The four characters could not be a better contrast of people, very believable but a polar sorts. The cinematography was incredible; the direction masterful. One of my all-time favorite films, for sure.

The Wolfman(2010) and The Crazies(2010). Had a day at the movies today and saw both of theses, expensive as fuck, but good watches. Wolfman gets a 7/10 and Crazies gets an 8/10

gripping, exciting, and important.

Shanks

William Castle's last film, starring French iconic mime Marcel Marceau. It took a while to get into it, since everyone in the film is a classicly trained mime artist, and the acting style is pretty stilted, once I accepted it for what it was, I could enjoy it for the oddity it is, particularly when Shanks started killing off people and reviving them as motorized zombies.

The Descent (2005)

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/6580/thedescentj.jpg

Saw it once before, so pretty much excited for this special 2nd viewing before watching the sequel, and enjoyed it far more than the first time. The characterization, suspense, gore and the ending all that makes it a brilliant watch and a modern day masterpiece undoubtedly.

The Descent: Part 2 (2009)

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/147/descent2.jpg

Really bit surprised to see how it's getting so much praise in different reviews & specially at the imdb...6.3/10!?! May be cause of there are always some fans who love the original so much that they can't able to completely hate or dislike a sequel or the series. Even some reviews include the line like "If you’re in the mood for a cheap Friday night scare with plenty of gore, this is the film for you."

But I'd say avoid it. If you have any care or love for Neil Marshall's 2005 film then just skip this one, don't even go for the title.
As there was actually no reason for this film to exist, so here with the sequel, the writers totally failed to justify why they made it. From start to finish they were like on a rage to destroy the overall mood & core of the original film. And last but not the least, the ending...which sucks big time! I'm afraid they may be next time turned it into just another ordinary worthless series like Wrong Turn; or even there is a tiny little possibility that a direct-to-dvd film may come out with a tagline like 'Hilly Billy monsters meet with the Cave Monsters'! (Just kidding,:D)

Anyway, as a safe money-making venture it's natural that there will always be a sequel or remake of a good, successful or acclaimed horror film these days. But being as an 'Executive Producer' I don't get why Mr. Marshall allowed them to do such a crap out of his film?!

Btw, there is one thing that I 'like' in this sequel...great amount of Tomato color Gore all over! Reminded me some bloody slasher films of late 60's & 70's.

Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn (1987). How does one describe something that is simultaneously brilliant and absurd? Can't be done. This Evil Dead remake, it really is more of a remake, goes completely over the top, taking its willing audience with it. This one has it all: action, gore, and comedy. Bruce Campbell's facial expressions alone are worth the price of admission. The camera-work, with some incredible camera angles, reveal that this is no slouch of a movie. The effects were even splendid for the times. The acting was superbly silly, but it was course Raimi's direction that deserves the accolades. A blast of a flick...

"Faust" (1994) 4-5/10

Liked the surreal parts, but I quickly, VERY quickly became tired of the string puppets and string puppet theater.

"Creepshow" 5-6/10

Far from great, but entertaining nevertheless.

Not familiar with this one, but you've absolutely piqued my interest. Marcel Marceau turning people into zombies? I'm sold.

Sorry, Doc Faustus. I really didn't like it.

Was home this weekend, so finally got to watch some Netflix:

Paranormal Activity
Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant
Whiteout

Liked Paranormal Activity, there was a scene or two that actually scared me.

Loved Cirque du Freak

Disappointed in Whiteout, thought it was boring

Undead or Alive

That was just shit, apart from the hot indian girl, it was a waste of time. I thought there would have been a few laughs but noooo.

2/10

Trailer Park of Terror

This had some good gore and an ok take on the redneck horror, but it didn't really explain itself, it just didn't make sense. Still it was a ok zombie fun.

6/10

The Ghastly ones

It started of awesome, then for about 40 or 50 minutes you just have to put up with bad acting and nothing much happening. Then it all kicks off again. Obviously it is very low budget, but that doesn't mean you have to be boring. The gore was good when it came, but overall it was hard to sit through without, wait for it. yes, being bored.

