If you don't know Laura Barns, you should probably delete it. It's probably Laura Barns, but it could be a fake account too.

I've deleted requests. Sometimes responded to requests, "how do you know me?"; if it's not a good answer: 'delete'.

Does that help? ::cool::

Yours was like a voice crying in the desert...

Most HDCs didnt think much of it; 42% RT. Id watch it if it came to netflix.

Let's try 61% on rt? User ratings for horror movies are always ridiculously low.

I tend to go by user rating because the volume of voting is literally 200 times larger... compared to RTs critics list, which has become more like a list of bloggers. All the more important, for a film like Unfriended, it's not a Nineteen Eighty-four remake, it doesnt require a PhD of film to gauge its intricacies & value; you know what I mean?

I typically don't like the user rating because a lot of people either vote 1/2 or 5 or just don't know how the rating system works and will just put a random vote. I still take the critics percent with a grain of salt. I really only look out of curiosity, but it does help me tell other people if critics liked it or not. It's ultimately your call. You should make your own opinion.

I really hope Netflix gets it. Personally I really would like to see it. Even if it's bad, it's a unique idea on a modern take on real world events with teen suicides and the bulling that leads up to it many times. It's a dark topic, but who doesn't love a good revenge story from beyond the grave. ::smile::

A majority of the people who didn't like it thought it was bad because none of the characters were very likable, but aren't all teenagers kinda unlikable? I'm just used to stupid teens because, well, I am one. That's why I didn't mind it.

Characters being likable is a piss poor excuse. For one it's a revenge story, so WHY would you want to like them? And name one teenager in (for example) the Fri13th films that was likeable. And yet that's a classic. I personally find joy out of watching teens get axed after witnessing how arrogant they are in real life. Some need a machete or bus to the face.

You can't think of ONE teen from the F13 movies that was likable? Through all those films? not one???::shocked::

Agreed. I like the concept & want to see how they pull it off.

Dont have to always like the characters... breaking rules can work, but you better be really good in other areas, & probably short.

F-13 is a 'classic', captured the title of the simple kills & titts formula, but it's not great film. Halloween was a much better 'slasher' film, with likeable characters.

Susan is adopted, but Johnny Storm is not?

So Sue's God parents were black? I could see that; just really obscure. But why not just make all of them black except Ben Grimm? Is a black Dr harder to believe than a black family adopting white girl? No, it's not. Why choose to misstep? Now the film is at 09% at RT, & will be a financial flop.

Who would have thought that the superhero flick would be panned and the thriller would be praised.

Okay so maybe out of ALL of them I can think of one or two I hoped would make it to the end. The characters in the original 3 though... no. I didn't even care when Kevin Bacon was axed.

EXACTLY. And most times they break said rules they think they're pulling it off and making the other areas work, when they're actually making a train wreck.

It was just an example. I need to rewatch the Halloween series. I only watched each one once and it was before I ever watched Fri13.

Those are actually two of the people I was thinking about in my last post! lol
I don't know if I was rooting for them cause I didn't want the baby to be an orphan or if I admired their relentlessness to try and survive. I did feel for the guy being framed and all. Made him quite interesting and with all the shit he went through you just wanted him to have a happy ending.

Very true. Im glad the Horror genre seems free to try new things, but the slasher got boringly formulaic real fast.

The original Halloween is the only excellent film of the series. (critics/ratings confirm that assertion). A lot of Horror fans like them all. Halloween 2 has some effective moments, but coincidentally, doesnt develop likable characters. Even lovable Laurie is reduced to a blubbering mute who simply moves to different rooms; while even The Bogeyman & Loomis arent developed.

MichaelMyers 08-09-2015 11:35 AM

You want character development go watch Schindler's List. Sculpt you might like The Notebook. ::big grin:: The purpose of Michael Myers was an ABSENCE of character smh.

If a villain doesn't have some personality, they're just another boring bad guy. Look at Freddy or Pinhead. They're some of the best horror villains because of their personalities.

Sure, sure, some folks can ride the repetitive titillation of kills &/or titts, & dont need anything else from a film. Thats just more films for them, but that doesnt make them good films, nor good Horror films.

With Halloween 78, I was into the mysterious development of the Boogeyman. (Myers did have character, the supernatural elements, falling & getting back up, wearing mask, tilting his head like a dog, not speaking, stopping until he put his mask back on... made his character not Michael Meyers but a man becoming the Boogeyman.)While it also developed the other characters. You saying Horror is better without it? "Horror" without story is just porn. Im not less of a Horror aficionado because I know porn is lacking.

I like good films from any genre. I like the character development in Halloween 78, Shindlers list, Alien, Fight Club, The Ring, whatever, that only enhances my appreciation for the elements & execution of good Horror. Like I said, char development or likeable chars isnt a requirement, but leaving it out doesnt mean its good Horror either.
