I actually really like Shallow Ground. And I can't consider Severed: Forest of the Dead OR Creep among the worst I have seen (though Creep did annoy me a little, it had a couple of good scenes). But since I seem to actually seek out bad movies (and enjoy a lot of them, I mean they are HILARIOUS), I often find other people's answers odd when it comes to this question ....:p

And Severed really impressed me by exceeding my expectations. I guess it's all in what you're expecting...

Yeah, that's definitely true.

With Creep I thought that it could have been so much better. There were times that it seemed to be trying to outdo Hills Have Eyes (the operating table scene) and I honestly couldn't get past the fact that I just didn't believe that she would get stuck in the subway system like that.

Also - The characters were more caricatures (2-d rich bitch, 2-d gross coke-head, 2-d black guy, 2-d homeless people) than actual characters. There was no one that I cared about and wished he had snuffed them all. Not to mention, I didn't find the Big Bad to be actually threatening.

I'm glad I brought up Shallow Ground because I was wondering if and why people liked it. It just felt like a cheap production that didn't really go anywhere. But I agree with Des - It's all in what you expect. I didn't know that Shallow Ground or Severed were going to be low-budget film school projects, so I was disappointed when I found out that they were.

Boogeyman was so rediculous, pure crap, and I like some crappy movies. Donnie Darko was a waste of time too but the rabbit was cool looking.

even if you didnt like or understand the story - the acting was good and the production values were just fine.


mentioning it in a worst movie thread doesnt make sense unless you've only seen 3 movies and the other 2 were citizen kane and slingblade.

I haven't seen Slingblade, but if those were the only three movies that I'd seen...I still wouldn't post Donnie Darko in this thread. :o

I really did not mind Dony Darko i just did not understand the story to much.

I was wondering why do people hate the Leprechaun movies so much.

I like them.

For big budget: Ultraviolet.

Complete crap movie. The plot was ridiculous and cliched. The acting was pretty much non-existant. There were only two things going for it: Milla and the special effects. Now of course Milla is hot and that the sole reason she's there because she can't really act. The special effects were pretty cool until you thought about them. For example: the bad guys' armor. It's body armor that shatters like glass/ice when hit with a stick. Sure, it looks cool as hell in slow motion, but I can only suspend my disbelief so far and shattering body armor is beyond my abilities.

For low budget: Dead and Deader.

The cover looked alright and hell, it's zombies! I didn't really note that it was Dean Cain starring otherwise I would have passed on it. I think I made it about 15 minutes at most into the movie before shutting it off. I actually made it all the way through House of the Dead so that should give at least some idea of the "quality" of Dead and Deader.

Donny Darko. Good movie, but I think it was given more credit as a movie because of it's soundtrack. It's a great soundtrack. Very nostalgic for many people and the timing of certain songs is just amazing. I think too many people also tried to find some deeper meaning in the movie. It's a pretty basic sci-fi kind of movie. I really didn't think it was the intense philosophical movie that many people tried to make it out to be. For some you would think the movie was like the second coming of Christ or something. People actually went on and on about how it changed their lives. Yeah... Ok...

i never heard anyone say that - ever ..

but i do know how a movie can change the way you look at other films.

if until DD your standard fare was run of the mill paint by numbers teen flicks ..then Donnie Darko would be extremely fresh and inspirational.

for the most part i only had exposure to mainstream films my whole life - until i came to Toronto and saw Jesus of Montreal at an art house cinema.

i was seeing something totally new for the 1st time ever and it blew my mind.
i had no ideas movies could make you think and entertain you at the same time until that point.


so yeah - i understand how a single film can be extremely important to people - especially if you consider what their history with film might have been until that point.
