The Sentinel (1977)--I'd never seen this movie before, and while it's not perfect, it's pretty damn good; better than most that are coming out anymore.

KM 31: Kilometer 31 (2006)
http://shopping.yahoo.com/video/imag...32/2336232.jpg A Mexican Horror that's pretty inspired by Asian Horror films like Ringu & Ju-On. Overall, not a bad effort at all and had some decent creepy moments & nice dark atmosphere but bit unoriginal and got one or two cheap plot twists in the story. Some online sources are confirming that a sequel is developing by the same director as it's been regarded as the highest-grossing horror film of Mexico. >>: B Sylvia (2003) Watched it just for Gwyneth Paltrow & Daniel Craig. >>: B- Green Lantern: First Flight (2009) http://l.yimg.com/eb/ymv/us/img/hv/p...mallboxart.jpg >>: B- Bane (2008) http://shopping.yahoo.com/video/imag...62/2659262.jpg >>: D |
The Seventh Seal. Brilliant! Ashe.

Feels good to put the brains on the shelf and enjoy one of these fast-paced actioners with an all-star cast. Its pretty much Kurt's flick and Seagal's great in his cameo. David Suchet is, however, horribly miscast and cant even hide his accent. Shame to see such a talented actor get a hard bargain in this. Leguizamo and the rest round up decently enough. And Halle Berry...boy, was she a dish when she was younger! |

Return of the Living Dead: Part 2. Eh. Wasn't horrible or anything. Stuck to the original's roots enough that it was an amusing sequel. However... It was pretty boring. |
I always thought that return 2 felt like a remake of the first...?
Not sure though, haven't seen ANY of those in a while...never checked out the last "new" 2 either, they don't look great. Just bought Critters 1-4, watched 1&2 so far. I have fond memories of these - They're stupid, and pretty funny...though I really love some of the sci-fi elements in the first one, and the alien designs (the critters, the no-faces, the random aliens the bounty hunters go after, the fat floaty guy warden) are pretty damn cool, you ask me. Not quite as scary as when I was a kid, actually pretty much not scary at all. But a good entertaining cheesy ass product of the 80's. Also been watching on dvd, this BBC show called "Jekyll". Fuckin' hell, this is a kick-ass show. |
ROLTD Part II is basically the first movie all over again with a softer "family" approach to the story. I've got the last two flicks but haven't got round to checking them out. I love the third flick.
Caught some of Jekyll on TV earlier in the year it looked pretty decent have to hire the DVD if I see it. Watched Blue Demon last night... laughably bad killer shark flick. |

For All Mankind (1989)
A refreshing documentary because of its immersive, hypnotic style and its organic simplicity. It isn't so much educational but rather a sensual experience, and when you're done with it you feel exhilerated and renewed. Interviews come second to the lunar footage, and instead of being the main focus of the film they're more a guiding narration. Often times the appollo missions are reflected upon inaccessably, but here they are presented as the unreal dreams they actually were; the human beings who walked on the moon seem just as perplexed and bewildered by the experience as we are. |

The Hurt Locker
most realistic war movie I have ever seen. give it a watch asap |
Silent Night, Bloody Night (1974)--Awesome. Low production value, and the plot is pretty far-fetched, but genuinely creepy, the way that only the old films seem to be capable of.
|
Critters 3&4.
3 was pretty shit, 4 was surprisingly good (loosely, comparatively) for the "in space" episode of the series. |
Revolver(2005). This was a pretty fun watch except when it became obtrusively ambitious in its painful efforts to expound upon its philosophic message and its mystical foundations. Ashe.

Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning. After hearing that this one was the lesser of the three, i finally got around to seeing it. Just as good, and ultimately dark, as the others. Ashe.

Feast.
Basically inspired of From Dusk Till Dawn, a good movie with a strong scenario, but the action scenes are too dark and flickering. 7/10 |
The Warriors

Been really sick lately so I've gone through a ton of movies.
Wanted to show Derek some classics with: TCM (1974) Freaks (This had to be my favourite for sure.) At Midnight I'll take your Soul This Night I'll Posess Your Corpse A Freddy night where we watched every NOES film, excluding Freddy vs. Jason. Had a Milla Johovich night last night and watched: Ultraviolet The Fifth Element Resident Evil RE Appocolypse (We also played throught RE5 game in one night.) Some other randomly seen movies that we're on TV and the like: TinMan (series that played on the SciFi network. Loved this.) Willard (remake) Crank (really fun movie, made me laugh a lot when I was feeling pretty down.) Death Ship (not a great movie, but gets B-movie cred for having ghostly nazi's) |
Runaway Train
This was awesome. Jon Voight is badass! Cheers for the reminding me about this one ____V____ I enjoyed it a lot. Quote:

- tango and cash ... still a shitty movie
- Rocky Balboa - not bad - but very redundant - g.i. joe ... liked it far more than i thought i would. the pace is kept so crazy fast that you dont have time to realize how mindless it is until after it ends. there were some pretty fun action sequences and it was fairly well sewn together. first shine of hope since Deep Rising for this director. |

I'm a pretty big Sly fan and a sucker for older action flicks. I got a copy of Night Of The Juggler I'll have to flip your way. Takes me ages to send shit overseas but I'll sort it one day :)

Nice! whereabouts did you find Night Of The Juggler?

