A SIMPLE PLAN by Scott Smith. Pretty good debut about $$ being the root of all evil. Made into a less than impressive 1998 film.

I just recently sold my entire book collection (due to moving & space issues) which included most of Stephen King mainly in hardcover. It's hard for me to pick just one of his to be my favorite....

I really enjoyed:

Misery
IT
Salem's Lot
The Stand
Insomnia
The Dark Tower series

He has great short stories too!!

Let's just say that there wasn't many of his that I did not like.

After the reco from wise sage "V", re-reading my beat up copy of PROPHECY.

Tracy133 09-21-2014 12:13 PM

Just finished Cabal by Clive Barker. I just started on the Venus Complex by Barbie Wilde.

horcrux2007 09-26-2014 10:31 AM

I'm reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea right now. I'm on chapter 10 of part 2.

anglewitch 09-26-2014 10:36 AM

Just started reading The White Python.

RED by Jack Ketchum. Pretty good story of an old man whose dog is killed and his attempts to seek some sort of justice/closure. Ketchum is a good writer, but he can be incredibly sadistic (THE GIRL NEXT DOOR, OFF SEASON) and a lot of his books seem to have gun toting rampages towards the end.
So far liking this...

THE OTHER SIDE proved to be a perfect Halloween read. Highly recommended.

THE BEAST WITHIN-Edward Levy. Really good past paced story from the early 80's. Borrows a LOT from CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF (1961), but still well worth giving a look. Levy's ALONG CAME A SPIDER is also worth checking out.
The 1982 movie of the same name veers way far from the book and is pretty much not worth seeing.

Just got back from visiting Brother and his family in Kansas City Mo. Raided his bookshelf to read some old favorites and read THE HOWLING 2 by Gary Brandner. Quick easy/cheesy read with hot Marcia using her wowee factor on everyone for her own devious means.
Pretty bad, but enjoyable and have heard the book is a masterpiece compared to the film of the same name.

sfear 10-16-2014 10:40 AM

My novel for Halloween this year about a house which may or may not be haunted, may or may not have committed murder.

Never heard of this one, but enjoy Keene anyway, especially GHOUL.

FryeDwight 10-19-2014 04:07 AM

Reading some HP Lovecraft in an anthology I found at a Kansas City MO used bookstore while visiting brother a couple of weeks ago. Some decent stories including "The Curse of Yig", "The Horror at Martin's Beach" and "Winged Death".

I'm reading an abridged version. I've already read the full version of it, but I'm reading the abridged version for class.

Went through the organized clutter of my office/library and found the tie in to the 1972 TALES FROM THE CRYPT by Jack Oleck, who I believe did some work for Warren Publishing around the same time.
Really liked this when I was 12 and not read it in several years...hoping it still will get the love.

tsdrago 10-23-2014 05:04 AM

I just ordered Hiroshima Nagasaki: The Real Story of the Atomic Bombings and Their Aftermath by Paul Ham. Research for my next novel.

sfear 10-25-2014 08:26 PM

Finished my Halloween reading early so decided to start this pulpish looking action-packer:
http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/z...s3017dd8a.jpeg
Looks like a western and reads like a western until people start talking about the wireless, the automobile, the airplane, and the lure of the silver screen.

FryeDwight 10-27-2014 06:38 AM

THE RATS by James Herbert. Always liked his material, although I always enjoyed it more when he would veer off the plot and introduce characters who would end up dying in the most awful fashion.
Stephen King described his writing as someone grabbing you and screaming in your face, which is quite appropriate.

I'm reading Transference. An inexpensive eBook for amazon kindle by independent author Clive cooper. About halfway through now, very graphic description of a man committing murders by astral projection.

Transference by Clive cooper on kindle. Very graphic!

I'm digging it quite a bit so far. I read Summer of Night a few months ago which I was also pretty impressed with.
