. I think it'll be a good one. You can trust me. Have I let you down with a tournament in the past? The Tournament of the Living Dead (Zombie films), The Eternalment (Vampire films), The Cartoonament I (Simpsons) and The Cartoonament II (South Park), now the Greatest Horror Directors. Come on! If I'm running it, you know it's bound to be a pretty good tourney. :D
