I thought Mean Girls would Suck, But what a Laugh! It was awsome. And well, having both Lindsay" THE JUGS" Lohan and Lacey" OH MY GOD this was the little girl on Party of Five"Chabert in the same movie gave it one big stiffy up!:p

I haven't seen The Brood in years. Haven't even thought about it in years, actually. I need to get me a copy. I have a great appreciation for Cronenberg.

Last movie I watched was Hellraiser.

werwulf 05-08-2005 09:09 PM

love Clive Barker. Loved Hellraiser. As a matter of fact, I can't think of a bad adaptation of a Barker book. Unlike Stephen King. As for Cronenberg, I think the Brood is probably his best. That or The Fly.

Well there was Rawhead Rex....but I can just pretend that one doesn't exist most of the time.....:D I am a huge Barker fan.

I love Cronenberg's remake of The Fly. But I think Videodrome is my favorite of his. Or maybe Spider.

I loved Rawhead Rex, aside from the low buget, it was spot on with the short story. Haven't seen Spider, but that's one of the "Cronenberg didn't do that" movies, kind of like Crash and M. Though, I am repulsed but also strangely drawn to Crash .

Yes, I have friend that would defend Rawhead Rex to the death I think. I just don't get it, I think it is a horrible mess.
Crash is an excellent film in my opinion, but it isn't for everyone. I have no desire to see it again, but I think it was done very well. Give Spider a chance though, if you are so inclined. It is different for sure, but I think it is a very intriguing movie.

urgeok 05-09-2005 02:52 AM

i didnt get Crash at all .. i wanted to like it - i like the actors involved .. it was all shot where i live ...
but the subject material - i couldnt relate -
i need to relate to something to enjoy a movie - but i didnt understand where anyone was coming from ...

i just bought the criterion release.

my favorite cronenberg is shivers/they came from within (usa title)

last seen movie :

Intolerable Cruelty ... more genius from the Coen Brothers.
George Clooney - great as ever. (the most underrated actor working today)

I love the way that he isnt afraid to look goofy .. i.e. when he wakes up with bed head .. its really bed head .. not these perfect coifs you see in most movies

slasherman 05-09-2005 08:51 AM

"Long Weekend"(1978)....an Austrian thriller about two lovers who get stucked in the woods...a little boring...but watchable
Seen the hole "Evil Dead Trap"......was more a splatter than a slasher.... :(

Which version did you get, the Anchor Bay or the 25th anniversary edition? I liked this movie, but not as much as I like SHOCK WAVES. Nazi's, Zombies and Brook Allan, always a good combo!

The Dreamers - Bernardo Bertolucci

French film, italian director.

the second foreign film in one day that dealt with a lovers triangle .. this one being a bit weirder (as a brother-sister were 2 sides of the triangle.

the gilr in this one was breathtaking .. Zwoti - take note .. you'll like this one.

i suddenly had a realization.

a 3some movie with 2 guys and 1 girl - is always a serious art drama.

a 3some movie with 2 girls and i guy - is usually a raunchy comedy ..

I tend to feel that way also, that is why I don't feel the need to see it ever again. I didn't enjoy it. In fact, I was downright uncomfortable through a lot of it. But I still think it is a good film. Let's just say I have an appreciation for what Cronenberg was trying to do and I think he did it very well. But I completely understand why Crash wouldn't exactly be well-liked.

haven't seen that in years .. always on the lookout for it ...

another very cool Hemmings movie is Fragment of Fear that came out a few years after Blow-Up.
I saw it ages ago and it still haunts me .. I'l love to get my hands on it again.

urgeok 05-10-2005 07:22 AM

continuing my own foreign film festival, i watched verhoeven's Turks Fruit (Turkish Delight)

Very earthy ...More sex, more loss ...

these europeans make great films but holy shit ... not a lot of happy endings kids.

the pennance for natural beautiful nudity .. appears to be death.

i'll tell you .. that in the last 3 movies i've watched .. i've seen more dick than George Michaels at a private bathhouse.

urgeok 05-10-2005 09:56 AM

collateral.

liked it .. typical Mann .. tightly wound .. and great pacing ..

Less of the usual emphasis on the music this time .. wit the exception of one shitty song in the middle ..
He's usually a lot more plugged in to what the kids are into ...
I mean - music was there, and figured throughout the film .. but its more laid back .. probably because Mann is a lot older now.

you must be talking about the scene they were at a light and the wolf/dog(could really tell which) went across the street?......

I liked the realizism, for example the scene in the alley after those guys take his briefcase.
