Leon':The professional



Fucking awsome movie.

i know this is the unpopular thing to say - but she doesnt do it for me .. i dont know why - she's the type i would normally like - but in her case she just leaves me (literally and figuratively) flat.
I'm not delusional enough to say she's not attractive .. she is .. just not appealing to me.

The Toxic Avenger III: The Last Temptation Of Toxie

Never read the book so dont have that for a frame of reference. I think this film means alot to me mainly because its the first film I really remember watching. The message didnt mean much at the time, it was just the spectacle that drew me in and at the time (I was about 6 at the time) it was a really scary film. I will always hold this in high affection but the religious aspect of it is too heavy handed for cynical wretch like me.

(not to dispell your personal enjoyment of the george pal version of the film - but because its a good read)

you will come out of it understanding my dissapointment on the vesions of this film made so far though.

its supposed to take place turn of the century england..

they were trying to battle the tripods with the old artillery shells ..

it made for a far more intense and frightening (or it would be if they stuck to the story for a movie)

We were force fed shit like Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Wuthering Heights (which I quite like to be honest).

I am lacking a book to read at the moment so will definately box it off and with a open mind compare and contrast the two.

wuthering heights is a great book ... some consider it a ghost story :)

3 Extremes, liked all the stories a lot. Found Takishi Miike's a little tame in comparison not only to the others but his usual stuff.

First off, I should say that Im not sure if I watched the Director's Cut or the original version. I downloaded it not long ago, and the file didn't specify which version it was. Anyway, on with the review. I really didn't know what to expect from this movie, having heard many different opinions over the last little while. After watching it, Im still not sure what I thought of it. While I didnt like his character very much, it's hard to deny that Jake Gyllenhaal gave a very good performance asthe title character. Something about him just seemed out of place and strange, which suited the character well. I dont think there was a single likeable character in this film, except maybe Donnies girlfriend. I dont see what everyone finds so hard to get about the ending, I thouhgt it was a good ending, dont get me wrong, but pretty straight forward. Overall, I'd recomend seeing this one, but I wouldnt buy it. More of a curiosity than anything.

EDIT - I did think that it was a nice touch casting real-life siblings Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal as siblings in the film.
