i totally disagree. the first was awful followed by more of the same. i think the sequal was consistent with the quality of the first one in that it lacked any quality.

I can stomach the first one......the sequel made me puke!

I think Exorcist 2 may be the worst sequel to a great film ever made.
Pumpkinhead 2 is horrid. And I loved the first one.
Jaws 4 is so bad, its just hilarious.

2nd that......

the exorcist is one of the few franchises where the original is followed by a really poor sequal then that's followed by a great sequal. its the only movie that comes close to the top in both the best sequal/worst sequal categories. if the previous two hadn't existed part3 would be thought of as a great.

Exorcist 3 (direct sequel) was brilliant!

The scene where the guy shoots out from nowhere after the nurse still makes me jump out of my skin, although I know whats going to happen.

It's darn spooky in places!

That still makes me jump even though I know its comming. I always just time it a little wrong. Still gets me.
