West
It's a story about living in Western Sydney which isn't a very interesting thing in the first place. But it holds up as a decent drama. 6/10 |
"Fingerprints" 3/10

The Children
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...hechildren.jpg Fantastic little indie horror film. Definitely captures a mood of threat and horror. Well-written, directed, and acted. I was definitely impressed at how successful the film was at creating a threat out of the kids involved. One of my favorite movies of 2009. Highly recommended. 4.5/5. |
The Objective – A decently interesting UFO thriller by Blair Witch director Daniel Myrick. It drags a bit in the middle, and doesn’t really pay off at the end, but it’s not a terrible journey.

Ready When You Are, Mr. McGill
A funny look at a fictional film set starring Bill Nighy. A good watch, but a lot of references to British television culture may leave some American viewers feeling a bit stranded. |
The Other Side
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...other_side.jpg Definitely low-budget and definitely enjoyable. The ending is a little Scooby Doo and silly, but hats off to the director, writer, and actors for pulling it off. Definitely fun. Loved the concept as well. This is the kind of thing that real indie horror movies should be made off. 3.75-4/5. |
Haha they ripped off The Sixth Sense's font with that one :)

Ken Russell's The Devils (1971)
This film is so many things. An irreverent, pointed hack-job of historical account (not unlike this year's Inglourious Basterds). A politically-charged drama. An horrific display of primal madness. But in essence it is a mind-blowing monolith of vicious, insane genius. Easily one of the most uncomfortable, disturbing films I've ever seen. Frightening in its implications, it's sure to move even the most thick-skinned, thick-headed viewer as it locates, then prods, then mutilates the area in which religion, love, madness, corruption, and redemption converge. Intermittently gorgeous and repulsive, but always outrageous, I'd say this film is for everyone, and especially for those with a confused, opaque (or perhaps obscured) worldview. But not everyone would realize that, or even make it through. The Devils is grotesque and blasphemous, even prurient in its execution, but exalted in its mission. |
"The other" 8/10
Very predictable yet very confusing. Terrific performances from the entire cast. Quote:
Ps. The scene where the russian woman is forcing the boy to say the name on the grave was sooooo "Turn of the screw". |

I loved this very stylished Brit thriller from the 60's by the guy who directed FRIGHT and STRAIGHT ON TILL MORNING (not to mention The Italian Job). 2 psychos home invade the penthouse of a couple having an affair and turn they life upside down - the dialogue is like a weird absurdist play which recalls the interaction of the droogs in A Clockwork Orange and the acid mad men of Killer's Moon... |
- the wizards of waverly place ... ugh
- the other boleyn girl - wonderful costumes - dull otherwise - the full length - 'making of' feature on the Frighteners - directors cut. i remember when the Pioneer Special Edition Laserdisc of this was going for a few hundred $$$ i picked up the DVD for $14. one of the best making of docs ever. |
The Messenger (2009)
An incredibly powerful story of 2 military men assigned to the thankless job of notifying the next of kin of fallen soldiers. Amazing dialogue, ethical debates, and without a doubt some of the year's best performances (Woody Harrelson is already up for a Golden Globe for his role, and I wouldn't be surprised if he'll be up for the Oscar as well.). Recommended to anyone looking for an intense, character-driven drama. Fantastic film. |
Went to see Avatar for the third time, with friends.

As much as I hate to say it, you might try to look for it on a torrent site or something. Of course I'd usually never condone that, but there's really nowhere else to see this film, unless you're lucky enough to catch it at a screening somewhere (but those are few and far between). And this is a film you really should see. |

You don't see nearly enough of the monster....... But it's still a bit of b-grade fun. 3.5/10 Werewolf in a girls dormitory This movie was twisting all over the place and not enough werewolf action. 2.5/10 She devils on wheels So cheesy and b-grade, bad acticng ect but great gore, a real mixed bag of a movie. 5.5/10 Foxy Brown Totally cool, Pam Grier is so god damn hot in this as well as cool. 9/10 |

Avatar (3d)
Haven't seen a non-red-blue 3d film before...it's come a long way and glad it didn't fuck with my eyes too much. I liked the better, less gimmicky use of 3d, not like having to have something flying out into the audience every few seconds, but seemed to make the depth of the scenery and characters greater? The storyline was pretty decent, it was one of the better scifi films I'd seen in some time. I liked looking at the alien world landscapes, even though I found the use of colour a little obsessive. Interesting creatures...and you can see the blue chicks titties like, the whole time... Probably go 8/10 for overall effect with this one. |
Go to see about 15 mins. of Avatar before my acid reflex started acting up and I had to leave.
Super pissed off about it. |

gots to go see this one real soon. |
We all have movies that we never got around to watching but are "on our list"
I have a few "Dances With Wolves" "Schindler's List" and the one I watched last night "The Shawshank Redemption". what a good movie. Why did I wait so long to see it? |

An Education (2009)
Aside from the horribly tacked on ending, I though this movie was wonderful - much to my surprise. Normally any movie whose plot description features the words "coming-of-age" doesn't exactly pique my interest, but there are certainly exceptions to the rule - An Education is definately one of them. It's the story of a teenage girl growing up in 1960's London whose number one ambition in life is to get accepted into Oxford (a goal presumably more important to her father, played by Alfred Molina in one of his best performances). Her life is completely turned upside down when she falls for a charming, charismatic "man of the world" - a man who also happens to be nearly twice her age. I don't want to give away too much of the plot...not everything that happens is overly shocking, but it does have a handful of interesting twists and turns. The cast is what makes it such a great movie though: Carey Mulligan plays the teenage Jenny with a deft mixture of naivete and wisdom, while Peter Sarsgaard plays the oily David with an unparalleled charm. I wasn't expecting much from this one, but I was very, very impressed. Absolutely worth a watch. The Lost (2006) Not really a very good film...but for some reason I still enjoyed it. The script is pretty disjointed: the plot is all over the place, most of the characters are either underdeveloped or are introduced only to disappear for the rest of the film, the actors are all completely over-the-top...but I think it was Marc Senter's absolutely bat-shit insane performance as the psychotic Ray Pye that kept me interested. He's not a particularly likable or interesting character, but Senter gives such a bizarre, unrestrained performance that even for all the flaws of the film, he kept my interest throughout. Wouldn't really recommend this one - but it's an interesting flick for sure. |
