Where the Wild Things Are
A+ 5 STARS I have no idea why anyone could possibly bitch about this movie. Not like the book? uh, yeah, der...but it totally captured the magic. This movie was just that-fucking MAGIC. I LOVED IT. I will buy it when it comes out. Even my 3 years old was excited about this movie.."the BEST movie I ever seen!!" lol |
DRAG ME TO HELL
I enjoyed it. |

i loved the movie too .. beautifully shot and acted. but... a lot of people went to see this expecting a fun flick about a bunch of goofy cool animals and a kid, not a bittersweet tale about the pain of growing up, the isolation caused from divorce and age differences. the confusion that comes with everything changing around you - negative changes. not exactly a light hearted kiddie movie. i loved it - i was prepared for it - most people wont be. |
Gabriel (2007). My first impression was not that great, though i must admit that it was entertaining. It just felt like cheap plastic. i guess that the camera that they used was not that great, which probably added to the cellofane feel. Upon reading that it was made on a pretty measely budget (150,000 Aussie) i will try to be forgiving. Pretty light on character development, and the acting was all over the place, with the main villain's acting a sin in itself. Some of the other villains were pretty fun though. It was a typical light versus dark faire that used a dark gothic atmosphere to its advantage. Not bad, and a pretty decent study as to what can be made with a pretty cheap budget. Ashe.

Dead Kids
Great slasher with a good story line. 8/10 Inn of the damned This was one strange movie, not what I expected at all, the soundtrack was throwing me a bit. Worth checking out though. 7/10 |
Angel Face (1952). Fun little classic. Superb acting, a solid story, great direction, and a wonderful score make for a great flick. Ashe.

The Cooler
Have decent Vegas casino flick with William Macy his usual solid self, Maria Bello beautiful and Alec Baldwin as expressionless as ever. The Thomas Crown Affair Easy on the eye and even easier on the brain. While Rene Russo's see through dress is certainly a highlight the chemistry between her and Pierce Brosnan helps carry this one along. A good remake. |
"Tales From The Crypy: Demon Knight"
and "30 Days Of Night" |
Eraserhead on the big screen. quite an experience.

---------------------------------------- Paranormal Activity (2009) Well, I had originally planned to definitely not see this in theatres, but after all the surprising hype, I decided to anyway. And so I kind of wish I hadn't. [SPOILERS] Chrono already wrote up a good review in the Paranormal Activity thread, but what I'll say is that up until the end, the movie had me more or less sold. The acting was good. The pace was slow-burning, well-understated to accent its scares through negative space. I really enjoyed how the film even spent most of its time focusing on people rather than ghosts. It seemed to mainly document more-so the destruction of these two people's lives and relationship than the paranormal activity itself. However, these pros were ultimately drowned in bullshit. I thought the boyfriend was one of the most one-dimensional, unlikable characters I've seen in any recent movie. And the ending! Ugh! What were they thinking?! For a movie that's supposed to play as verité, anchored in realism, why the hell would they have her attack the camera (viewer) at the end? This directly address the audience. What cheeseball Hollywood bullshit. I couldn't believe it. Plus her CGI demon-face was incredibly unconvincing. [/SPOILERS] So anyway, some good scares, genuinely creepy moments, and good acting make it worth one watch maybe, but wait for the DVD. |
Motel Hell!

