However, I don't know that it necessarily qualifies as the modern stuff that he seems to disapprove of. It's somewhat old and almost has an 80s feel to it (well, early nineties is practically 80s). Another reason why he ought to like it, but also not terribly representative of "modern."

Hmmm.....good point. I'll see what he thinks. It looks like it was 1994.

Maybe it's a good starting point. It has some pretty over-the-top acting and old-school special effects, which to me feels more like 80s than the trends that started in the 90s (post-modern a la Natural Born Killers, Scream, Jacob's Ladder, or more gritty/realistic a la Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, Blair Witch, etc.). Regardless, whether it's for your contest or not, it's a must watch for horror fans.

So unfortunately In the Mouth of Madness didn't go over too well. He was actually pretty hopeful because it was a John Carpenter movie. His reasoning? He thinks it's just a rehash of all of John Carpenter's prior movies done in a really poor way. I'm bummed. But, what did I tell you? PICKY, PICKY! I liked it though. It's probably something I wouldn't buy, but I'd watch it again. Anyway....back to the list. Crossing my fingers still. I'll have my review up tomorrow on my blog.

Those are his favorites probably.

His tastes lay pretty close to mine. You wrote any post 1990 film? That's the trick, isn't it?

Then that would be:

The Sixth Sense
Jacob's Ladder
Se7en
Silence of the Lambs
The Ring 2002
Dead Silence (not a 4 star, but scary & decent)
The Cabin in the Woods

Yup! So he's actually seen most of these with the exception of Dead Silence and The Cabin in the Woods. I'll add them to the list. Thanks!!!
