I avoid any movie that has an Australian looking cover. |
Boy eats girl was actually a UK film to my knowledge.
...Fucking terrible one at that, trying to get on Shaun of the Dead's nuts for a younger, more stupid fuck audience. It was just trash. |
Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)
A true wonder; brings one back (or puts one back, rather) to a sense of awkward and wide-eyed childhood amazement. Times when grand adventures popped up at every corner, yet with those came insecurities, sometimes sadness, the mopes; all indicative of something bigger than you, some future lesson. Wes Anderson has captured this in a colorful, intimately-animated, tiny little world, one that's difficult to leave. Absurdly (and dryly) hilarious, melancholy, and constantly delightful. |

Doomsday I liked this one, not as much as I thought I would but I did enjoy. +1 stars for having a screaming, decapitated head hit the camera. |

Crank 2: High Voltage (2009). An unnecessary remake, they shoulda quit while they were ahead (i really enjoyed the first one). Ashe.

The Pianist. Brilliant film, compelling story. Brody is superb and Chopin was an unbelivable composer.

The second one, just felt like...a game expansion pack? Though perhaps if they worked on a storyline, and a less specific form of "energy generation" (hm...general Pain?) they could make the sequel they should have...probably beyond hope now though. Quote:

Blue Velvet (1986). This Lynch classic definitely deserves to be a classic. Though i probably need a couple more viewings to get most of the symbolism, i went away with enough of an understanding to be appropriately disturbed. Dennis Hopper definitely owns his psychotic role here, but it was well acted throughout. The scene with Dean Stockwell lip singin Roy Orbison's In Dreams was majestic. Great stuff. Ashe.

(still) Suspiria, Fargo, ANY "the shining", Jacobs ladder, 2001, Razorback, Rocky 1, 2, 3, 5, rosemarys baby, a simple plan, Heat, no country for old men, the andromeda strain, strangers on a train, Mad Max 2&3, any death wish films, Halloween: night of the witch, any psycho sequels...I got plenty... Saw some bits and pieces of the original NOTLD, pretty good background flick to have on. Just finished watching Mary and Max...bit difficult to sum it up really, kind of sad little film centered around a couple of slightly broken characters...with moments of happiness sprinkled throughout great humour and interesting perspectives on life regardless of "reason". On the whole though, this one exceeded my expectations by far. |

Terminator Salvation
*yawn* I don't think I've been so bored watching an action movie, nor ever cared so little about characters that I have loved in previous installments in a series. I think I got to about the halfway mark before I started looking at the clock and wondering when it would be over. It wasn't a bad movie per se, but given what the first two movies were like Salvation just felt hollow and lifeless. It didn't help having inane plot manipulation, gaping plot holes, and actors slipping in and out of their native accents. 4/10 at the very most. |
So you didn't think it was a slight step above T3...at all?

Star Trek (2009)- Weak.

Down By Law (1986)
Incredible. Completely self-contained; filmmaking at its most prime, its elements bare and all that happens within and to the viewer is simply because it was made that way. Humor doesn't get much dryer than this, also. |

-wow. |
I don't get the hate for Terminator: Salvation and Star Trek. I really enjoyed both flicks.
|
Out of the two, I probably thought Star Trek was better - though I didn't have much a problem with either, both met/exceeded expectations, both were better than the last franchise films previous them.
|
I gotta be honest and say I struggled to sit through Star Trek. Thought it was pathetic. Half the characters came across as a parody of the original the other half came across as a bunch of emo kids. I can't think of a single character from that film that I had any interest in. I haven't been that close to wanting to smash the TV since seeing Watchmen. I guess on a positive note I could say Star Trek was a bit better than Watchmen though. I also thought the opening scene was fairly good.

Amores Perros AKA Love's a Bitch (2000). Absolutely awesome Mexican flick that comes with one major warning. If you are an animal lover ya may want to stay away from this one (unless of course ya can completely divorce movies from the real world). The title is an apt one, for this is a painful study on the pain of love, both sexual and familial. The story was convoluted but never confusing, with a nice complement of drama and action. The acting was awesome, as was the direction and camera-work. The symbolism works wonderfully, and Cofi almost serves as the centerpoint to the fundamental meaning of this great movie. A long movie to be sure, i never found myself wondering when it would be over, and was actually found myself disappointed that it ended so soon.

i enjoyed star trek a lot - with the exception of simon pegg who was horribly miscast. the problem with terminatior was my expectations which were high. there was sucha 'christain bale' build up - and then he was in the film for 10 minutes - playing batman. i will say - i did like the new guy. i'll buy this and watch it again with readjusted expectations and i'll probably enjoy it a lot more |

I want to see Salvation, maybe I'll check that out this week, I honestly have enjoyed all 3 Terminator flicks so far so I can't see disliking the fourth. |

How was 100 Feet V? Big fan of Eric Red so I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I avoided most of the hype when it came to Terminator: Salvation and not being a fan of Bale I honestly wasn't expecting much especially after the third film which did have a couple of cool moments but lacked the more serious tone of the previous films. I think seeing Terminator: Salvation on the big screen help sway my judgement on it. The film was such and onslaught and I walked out of the theatre with my ears ringing! It's my favourite of the series after the original film and I'm amped on the rumoured further entries. |