The Fly (1986)
The Fly II (1989) |
RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD III
Its been awhile since I've seen it.........pretty good and refreshing to see practical effects [ and a whole shit-load at that] over CGI. You can catch it on FEARNET |
Cabin Fever
I liked it. |
Battleship Potemkin (1925)
One of the very influential masterpieces in world cinema. The most noted sequence in the film, and perhaps in all of film history, is "The Odessa Steps". Hundreds of extras used to portrayed this shocking part and it was amazingly handled. The mother holding her dead child, the baby carriages sequence alone demonstrates both fine technical skill and a keen awareness of how to drive home an image to an audience. I guess it consider as one of cinema's best remembered sequences. A stunning piece of celluloid arts. >>: A The Thaw aka Frozen (2009) http://content6.flixster.com/movie/1...915024_pro.jpg A remote Arctic research station, prehistoric parasites, infections and then quarantine situation results the horror of global warming...yes, though there is perhaps nothing new to the plot but it still manages to be a decent watch overall. >>: B- Stan Helsing: A Parody (2009) http://shopping.yahoo.com/video/imag...83/2667183.jpg Only Diora Baird was the watchable thing in this stupid spoof! >>: D+ The Stepfather (1987) http://shopping.yahoo.com/video/imag...19/2666419.jpg 80's Psycho! Loved this one too. Terry O'Quinn was brilliant in the title role. >>: A- |

Got the John Carpenter Boxed set (ony €22 too). Hadn't seen it for some time - i remember it being good infact I prolly enjoyed it wasy more this time. Great plot and some excellent scenary chewing by Donald Pleasance. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...revelation.jpg Couldn't sleep last night and got up at 4.30am and watched this. Not completely terrible though pretty pointless remake - the ending was an improvment (and from what I under stand closer to the book.) |
Stephen King's NEEDFUL THINGS

Froze my ass off watching Gremlins and Texas Chainsaw Massacre on an outdoor screen last night. Then we got sick of being cold and went home to watch Session 9 with our new double date buddies.

Saw 6 - 4/5 stars

Evil Dead II
Now I'm off to see Saw VI and then Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight. |
Trans
Young criminal escapes from juvenile detention and goes on the run. Good indie flick with appropriate gritty feeling. Many scenes have an improvised feel to them. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. |
The Last house on the left (remake)
It's a really good home invasion flick, I think they should have given it a different title. But don't avoid it, see it soon. 7/10 Observe and report This was a strange flick, it went really dark a few times and I just felt wierd. But this made it really enjoyable instead of just another stupid comedy. 7.5/10 Bug So I finaly see it and it's not what I expect, it didn't do that much for me but is an interesting flick 6/10 Somthing weird Yes, it was weird, but enjoyable. I'm looking forward to watching more H.G movies, I just bought a bunch of them. 6.5/10 |
Saw VI - They didn't try for too many extreme twists or out-gore their previous efforts but instead made a flick that moved the overall story forward (albeit a bit slowly through a few too many flashbacks). I'm surprised that Saw has reached number VI without becoming a terrible franchise and there's real consistency in the quality of the films (although the 1st still stands tall as the best). I enjoyed it and will be happy to go next year around Halloween.
Rocky Horror Picture Show - Just washed the V off... hell of a show. The Tickled Fancy Burlesque Co. was there and did a pre-show as well as a stage show during the film dressed as characters. |
Return of the Living Dead 3.
Not a bad little diversion. Good effects and Kent McCord (whom I have not seen anywhere in a LONG time) lends an air of authority to his role. He did a fine job. |
The Abandoned (2006). A suprnatural horror flick with an amazing score and lots of disturbing imagery, but little more. Many people really seamed to have loved this one, and i could see why. My main disappointemnt was that this flick could have been so much more. First, we have rare a mid-forties lead actress in a horror film. There were so many ways that her character could have been developed, but instead she remains flat, leaving the viewer without any empathic ties. The story itself was also fresh. But instead of developing it with actual storytelling, this film falls back on disturbing imagery and again that wonderful score. While it is definitely worth a watch, so much more could have done to make this decent flick a great one. Ashe.

"the Fearless Vampire Killers"

The Messengers (2007)
Fairly standard stuff but there are some decent, atmospheric moments. My wife thought it was 'scary as hell' but she doesnt watch that many films. Its OK |
Saw 6 gets a 3/5. I thought it did a good job of clearing some shit up, but was really just mediocre. They've toned the traps down so much to accomodate for a wider audience but it took the tension and fun out of everything.

Mad Max 6/10
This was my first time watching this and I must say I'm very disapointed.I was hoping to see alot more carnage from Max but sadly there was only about 10 minutes of it. |
