Jaa's Muay Thai is AMAZING, the stunts are fun to watch and all but it's his Muay Thai that I really enjoyed watching. I LOVED that ultra high roundhouse knee he planted. Good stuff.

scouse mac 03-06-2006 01:00 PM

By sheer coincidence Ive just finished watching Ong-Bak. Thought the stunts/action sequences were outstanding and visually it looked great but whoever scripted it needs a few more lessons. The slo-mo replays didnt bother me much, it made me appreciate the whole 'no wire-work' side of the production.

Pistol Opera

Directed by Seijun Suzuki, who also made Branded to Kill. This movie is basically a remake of Branded to Kill, only with a female in the lead role. From this, I've concluded that Suzuki's style just isn't for me. It seems a little too self-consciously artsy for my taste. Overall: 5/10... but those who enjoyed Branded to Kill will probably like it more than I did.

howl's moving castle

latest offering from Hayao Miyazaki.
good movie .. not as rich and textured as Spirited Away but a good film.

austin will have to get it as Christian Bale voices the main character :)

Miikeīs "Yôkai daisensô " = "The big Yokai war" 4/10

A mess of a fairytale for children.

I think something went wrong with the translation of the japanese title, coz not a hell of a lot of war is going on in this one.

Marronnier - 6/10

I probably would have liked this movie a lot more if the subtitles weren't so screwed up. For the low-budget effects, it was creepy as hell.

well, i finished it and i stand by my initial impressions..
a good movie - good entertainment - but it suffers in comparrison to Spirited Away.
Not always a fair way to assess a film but it's hard not to do ..
The problem you face after making a masterpiece i guess :)

I watched the short first then the full length(which made more sense and changed the story slightly)and it was every bit as disturbing the second time around.

There were times when I was asking myself "how the hell did they get away with the subject matter?" It is definitely the jewel of the three.

Battlefield Baseball

As I said in general it was hilarious and I have to say I liked it a lot better than both Stacy and Wild Zero (which were ok) and that's amazing because BB lacked zombies. Anyway, it was a fun watch and I absolutely LOVED the whole scene where the skin was blasted from somebody and then his skull was uppercut into the sky.

just worried about the skipping, etc ...

laserdiscs are the same quality as DVDS .. better in fact .. but the players arent as good. the player technology has come further with DVD.

unless i get my hands on a pioneer elite .. something i've always wanted ..

then i'll be able to make copies that are indistinguishable from a DVD

You didnīt think the woman was strangely distant towards the boy and her baby, concidering having a child was her biggest wish to begin with?

That annoyed the hell out of me, for some reason.

doctor satan 03-13-2006 06:51 AM

Just seen Seven Swords, don't believe the hype! nowhere near as good as comercial Chop Socky such as House of flying daggers or Crouching Tiger, It was like a poor mans Seven Samurai & rather dull in places & choreography just not up to scratch.

Three Extremes

I thought this was a great anthology, with one small problem... Dumplings was the first film. I enjoyed both Cut and Box, but Dumplings was so strong that it sort of overshadowed what came after. I think it would have worked better if that one had come last. Overall: 8/10

Towards the end she seemed to favor Jin-seong(the boy) and forgot all about her baby.

But your right her attachments towards her children were'nt exactly strong ones, but by the end of the film they've already established that both mum and dad were coming apart mentally.
