Evil Dead. Figured i should finally see this one.

Fourteen Hours (1951)
A studio thriller which found a nice medium between heavy psychological case study and crows-pleasing popcorn entertainment. There's no time wasted on preliminaries- the story begins where it ends, on the high ledge of a hotel room hundreds of feet above New York City. The film boasts a superb supporting cast; a young Grace Kelly appears in a minor role and Paul Douglas provides a strong backbone as an average-Joe traffic cop thrown in the middle of a suicidal kid and the city sidewalks. Most impressive of all, however, is the always phenomenal Barbara Bel Geddes, an underrated actress best known for her shadow-support work in 'Vertgo'. She is the subtle essence of this film, a sweet, believable girl who doesn't know much about love or life but who tries her hardest to make things work anyway. Her heart-felt performance brings the picture together, emotionally, and casts a terrifying innocence on her lover's death wish. The film is slow-moving, and at times the man on the ledge (Richard Basehart) seems frustratingly thick-headed, but strong back-up characters keep the story engaging, and an acrophobic art design keep things tense. |

The Haunting of Sorority Row AKA The Deadly Pledge (2007)
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/615/hosr1.jpg Predictable ghost story (made for TV) about revenge from beyond the grave that creates havoc in a collage sorority house. Pretty mediocre but not too bad. >>: C |
Candy Stripers
A group of hospital nurses are taken over by aliens and, using their feminine wiles, lure unsuspecting patients and co-workers to their doom! Only a hospitalized basketball player and his friends can stop them. I'll generously call this enjoyable nonsense. |
- Body Heat .. 1st time revisiting this modern noir classic in a long time ... great film ... almost stolen out from under the leads by a very young mickey rourke.
- three Men and a Baby ... say what you will - the baby was incredibly cute and made this dated pedestrian film work far better than it should have. |
Grosse Pointe Blank
Very cool movie. John Cusack is pretty near the top of his game in this one, and the supporting cast is stellar - Alan Arkin, Dan Aykroyd, Minnie Driver, Jeremy Piven, Hank Azaria...everyone is perfect in their roles. Any fans of dark comedy that haven't already seen this owe it to themselves to do so...great cast working from a dark and snappy script with some fantastic dialogue. I really enjoyed it. |
The hitcher
liked this a good deal, Rutger Hauer was intense. Caught the Incredible Hulk again, not nearly as cool on a 20 inch than in the theatres. |
Eden Lake
Very good film, quality performances and genuinely tense. A little time is spent developing the characters which makes all the difference when the shit hits the fan. The pace of the movie was spot on and I think the younger actors involved deserve a mention for their respective portrayals, all very realistic yobbos! However I do have a complaint.................................. **************SPOILER********************* They've made the effort to make this as realistic as possible, putting our two characters in a horrific situation at the hands of the teenagers. The build up to the torture and how Brett bullies and threatens the others into helping him is powerful and perfectly feasible. The way he so casually burns the young boy alive was a bit of a stretch, almost a throw away shock moment, but ok I'll go along with it. The problem is the end. When Jenny stumbles into the middle of the party, it not only just happens to be Bretts family house, but out of all the people there not one single person thought to call the police or ambulance? When Bretts family decide to kill Jenny only one person questions it before a quick shrug of the shoulders and acceptance, no-one tries to stop it???? It was way too much of a stretch to accept that. It left a sour taste which was a shame. *************END OF SPOILER***************** Other than that, it was excellent! Go see |
Eden Lake was pretty cool my complaint was that the main characters were a little spineless. As for the ending I can see that happening in reality among certain circles.
Last Watched: Nightmare City Finally got round to this... great fun and a novel twist on the zombie flick. I didn't think much of the ending and thought it could've ended more effectively without the **SPOILER**nightmare sequence**SPOILER** giving it a really bleak feel. Some of the face people pulled when they were killed had me laughing my ass off! |

River's Edge
Been meaning to watch this one for a long while now...glad I finally did. Really powerful flick, one of those movies that almost makes you feel dirty after watching it. The apathy of the main characters is nothing short of disturbing, and the actors are all spot on. Daniel Roebuck gives the kind of performance that just sends chills down your spine - his speech by the river had me completely spellbound. Crispin Glover is manic as always but it suits his character, and Dennis Hopper pulls off a damn scary performance (as per usual). Pretty sure it was Elvis that recommended this in the first place - thanks for the suggestion man. |

The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970) http://shopping.yahoo.com/video/imag.../19/208019.jpg Billy Wilder took an interesting look on the dark & sad side of the World's greatest detective in this hilarious mystery adventure; but there were more than that...mysterious French woman, Mycroft Holmes played by Christopher Lee, midgets, Scotland, the Queen and last but not the least the Loch Ness Monster! A fun watch indeed with quite a sad ending. >>: B The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) Klaatu barada nikto! >>: B+ The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) ...a complete mess! Where the hell they got the idea to transform Gort. into destructive insects!?! >>: D |
I wouldn't mind checking out the original Day The Earth Stood Still before I brave the remake... especially since everyone's making it sound like a shitfest.

The Crippled Masters
This is one awesome kung fu movie, you have got to see it. 8.5/10 Demon seed Ahh, this is that movie, pretty cool, glad I decided to watch it. I can't believe I hadn't seen it before. 7/10 Altered I thought this was pretty average, it seemed like it was part 2, it left to many questions unanswered and contradicted itself in the end I thought, I found it a bit frustrating. 4/10 |

Intensity Part 1 & Intensity Part 2.
Two part TV movie adapted from the same Dean Koontz book that High Tension took as its source. It's very apparently a TV movie, with the same lack of style you find in most, and the same range of TV actors. John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox from Scrubs) stars as the killer. The story is told in a straightforward manner, with none of the mind games & tricks that High Tension used, but also not nearly the level of brutality, violence, tension or gore. As High Tension only adapted the first half of the book, it's interesting to see what else was in the book. Also worth a look if you're a McGinley fan. Other than that, only mildly interesting. |
Night of the Comet
Lame, lame, lame, I liked the idea of it, but it was just nothing. There was 2 zombie scenes and one was a dream sequence. The zombies looked cool, it would have been better if it focused on them. 3/10 |
