I've been enjoying the Fantomas serials. Truly old school serial storytelling, improbable, funny and smart.

Those are so great. If you dig them, you should check out Feuillade's other serials, especially Les vampires and Judex.

What???!!! Really???!!! *runs off to Netflix*

Sculpt 05-06-2013 02:33 PM

Speaking of Josh Whedon (maker of cabin in the woods). Like some have posted, this isn't horror, but I saw a very good short x-men anime series written by Josh Whedon called the astonishing x-men. It's for adults, but it's not risque, it's just not kiddie. They are short 11 min episodes done in an unusual anime style. On netflix.

I also just saw recently saw Passion of the Christ for the first time on netflix last night.

C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America (2004)

http://www.cinemablend.com/images/re...6111203970.jpg

Interesting documentry about what would have happened if the South had won the War of Northern Aggression. It might be a little heavy handed for most but I found it hit more than it missed.

The Black Klansman (1966)

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WIL9bKhTfv...lackposter.jpg

Entertaining, low budget exploiter from Ted V. Mikels. Black Man passes for white to get revenge on the Klan who killed his daughter (this plot seems to be recycled many times I think I Spit on your Grave from 59 was one of the first). Max 'the MAck Julien also has a small role.

Thank you for reminding me about that movie. A friend told about that movie a long time ago. Got to see it.

NICE! I love that part - So absurd and creepy.

Oooo - Thanks for the heads up on John Dies at the end... And Ferox, I think you just made my morning...

hammerfan 05-08-2013 06:04 AM

They just put House at the End of the Street on streaming.

Ferox13 05-08-2013 08:54 AM

I actually made that one myself too.

Craigslist Joe (2012)

http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV..._V1_SX214_.jpg

In a time when America's economy was crumbling and sense of community was in question, one guy left everything behind to see if he could survive solely on the support and goodwill of the 21st century's new town square: Craigslist.

I really enjoyed this - it was a bit like one of the vice docs with a more likely character.

ChronoGrl 06-05-2013 11:32 AM

Been watching a LOT of stuff on the Netflix...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps112b3d92.jpg

Watched Season 4... It was ok. Wasn't a huge fan of the episode structure but it was good to see these guys again.

Interesting little doc on familiar extras in movies and TV... Fun for pop culture fans.

INCREDIBLY interesting riches-to-rags story. HIGHLY recommended. Seriously.

Always wanted to go through this - And now I am. Lots of fun.

hammerfan 06-06-2013 08:30 AM

I added That Guy...Who Was in That Thing and The Queen of Versailles. I'll let you know my thoughts.

The first one sounds very interesting! When I was watching Game of Thrones, I kept thinking "I know that guy who's playing Walder Frey". Looked it up on imdb.com and, sure enough - he was Mr. Filch in the Harry Potter movies!

It's so weird that you said that because i actually watched a Harry Potter movie last night and sat up in bed and was like "Walder Frey!" and pointed at Filch. My girlfriend thought i was nuts

Sculpt 06-06-2013 02:13 PM

I just saw That Guy a few days ago. Very good doc, especially if you want a peek into the lives of todays character actors. And they are apart of the successful actors...

John Dies at the End is fantastic, for anyone who hasn't seen it. It's kind of a Bogus Journey meets, Evil Dead 2, meets the Matrix.

*** Game of Thrones spoilers ***
Man, after last week's Game of Thrones, I really hate Walder Frey. I'm only halfway through Storm of Swords and I didn't see that coming.

fortunato 06-07-2013 08:35 AM

New Luther trailer coming out today. Definitely can't wait for season 3. Hopefully it'll be on Netflix straightaway.

Giganticface 06-08-2013 01:08 PM

I think Antibodies expires tomorrow so I'm hoping I get a chance to watch it tonight.

metternich1815 06-13-2013 07:12 PM

Unfortunately, Netflix just took off a pretty good number of really good horror movies.

Yes, I'm looking forward to more Luther too. Compelling show.

Antibodies is gone. I missed it. = (

But enjoy John Dies at the End if you haven't seen it.

hammerfan 06-24-2013 10:38 AM

They have The Avengers on instant view!

CreedNoir 06-25-2013 04:59 PM

So I was cruising around Netflix looking for the latest or at least worst Horror movie I could get my hands on. Interesting enough I stopped at Human Centipede 2. Yes, it's available on Netflix as instant view. I never saw the first Human Centipede, so I thought "why not" and fired up the ol' web browser and began watching.

I'd rather not give away anything to the movie if you haven't seen except that I found it more funny than horrific.

"Shut up, crime!"

I'm sold.

ChronoGrl 06-27-2013 10:31 AM

:D

Let me know what you think - It's definitely on the darker side of dark comedy... I really liked it, though.

Ferox13 06-27-2013 10:42 AM

Super was great - way darker than I expected. Defendor with Woody Harrelson is similar but not as good. There are some good docs out there about real life 'super heros'..

I highly recommend it. At first I thought, "Oh lord, another found footage movie". But, it's excellent!