5/10

The Sex Killer

This is one wierd movie, the soundtrack seems like it is a broken record, there is hardly any dialogue at all. The central character is played reasonably well as he slowly decends into depression and madness. Definatley worth checking out.

7.5/10

Dance of the dead

I was really let down by this, I'm a bit over zombie movies of late that try to hard for the humor because they just don't seem to do it very well.

4/10

The night strangler

I loved this, the style, the story, the acting, I definatley need to track down the tv series it was based on.

7/10

Dogville (2003). Move over Sword of Doom and Double Suicide, for i have a new fav. This movie was that good, that dark. Not for those that are impatient or hate originality in a movie, Dogville hangs its hat on impressive acting, incredible storytelling, and some pretty great dialogue. Oh, and there may have been some absolutely brilliant camera work in there somewhere as well. Not a happy happy joy joy flick, this exploration of human nature will likely leave you emotionally exhausted, drained really, and a little less likely to fall for the next act of altruism that comes your way. This wonderfully dark flick perfectly expounds upon man's exploitative nature, especially when someone has something over another individual. Who hasn't used a tidbit of info over another to exact what they want? The acting was superb, with Nicole Kidman of course being astounding. She was in good company. The story and direction was magnificent-thank you Lars. Merci beaucoup.

Right now actually, I am watching Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)

it's one of my favorite Old-school Halloween films. I also liked the original movie by John Carpenter Halloween (1978)

It started out really well. It was really creepy and disturbing the way he was obsessed with the family, but I felt the movie fell apart in the last half.

Disease 03-16-2010 04:12 PM

Inseminoid

This was a pretty wierd sci fi horror flick. This chick gets inseminated with alien sperm then she gets super human strangth and kills the rest of the crew. I got a few good cheesy laughs out of it.

6.5/10

Zero in and scream

It was mainly just people naked getting it on, generally in the pool, then the killer would strike. The motives were not explained, no character back ground at all, yet it was still somewhat disturbing.

6.5/10

The Descent 2.

Decent flick despite the other reviews I've read. Definitely stepped up on the gore factor, but obviously not near as good as the first. Worth a watch though.

I was looking forward to it because I have to admit I was a roller derby fan as a kid, but the script was trite and predictable. A real letdown.

Last seen:
Reservoir Dogs. This Tarantino classic again did not suck. This wicked little flick concerns the after effects of a botched crime. The beauty is that we really never get to see the crime itself, only the after effects, leaving the viewer drooling to see what happened. The dialogue was awesome, as is usual for Tarantino film, and the opening scene only draws the viewer in with one of the greatest diner scenes ever (Pulp Fiction rates up there with incredible diner scenes). The acting itself was strong, with Michael Madsen's psycho dance being wonderfully sick. Once you have been drawn in, instead of watching a movie, the viewer becomes ensconced within it until that supremely climactic ending. With great violence, intrigue, and paranoia, this magnificent Tarantino entry should be on every one's "see once a year" list. Merci beaucoup.

Orphan (2009). With lots of "children gone bad" flicks out there lately, Orphan threatened to be another run of the mill of this genre. But nope, instead, it was a genuine and original horror flick and more. The story itself was solid, and there were many subtle subplots to make it that much better. The acting was solid throughout, with nary a cringe when the youngsters came onscreen. The direction and cinematography were commendable. As a horror flick, the scares were real, and there were a couple of scenes that made me cringe for all of the right reasons. Overall, a great entry that Hollywood should take note of. Merci beaucoup.

The Magnificent Seven (1960). Based on a Kurosawa classic, this incredible western classic stands on its own two feet. With the story already set, this film wonderfully comports itself to fit in with the wild West, and it does so wonderfully. The opening scene superbly sets the stage for our little tale to unfold. The cast were outstanding for this type of work. Brynner was perfect as the lead, with McQueen playing his part as second in line. Wallach is also strong in his portrayal of the bandit. My favorite was Coburn, cool quiet and deadly, much like a samurai. The score deserves mention as well and fully deserved its Oscar nomination. Simply a great western classic that deserves to be seen again, and again...

Masterson of Kansas

A western directed by William Castle. Not very good. The direction was trite and formulaic. He was much better in his element with horror.
