Loved it since I was a kid. It's dope you should definitely pick it up.

I liked Class of 1984 a lot. I never saw class of 1999 but the trailer for Class of 1999 II: The Substitute looks so bad that it is good.

"Now class is dismissed, gentlemen."

Elvis_Christ 01-15-2010 04:12 AM

Barely remember Class of 1999 II but fuck I hated it at the time. It just lacked the style Lester brought to the other flicks. Its an unofficial sequel anyways that little to do with the other films... just like Universal Soldier II: Brothers in Arms. Both would be better watches under different aliases with lowered expectations.

I do appreciate a lot of this shit more these days but the majority of the 90s low budget action flicks are just dire cash ins. There's a few killer Kickboxer knockoffs starring ex porn stars that are totally killer flicks amongst some of the shit once you've developed a taste... there's more heart and effort in a lot of it than the bullshit they try and pass off as action films these days.

House at the Edge of the Park (1980). Violent and cruel portrayal of misogeny in a sexploitation flick. While the acting was painful most of the time, the central psycho here does a pretty chilling job of being a psycho. If ya like flicks whose central theme is torture and the violation of woman that are portrayed as rape-magnets, then this movie is for you. Ashe.

I wouldn't call that one Sexploitation

Universal Soldier - Regeneration.
I was thinking yknow, both of the guys (JCVD, Lundgren) from the first one being in this, could be an alright watch...it wasn't BAD bad, but yeah I wouldn't suggest watching it if you're after a remotely decent plot, or like acting, from anyone.
Dolph Lundgren seems to be a pointless addition *spoiler* gets taken out far too easily and has none of the presence he had in the first film...in fact, his cloned character in this is little more than a babbling retard it seems they have one alright fight though...I guess...
The thing that I find a little bit annoying is that it seems no way related aside from recycled names, to any of the previous films...ignoring where the first film starring JCVD left the character, even ignoring "the return".
It almost felt like a UniSol fan-fic.

If you're after mindless action, something to watch while pissing up perhaps, this isn't that bad a direct-to-video effort...though if you ask me they even did the first "sequel" years too late, this only drives that home.

What would ya call it then? Not questioning ya as i am not by any means an expert and am learning to pigeonhole flicks whenever i can. The main reason i called it that was b/c there was a fair amount of boobs being exposed from tops being pulled down. The only thing i know for sure is to not ever call anything torture porn as that term tends to set people off, probably from a Manchurian Candidate-like brainwashing experiment done in the 80s. Late.

Elvis_Christ 01-16-2010 03:03 PM

I guess I'd file House By The Edge Of The Park under the Rape/Revenge subgenre of exploitation. Sexploitation is more lighthearted IMO but that's just me call shit what you want :)

Have to check that one out. What you mentioned about Lundgren sounds disappointing I was hoping for him to be like the original characterwise.

Outlander

Was not expecting anything, Totally forgot this was even on my Netflix queue and it sat on my desk for 2 weeks.

AWESOME
I was moved emotionally by Kainan's loss and even the moorwen had my sympathy for a bit.
Was waiting for a nasty sex scene between Freya and Kainan but very glad they didn't put that in - totally crackled with sexual energy between the two.

Tons of kicking ass with broadswords and splattering blood:D

This is also a great buddy flick.
A man coming into a tribe as a criminal and in the end a husband, father, friend and King.
The relationships between Kainan, the King (played brilliantly by John Hurt) and Wulfric was well played. The boy was adorable and tough and needed to be there because of the loss of Kainan's son on his planet by the Moorwens made a great dynamic to this story and added so much emotion.
Also to note: check out Ron Perlman as Gunnar-I didn't even recognize him until the credits. His death scene-outstanding!!

Very underrated IMHO and I am glad I saw it. Mutilayered, action, love, swords, blood...AND a monster.
I was completely lost in the story and was sad to leave it at the credits.
Everything I love about a movie:cool:

NOTHING like...to be honest he feels pretty superfluous in the film. My hopes were raised a little when I found out he was in it, then killed when I saw what was up...but yeah, see it out of interest, sure.
Dolph looks pretty damn old - funny, he looks more the part of the punisher now than he did back then.

Loosely based on Poe's story. A man's newly transplanted "vengeful" heart leads him on a dangerous journey to find out who murdered its donor. Though it had a good cast but failed to be above average just for the story line.

Transsiberian (2008). Described as a Hitchcockian train ride, this was a great intrigue shot in the wonderful expanses of Lithuania. The acting was great, where many of the characters tending to innocence but things are never as they seem. Where to draw the line? The story was a tight, solid thriller, and the direction great as well. The cinematography was well balanced in the way it thwas at captured the polar extremes of claustrophobia and wide-open expanses. Overall a great watch. Ashe.

Zombieland What can I say that hasn't already been said? Awesome movie. I loved the opening sequence. The gore was great. Very funny throughout. The surprise cameo in the middle was amazing. I thought it did drag a bit in the middle, but not so much as to detract from the movie as a whole.

This is a common response. Does everyone wake up hearing things in the dead of night after watching this movie as well???

For starters, however sleepy we were feeling before the film started was all chased out of our eyes. Wife was shaking, holding my arm tight, and had tears in her eyes during the last 10-15 mins from sheer fright. (She definitely can't take a horror film, note to self -- better to stick to actioners and romancers for her)

We started to talk about other things to get our mind off this (like my brother-in-law's impeding wedding next month), and that got her to go to sleep but I was awake. It was tough even to go to sleep! Even the smallest of sounds (like the fridge's hum, or mother's coughing in her sleep) snapped my eyes wide open. Maybe she realised how shaken I was, and so she let me sleep till 11 50 AM this morning. That's right, I woke up at midday today!

It is definitely scary alright. This is coming from someone who has watched films such as Evil Dead, Exorcist and I Spit on your Grave and has gone to sleep soundly afterwards.

The 400 Blows (1959). Wow. How Truffaut brings to life the mundane aspects of a boy's life and turns them into engaging art is mystery to me. This is a heartfelt story about a rambunctious, and potentially artistic, boy without any direction in his life save a rather militant teacher and an accomplice of shenanigans. Forever in trouble, this poor kid takes the avenues of immaturity whenever possible, and these possiblilities are endless. With no role models, lying cheating and stealing become the norm, and we have a child that is scolded for wrong doings but nary advised otherwise. The acting was superb, the cinematography engaging, and the direction incredible. The story itself may have been a little flat, but the story is not really the point here. This classic was absolutely wonderful in ways that really defy description. Ashe.
