Halloween II

Brutal...ultra violent. He set the tone right out the gates. I liked it more than his first revision. Lots of cool death scenes with a huge body count. I didn't like what the Laurie character became. Kinda cheesy. Other than that worth the ticket price.

Elvis_Christ 09-01-2009 08:57 PM

Man I'm getting bummed I can't see Halloween II yet :(

I thought the ending twist was a surprise, but then mainstream makers these days keep trying to give something new in their flicks, so why should this indie director be behind? All in all, for an indie flick, I thought it was pretty decent.

And Amber...oh boy she makes my heart go thump! thump!

Thought it was pretty good overall. Not to over the top like alot of films thses days.

Fallen (1998). The whole way through this one i felt that i must had seen it before but could not for the life of me remember any of it. Pretty good Hollywood horror-lite flick with that tense "no way out" feeling early on. The ending, which was in itself good, was unfortunately too easy to figure out. Maybe i did see it before. Still a pretty decent watch. Ashe.

I had that feeling too...probably that Shocker was more or less the same thing with electricity in place of voodoo or whatever was in Fallen.
Didn't like Fallen that much though, not sure why. It was ok I guess.

Tombs of the Blind Dead (1971)

A very slow-burning zombie flick, but it has some really cool atmosphere and the Templar themselves are probably the creepiest looking undead I've seen in a long time. Looking forward to checking out the rest of the series.

Zombi 2 (1979)
not to old. but a fucking amazing movie non the less.

Halloween II (2009)

An improvement over the last one for sure, but still nothing overly special. I really liked the more surreal aspects - the scenes with Sheri Moon Zombie as Micheal's mother were easily the best moments of the film - but otherwise it's just your typical slasher. It's ultra-violent like you'd expect from Zombie, but unlike the violence in something like Devil's Rejects, this just seems pointless most of the time. None of the kills have any tension or inventiveness...it's just a big motherfucker crashing through walls and stabbing people a shitload of times. Sure, it's brutal and gory, but it gets old pretty quick. Not to mention Zombie's awful dialogue...

Still, it has some decent moments here and there. Nothing I'd recommend, but if you liked the first one you'll like this too.

the last movie i saw was flight of the living dead. fucking killer. i love zombie movies so i was a fan for sure. it was pretty cool. it was like a cheesy movie. a lot better then having dumb ass snakes on a fucking plane. it was pretty good.

**SPOILER**
i loved it all. a great movie to me. it was pretty fucking brutal though. i believe that laurie is going to escape and start to kill people herself. cause of how the movie ended. no more michael, but now angel.

Inglorious Basterds... in the theater... again... And just as good. Good GOD Christoph Waltz is an amazing villain. Still highly recommend this one. The audience applauded in the end.

5/5.

Yeah, same thing happened both times I saw it, too. The first time I saw it on opening night. The theatre was packed and the applause was quite loud afterward.

The Elephant Man (1980)

A total heart-wrenching real life story of an Englishman named John (/Joseph) Merrick who become known as The ELEPHANT MAN because of his deformed physical appearance. Lynch masterfully put us on a heavy emotional journey that takes us get inside the man and his tortured existence. An uniquely unforgettable masterpiece that makes us truly sorry but doesn't actually care for our blind pity. The film asks for our respect, not cry for Merrick. But eventually it's very hard to resist ourselves from doing that. One of the greatest lines comes when Merrick's fellow "freaks" in the circus help him escape and said "Good luck, my friend. And who needs it more than us?" A must see for everyone to know & see the deformed face of 'humanity' in this cruel ugly world.

Totally agree. At first I had thought it would be a cheap Exorcist rip-off but there are themes which make it very different. One of the VERY FEW movies in which incest takes centre-stage right in the middle of a flick.

(Come to think of it, I cant think of many other US flicks, more so US horror movies, in which incest plays such a dominant role)

And its all complimented quite nicely by the shocker of an ending. I was slightly disappointed by the anti-climactic ending of the original flick earlier, but this fits the bill of a companion piece quite perfectly. Nice overlooked flick.

alkytrio666 09-03-2009 06:08 AM

V and EC, I totally agree. I've always thought Amityville 2 was an absorbing and intruiging sequel, and I would even consider ranking it above the original.

Yep it is definitely a notch above, considering the very anti-climatic ending of the original.

My Bloody Valentine in 3D. I couldn't really get to grips with the whole thing, so next week I'll probably watch the normal version on Side A.

Crank (2006). This one surprised me by being much better than iexpected. In fact, i thought it was a blast. The guys that put this together must have had a lot of fun and it shows. Very fun and entertaining flick. Ashe.

I wanted to watch Marathon Man but somehow ended up watching that one. I still like The Last Man on Earth better but Heston's flick isn't horrible.

Gamer (2009)

Loud, dark, cynical and absolutely chaotic...I thought it was a blast. It takes the overdone formula of stuff like Rollerball and The Running Man and puts a killer edge on it.

Micheal C. Hall gives a super entertaining performance - nice to see him in full on bad guy mode, he does it well. His "Got You Under My Skin" number has to be one of the coolest action scenes that I've seen in a long while.

I can see a lot of people hating this one - the hyper-kinetic editing gets old really fast, Butler's character is pretty generic, and there might be a few little lapses in logic...but I had a great time and really, if you liked Crank you'll like this too. Neveldine and Taylor are a pair to keep an eye on, they've done some exciting stuff so far.

The Time Traveler's Wife (2009)

I'm a sucker for time travel...and I may or may not have a huge crush on Rachel McAdams, so between the two I had to see this one despite how sappy it looked. In all honestly it was pretty saccharine in places, but the concept was different and intriguing enough to keep my interest. McAdams and Bana both give solid performances, and even though there really aren't many surprises the offbeat nature of the story makes for some decent moments.

It's fluff for sure, but at least its a twist on the typical formula. I've seen worse.

PS - Hey V (or anyone else that's seen it), would the new Final Destination be worth checking out if it's not in 3-D? I'm considering checking it out tomorrow, but the theatre I'd be going to only has it in 2-D. Still worthwhile? I honestly don't think it looks great in the first place, but I have nothing else to do tomorrow and I'm living close to a discount theatre (hence the above viewings) so I'm debating giving it a look-see anyway.

The first 10 minutes I was thinking "This is fucking stupid"....by the 15 minute mark I was having a ball........hysterical movie with some great action as well.

The theatre I saw it in was 2D. It was pretty impressive in 2D itself so I d say go check it out.
