Neither group is responsible in any way for this man's crimes. And not all NRA members/politically-active gun owners are right-wing or Christian; that's a bullshit stereotype.
It might be a stereotype. But its mostly true. Most members of the NRA are republican and when I say most I mean about all 98%.

If it was up to them it will still be like the wild west, where everybody gets a gun.

I guess you think that all the gun laws are fair. Look at Canada, Their crime rate is not even half of ours. Why is killing so important? (and yes thats all a Gun does)

When you say "them" say "you" because I'm a member. I don't know where you get 98% from but around here at least there's a healthy number of minorities in attendance, mainly Asians(women too for that matter). Maybe a majority are Republican but there are many libertarians among NRA ranks and in rural areas it's not uncommon to see Democrat members(I'm a registered Democrat). And by the way the Wild West actually had fairly strict gun control within town limits, and less violent crime than is commonly portrayed in popular media.

No, all a gun does is push a piece of metal out of the barrel. You can put it through a paper bullseye, an animal or a human being. Killing is an act performed by another man, and it's that man who is morally and legally responsible for what that gun does. A gun is morally neutral. Its purpose is determined by the man who wields it. And if you want to know why I think they're so important, just do a little reading on the first people who were denied the right to own guns in the USA. I'll bet you can guess who it was. They said it was about crime prevention back then, too.

Thank You, Kemal;)

The NRA guys are coming out in droves on the AOL chatboard as usual and only admit to be card carrying members after statements about how it's a "good thing" that someone killed off the "Satanic" music maker, etc. The NRA itself doesn't worry me as much as some of the politics and beliefs that so many members of it hold dear. The same people who worry about someone else having an abortion because it's not part of "God's plan" are the same people who wouldn't bat an eye over shooting someone to death. I suppose a doctor shouldn't play God with someone's life (even if it is a fetus), but some gun-toting good ole boy is allowed to. I wonder when the side note in the Ten Comandments about 'Thou Shall Not Kill' * (*unless it's by gun and you don't agree with them) was written into The Bible since my edition doesn't have that listed in it.

you know what your talking about, but how many innocent little boys and girls have been shot in drive by's? YES it is the person who pulls the trigger and the person DOES commit the crime. But if we had tighter restrictions on Guns it would happen a lot less. By saying "A gun is morally neutral" well a lot of the people who get access to them aren't. And they decide the Bullets fate.

I agree with Chris Rock "Bullets should cost 5,000 dollars (I think thats the number). And when someone gets shot they really deserved it. Less innocent people would die and thats all I really care about.

all a Gun is, is a device just for killing. You can shoot whatever you want with it. Its not a device for fun.
If killing animals or Tin cans is fun. You need a new hobby. thats just how I feel about Gun laws.

you dont see innocent bystanders getting strangled or knifed to death.

hey, a nuclear bomb isnt responsible for killing either ..
does that mean everyone should be able to get a license for one ?