'A Haunting in Connecticut'
Better than expected ghost story. Based loosely on true events. I enjoyed it. "Friday The 13th" (2009) Exactly as expected. I got a few laughs out of it, but nothing more. "The Fog" (1980) One of my favorite John Carpenter films. "The Fog" (2005) I don't know why everyone hated this remake. It's not that bad. Not as good as the original, but as far as remakes go, it was all right . |

The script, cinematography, sequences and atmosphere are still amazing. And yep, Voight and Roberts kick ass. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA240_.jpg |
The Psychic aka Seven Notes in Black (1977)
http://shopping.yahoo.com/video/imag...49/1294449.jpg A perfectly well crafted murder mystery from Italian gore maestro which hardly qualifies as a Giallo. But that doesn’t matter at all. Yeah..may be the body count was extremely low and the gore was mostly absent but Fulci in his own style manages to build and hold the tension and suspense brilliantly throughout the movie. A must see for Fulci fans. >>: A- What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) It's about a small town, Endora, where nothing ever happens with going nowhere people. A simple town where people find excitements when a mentally challenged boy climbs the town water tower or at the arrival of 'Burger Burn' into their locality. And in this town the twenty-year-old Gilbert Grape (Johnny Depp), takes us on a journey through his everyday life with his fatherless family. Gilbert tries to do good for everyone but doesn't know quite what he wants for himself actually. He’s sensitive and lovingly protective for his mentally challenged younger brother Arnie, less understanding of the plight of his grossly overweight mother. The film nicely blends with comedy, drama, love and everyday emotion, perfected with beautiful cinematography and superb directing; nonetheless with a brilliant cast. The performances of Johnny Depp, Darlene Cates and Juliette Lewis are unparalleled and truly wonderful. The biggest surprise was DiCaprio as Arnie, the performance that makes this film a must see. Moreover, it was nice to have some little comic relief from the city coroner Bobby (Crispin Glover) and the local handyman (John C. Reilly). Perhaps it’s not a ground breaking or too spectacular film with an extraordinary storyline. But surely is a very beautiful and touching movie that will always have a special place in my heart. >>: A The Chaos Experiment (2009) >>: C- |
Haunting in Connecticut - enjoyed it. Made me jump a couple of times
The Horsemen - excellent! Highly recommend it. |

Palance is the one thing i like about this movie .. everything else is rediculously lazy, slippy and cliched. i understand the appeal this would have as 'camp' but its been done a lot better. I love Russell.. he's one of my favorite actors - but all i felt was embarrasement for him. and brion james in that fucking horrible accent... and Michael J. Pollard in his pattented 'retard' roll.. and james hong, and ... fuck it - everyone should have been embarrased to be in this mess ... just too childish for me .. |
Just remembered......I also watched "Gettysburg" yesterday.

Alien Raiders
Pretty lame cheap made monster movie. Nothing really happens till right at the end. Nothing origanal here, but not all bad I supose, just nothing to write about. Well except for what I just wrote. 4/10 |

At the Earth's Core (1976)--A classic among the "so bad it's good" movies. All it needed was Caroline Munro doing a slave girl dance. And boobs--unfortunately it was PG.

Fearless Vampire Killers (1967) : For another time. This movie is a cult that everyone should see. A good parody of the classic vampire movie signed Roman Polanski.
P2 : The Team of High Tension did a great job again. |
Lizard in a Woman's Skin (1971)
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/974...nwomanskin.jpg There's no faceless or black-gloved maniac on the loose, so the body count is absurdly low compared to other 'typical' giallo. But it’s a fantastic stylish Giallo from Fulci. The vivid colors, a chase through the catacombs of a church, a lounge soundtrack, bat attack, tits, lesbian love, madness…all masterfully worked in this bit complicated but fascinating plot. The film also takes its time establishing the outline of its central puzzle and where the various characters fit into it. Fortunately that puzzle happens to be a good, engaging mystery. Despite a relatively small pool of suspects, one's guesses as to whodunit will have to be reevaluated with each new twist in the plot. Fulci fabricated the whole thing by employing a host of stunning visual techniques. There's one disturbing scene, in which Caron (the lead) somehow stumbles across a lab in a hospital, with eviscerated but still-living dogs hanging over buckets. Fulci made it eerily realistic. >>: A- Second Coming (2009) http://static.moviegallery.com/image...art/152395.gif >>: D+ |
