300:RISE OF AN EMPIRE (2014). Pretty good sequel to the original film, although it really overdoes the slo-mo/blood splashing...probably though what real hand to hand combat would be like. A few extra points for having "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath play on the end credits. ***

A group of six adolescents in a youth facility suddenly discovers 'freedom' when they realize that everyone who should be taking care of them has disappeared and then they leave the facility and heads to town looking for supplies but things take an unexpectedly horrific twist when any adult they encounter tries to kill them.

Now, a movie with a plot like that where a group of youngsters trying to survive against the adults who are just acting like rampaging zombies, I expected it at least to be a fun & exciting flick like The Children or Eden Lake (just switching the per-adolescent monsters to adults). But the movie just losses it all at the last act where it strangely becomes dull, slow and tries to be a more serious & pretentious flick all of a sudden.

A case where the idea behind the story was much better than the actual movie. It was the evil kids concept turned upside down.

Doesn't help that you couldn't give a fuck about any of the kids, even tho you get a long boring build-up before the horror takes place.

But at least it wasn't found footage. ::roll eyes::

"The Boy" 6/10

Watched the first half of the movie with the back of my neck, not feeling the need to turn around a single time. That's never a good sign.

Meh..

The Boy (2016)

Loved its old school horror flavor, particularly the location, atmosphere & the tone reminded me of 60s or 70s style of genre film making. The creepy doll parts were nicely done, at least a way better accomplishment than cheap Annabelle. The only disappointment comes with the 'twist' at the end, that kinda gave it a mediocre look.

Unfriended (2015).

Good film, surprisingly unsettling. I like innovative horror. I can see why many pan Unfriended: if you're not a computer-savvy person you'll be quickly confused. Definitely not your grandparents' horror.

The premise sounded dull, but I do admit if someone made a half-decent film about kids summoning spirits or demons through their 2400/4800 baud modems I'd probably go see it.
